Mia
I almost fell as I was rushing out to the garage, afraid that they had left me behind. I had tried to get ready within that ten minute time frame that he had given me but it had been impossible.
It wasn’t like I was trying to dress cute for them but I had my pride and image to save. Regardless of what they said or would think, I couldn’t just dress up anyhow because I didn’t want my brothers to think that I was trying to be enticing to them.
I didn’t know where they were going and I didn’t want to look embarrassed. What if I meet someone that I knew and I was dressed as if I had been robbed of all the clothes that I had?
I would be too embarrassed to face the public for days. Moreover, I knew those hooligans that called themselves my brothers wouldn’t hesitate to laugh at me if anything embarrassing happened to me.
It was better to avoid situations that would bring tears to my eyes after the night. I had already told them that I would be going out with them and despite their impatience, I knew that they wouldn’t leave me behind.
It was easier to apologize to them for wasting their time than to hate myself afterwards for not taking care of myself before leaving the house.
I came to a standstill, my mouth opened wide with shock as I got to the car and couldn’t see anyone, not even one of them. I didn’t even know what I felt at that moment. I couldn’t pinpoint it but I knew it was more than annoyance. It was a strange mixture of annoyance, rage, disbelief, shock and slight amusement.
They had given me an impossible amount of time to get ready but they weren’t ready themselves. I had been freaking out, worrying and rushing that I had wasted their time and almost fell in my haste but they were nowhere to be found.
I could have taken my time if I knew this was what they were going to do. I was assured that they hadn’t gone out and left me behind because I was standing right by their car. I wondered if I should remind them that it was rude for gentlemen to keep a lady waiting but I doubted that they knew of that in the first place. Those men were rude breeds and being a gentleman was never going to be found in the manual of life that they lived by.
I glanced at the screen of my phone and realized that I had been standing at the car for five minutes and they weren’t here yet. If not that I was scared to stay at home alone, I would have called their bluff and march straight to my bedroom in anger.
I sighed as I realized that I was going to have to do what I didn’t like to do, what I didn’t think I was ever going to do. I was going to have to call them to tell them that I was here and ask them to hurry up.
I didn’t want to call them at all but I didn’t have a choice.
I would call John. They all lacked manners but he still had some sense more than the others.
He picked the phone on the second ring and my face changed into stone as I heard the voice that boomed into my ear. Why were they always together? Instead of John to speak, it was Jack’s voice that I heard.
I had thought that they would each be in their room getting ready and would talk to John in a civil way. He would be the one to talk to his brothers. What a fine mess of things I had made by calling John. I should have just waited for them at the car but I didn’t think that I had that level of patience left in me.
It was possible that they were taking their time because they assumed that I was not yet done. I would be wasting my time if I didn’t call them to tell them that I was waiting for them.
“Hello, sister.” Jack drawled as soon as he picked up the car. “What a wonderful surprise to hear from you.”
I snorted while rolling my eyes to my satisfaction as I knew that he couldn’t see me. “Oh! Quit the drama, Jack. Where are you guys?”
“Are you at the car already?”
“Yes. Got there and didn’t find you. Why did you make me rush when you knew you weren’t going to be ready on time?” I hissed, making sure he knew how angry I was.
“Sorry for making you wait, Mia. We would be outside soon.” John apologized.
I rolled my eyes. Of course, I should have known that the phone would be on speaker. The boys always did everything together. It would be strange if they weren’t listening to me at the same time.
That was better for them than having one of them to repeat what I had said to the others. What was I expecting? They were all in the same room and it was likely I would have done the same if I had sisters and I had a call from someone I knew wanted to speak to all of us.
I wasn’t surprised that they were all listening just as I wasn’t surprised that it was John who apologized on their behalf. I already knew that he was the one with manners among the three of them.
“Have you been waiting for us for a long time?” John asked.
“Not at all.” I was going to die first before admitting to them that I had rushed myself into getting ready. They were going to tease me about that for ages, saying that I was eager to be out with them.
I would have a long week explaining to them that I was more eager to be out of the house than with them.
“Okay. We would be out soon.” John assured me.
“Be out in two minutes.” I snapped at them and ended the call but not before I heard John and Jack chuckle.
I frowned as I dropped my phone into my purse. I hadn’t heard Quinn’s voice and wondered where he was. I doubted that he wasn’t with them. It wasn’t likely that his two brothers were together and he was alone.
That could only mean one thing. He didn’t want to speak to me. I felt annoyed at that and more annoyed at myself, wondering why I felt bad that he didn’t want to speak to me. It wasn’t like I cared about him. What do I need his voice for and why would I be obsessed about it?
They were out in a minute and I didn’t have to make a wild guess to know that they had zoomed to the car with their supernatural speed. From the way they looked, I realized that they had been done with their dressing for a while before I called and intentionally weren’t at the car.
I fumed as I stared at them. “You bastards.”
Jack laughed, moving closer to me. “Language, sister. Remember you are a lady.” He mocked me, throwing back my words few minutes ago into my face.
I cringed at his audacity. I wasn’t going to regret calling myself a lady in their presence no matter how much they annoyed me.
Quinn didn’t even look at me. He moved towards the car and hopped into the driver’s seat. The brothers followed his lead and moved to the back seat. I wasn’t going to sit with Jack and John even if I got paid a million dollars to do so. I slid into the passenger seat beside Quinn even though he was acting like I didn’t exist.
I wondered what had crawled up his ass within the few minutes that we were apart. He had been the one to invite me so it was a bit unsettling that he was giving me an attitude.
I ignored him as well as I fixed the seat belt. Sitting with him as quiet as he was was still better than being with his louder brother at the back seat.
“You dolled yourself up, Mia.” Jack leaned forward and teased me as he stared at my face.
I sighed, debating getting out of the car and risking being alone at home.
“Leave her alone, Jack.” John scolded him. “You are not winning any point with her by teasing her.”
“Shall we?” Quinn asked, looking at me as he started the car.
I nodded, feeling oddly relieved that he had spoken to me. I sighed. I was getting weirder the more I stayed here.
