Mia
It was just some hours before when I would be going back home. I was perfectly fine now but I was told that I had to be home every week or at the most, every two weeks if I was busy so I could avoid a repeat of what had happened.
Mum would like this the most. I sighed. My life had never been the same since I had met the triplets.
I didn’t have much to pack since I hadn’t planned to be home and had only stayed for a day. Albert had sent the driver on an errand and I was waiting for him to be back so he could drive me back home.
I heard a gentle knock on the door and looked up in surprise as Quinn came in. It was really going to take me some time to get used to how polite my brothers – my future partners – were turning out to be.
“Good afternoon, Mia.”
“Good afternoon.”
“Can I sit?”
I nodded. “Of course.” This was strange. I wouldn’t have believed it if it hadn’t happened to me. Quinn would have sat down and given me a cold look if I rebuked him for acting as if my room was his.
“How do you feel now?”
“I’m fine.” I replied. “How do you feel?”
I had heard that he would have felt the pain more as he was a werewolf and the one who had done the marking. I had only thought that it was their senses that were enhanced. I was shocked and felt pity for them when I had heard that emotions, especially pain, were also heightened for them.
He nodded, a slight glow of a smile appearing in his eyes. “I’m fine.”
I looked at him, trying to see if he was telling the truth. I shrugged, noting that he looked better. It could be the werewolf gene in him but he didn’t look like someone who had just been sick.
I knew the same couldn’t be said for me. It was obvious that I had been sick. I groaned, realizing that I was going to have to endure my colleagues asking if I was fine all day tomorrow.
I wished I had good genes like the werewolves and had the ability to heal as fast as they could. I really didn’t like it when others see me in my weak state. I wondered if I was going to have the ability to heal as quickly as they could if I got mated to them and became the Luna.
What was I thinking? I felt like slapping myself on the forehead.
“What are you thinking of?”
“Uhn!” I muttered, shocked at his question. Had he been reading my mind?
I didn’t know that they could read minds as well. That would be a disaster if they could. I didn’t want them to know that I didn’t dislike them as I pretended to.
Good, Mia. I mocked myself. From hate to dislike, I might as well confess my love for them now. I rolled my eyes in sarcasm at myself.
“You are blushing.” He explained. “I couldn’t help asking what you are thinking of.”
Oh! That was it. I didn’t know I was blushing. I placed my hands on my cheeks and removed them when his lips turned down in mirth. He was holding himself back from laughing at me.
I chuckled. “I didn’t know I was blushing.” It was a relief to be assured that they couldn’t read minds.
He chuckled. “It was a cute sight.”
This time, I felt my face flaming up and held my hands against my cheeks. It was still strange to me that we were together in my room just talking and not thinking of tearing each other apart. I must confess that it felt good.
“I’m sorry.” He said.
I blinked at him and shook my head. “For making me blush. Oh! Don’t be.” He didn’t have to ruin the moment by acting guilty.
He shook his head. “No, not that. I am sorry for making you come when you would rather not.”
I could see the guilt in his eyes and felt uncomfortable.
“It wasn’t really your fault that I felt sick. It is not like you wanted me to be.” I said, trying to play it cool.
He snorted. “I know that isn’t how you feel, Mia. You don’t have to pretend. We both know that you wouldn’t have been sick if I hadn’t marked you. I’m sorry about that. I’m sorry for dragging you into our world without your consent.”
I stared at him in surprise, holding my breath. Crazy things had been happening this weekend. I couldn’t have ever thought that Quinn would apologize. I knew how much that had cost him and wasn’t going to be a bitch about it.
“I …” I didn’t know what to say. What would be the best response in a situation like this?
He nodded and continued. It seemed like he had everything scripted in his brain and couldn’t wait to get it all out and let go of his burdens. He didn’t seem like he had expected my response.
Damn it, Mia. You have to say something. I hissed at myself.
“I know it sounds like an excuse but I couldn’t control myself then. I had no idea I had marked you until it was done. I shouldn’t have kissed you. I’m sorry, I know you don’t want this and I just made your life harder.”
“I kissed you back.”
I gasped as the words flew out of my mouth. I didn’t want him to bear the burden of guilt alone but I could have said something else other than that.
He stared at me, shocked as well at my words. We both stared at each other, the air thick with dense silence. It was getting awkward and I knew I had to say something to break the ice.
“You don’t have to act like it was all your fault. I kissed you back. You wouldn’t have gone further if I hadn’t encouraged you.”
He gulped, blinking at me. “You weren’t in your right mind. You had just escaped an attack and were shaken. I should have known better and stepped away. It is still my fault.”
I swallowed, needing strength to force the next words out of my mouth. “What if I told you that I knew what I was doing? What if I told you that I wanted you that night?”
His mouth fell open. He made a move to hold me and quickly stopped himself. “Mia,” he breathed.
“So stop beating yourself up too much. This was as much my mistake as it was yours.”
He winced. “Do you know I want you?”
“I know.”
“Do you know my brothers want you?”
I winced. “I know.”
He sighed. “I would really love to have you for myself but what we want is different from what we have to do most times. I can’t claim a mate alone, my brothers have to be mated to her as well.”
“That’s fucked up.”
He chuckled. “I know but that is how it is.”
I sighed, having nothing to say to that. It had to be their tradition and not the boys’ strange desires. I knew Albert wouldn’t have stood for it if it was the latter.
“Do you like me, Mia? Or any of my brothers?”
I couldn’t reply. He sighed. “I have marked you as my mate. That means I like you and my brothers do as well. I wouldn’t have felt the urge to mark you if we didn’t want you.”
I gulped. What was a girl meant to say to that?
He continued. “You have to know how you feel about me, Mia. You said you kissed me back because you wanted me. You have to admit to yourself how you feel and I urge you to try to be like my brothers as well. This has already happened. We don’t have to keep pretending like it never did and suffering for it. Let’s try our best to make it work out.”
He stood up when he was done. He turned when he got to the door and smiled at me. “See you next weekend.”
He said and walked away, leaving me thinking of what he had said.
