Mia
I messed up. I shouldn’t have gone with the men on the search for the dark wizard’s items. It had been fruitless. We hadn’t found anything that he had left behind. The only thing that had been found was my newly acquired fear for the night.
The boys wouldn’t stop teasing me about it even though their father had told them to not tease me.
I frowned. I didn’t know how they had found out that I was afraid despite how hard I tried to hide it. Their supernatural eyes were really working.
We all met in Albert’s study the next day. It was when we left there that the boys started teasing me and I knew that they had known of my fear.
“What is your plan for today?” Jack asked as I was leaving.
I turned to look at them with my eyebrows arched up. What were they up to again? I didn’t trust them. I was starting to but I didn’t trust them fully.
“Why?”
“You heard dad say he is taking your mum out on date to make up for their honeymoon that was cut short. You want to be home alone?”
“Are you going out?”
“Does it sound like we are staying at home?”
I rolled my eyes and snorted at him. He could have simply answered me instead of being sarcastic.
John smiled at me. “We are going out to town, Mia. Would you like to come with us?”
“You don’t have much time to think about it.” Quinn grumbled, staring at my face. “You either tell us you are going or you are not.”
I frowned, wondering why he was excessively grumpy this morning. Had he been annoyed that we couldn’t find the dark wizard? We all were. He didn’t have to act as if he was the only one who was affected by the events. I was the one who was having the gruesome nightmares, I should be the one acting out.
I was going to think about the offer but with the way Quinn looked angry, he could call off the invitation and I was going to regret it. I didn’t think that I was comfortable with staying at home alone. I was afraid that something bad might happen to me and I doubted that I had enough strength in me to ward it off.
I might not want the brothers around me but I couldn’t deny that I needed them, especially during this phase. They were stronger than I was and would be able to deal with the dark wizard if he showed up or anyone else who might be as dangerous as he was.
If they weren’t staying at home, who was I to pretend to be the super hero that I wasn’t and stay home alone?
I didn’t have much time just as Quinn had said and it annoyed me to admit that he was right. It would have been better if I could take my time and act as if it was my choice instead of feeling like I had no choice in this.
“Well? What do you say?” Quinn asked me, his tone telling me that he had no time to waste and was impatient to get out.
I rolled my eyes at him. “I will be outside soon. Let me get changed.” I said, moving away to my bedroom.
“You have ten minutes.” He yelled at me.
I stopped in my tracks and turned to look at him. “Have you seen a lady dress in ten minutes?”
He scoffed at me. “Are you a lady? I don’t think you are one.”
Jack laughed. “She might want to doll herself up for us, brother. Let her take her time.”
I snorted at Jack. “Keep on dreaming if you think I would doll myself up for you.”
“You are also dreaming if you think that I would allow you to dress up nicely and have other men swarming around you.”
I sighed and shook my head as I walked away from them. They were impossible. I knew they were trying their best to be nice to me but it was hard for them to break out of their old habits. I wondered if they knew that they were getting more rude the more I knew of them.
Could it be the dark wizard that was rubbing off on them? I waved off the bland excuse. I wasn’t going to make excuses for them. We were all affected by the presence of the dark wizard and Albert despite how stressed out he was about the manners hadn’t lost his manners.
It was just the boys that were rude.
“You have ten minutes. Meet us at the car.” Quinn yelled at me again as if I hadn’t heard him that time, just to remind me that he hadn’t changed his mind.
I snorted in annoyance. What a perfect example of the opposite of a gentleman.
Whatever. I waved my hand back at him without a word to show him as well that I didn’t care about his time limit.
