It was them. I knew it. I couldn’t have forgotten those faces. I couldn’t have failed to recognize them. Asides seeing them in my dreams every night through the master’s projections, I had their image vividly seared in my head.
I couldn’t forget that night. I didn’t think that I ever could. I was there when my master had been captured by those bastards and their father and locked away in a place where no one knew about.
Everyone commended them for locking away the dark wizard, everyone but me. I missed him. I ached to see him again and I couldn’t forget about him though I didn’t try at all to.
How could I want to forget him? I remembered that day like it was yesterday and hissed. I had been too late. I had been too late to save my master. I had been practising some spells with him before he sent me on errands. By the time I came back that day, the alpha of the pack master hated had come for him and won over him in a battle.
The only thing I saw as I got back to the venue was a car driving master away at an alarming speed and all I could hear asides from my loud wails was master’s voice echoing in my head to find him and set him free.
That had been my mission for the past twenty years but it had always proven to be futile.
I scowled as I stared at the boys talking to my roommate and felt my old heart swell up with hatred.
If not for their father who had captured my master over a silly revenge, I would have been surging with powers by now. I would have been a powerful witch by now. I wouldn’t be someone who knew only basic spells and what could only make her look younger than she was.
I had looked all around for my master but I didn’t find him. I had gone to where the wolves used to stay but I hadn’t found him. I didn’t even sense his presence. I had spent time and resources on research, looking for where the werewolves could hold a sorceress in captivity but I had come across nothing.
I had found some prisoners but they weren’t my master and I didn’t care about them. They had begged me to set them free but I hadn’t cared. I didn’t need them and so I hadn’t bothered with them.
I had kept on looking for the dark wizard till I got frustrated with searching. It was as if those that took him had dropped off the face of the earth. Maybe they had. Maybe they hadn’t but I didn’t know.
Two decades were surely a long time to keep on searching for a single person and not give up hope. I wasn’t sure that I was even going to recognize him when I finally found him. His image was fading in my mind and he could change his appearance which was why I was grateful for his magic that was pulsing in me. I could feel him wherever he was and that was what I was depending on to find him.
As I hadn’t learned enough of the spells that were needed for me to boast and call myself a witch, I hadn’t bothered to practice. It wasn’t until I could feel myself slowly losing my connection with the earth and losing my magic that I freaked out.
I couldn’t lose my magic. That was going to be a disaster. I couldn’t find my master if I lost my barely existing magical powers.
I had wondered what to do to get back my powers before I decided to try out the anti-aging spell. I was only in my early forties but someone had been rude enough to call me an old woman.
I had felt stung by the insult and had cried my eyes out before a mirror. I couldn’t even get mad at the person because they weren’t wrong. I was in my early forties but I had looked like a sixty-year-old woman.
The strain of jumping all around cities and looking for my enslaved master had finally caught up to me. I had spent my youth looking for him and hadn’t had the time to be a normal youth.
I had been so nervous when I had tried out the anti-aging spell, afraid that something was going to go wrong and I had been so happy when I was done with it and I looked like I was in my early twenties.
I loved my new look and had kept on with the practice, because I didn’t want to lose my touch with my newly found powers and also because I loved my new look.
Tired of jumping all around looking for a person I didn’t know where he was, I had decided to stay still at a place and find a life for myself – a life I had given up on when I was looking for the dark wizard.
I wished to find him and tell him of the sacrifice I had made for him. It wasn’t until recently that I had gotten a job with my new face and started living a life of normalcy.
I used to look at Mia at times and wondered what her reaction would be if she knew that I was a forty-year-old woman in the body of a twenty-year-old lady. I thought of my master who could assume the form of different gender and couldn’t stop imagining how it would be like to have that power for myself.
I would like to find him as soon as possible so that he could teach me all that he has to. That bastard. I hoped he didn’t think I gave up on him and gave me stress when I finally set him free.
I had given up hope of ever seeing my master again until I met Mia.
Mia, was the unsuspecting roommate who had brought joy and hope to my life. I was glad that I had met her, became friends with her and insisted that we became roommates when the company decided to lodge us all in a house for the incoming project.
Who knew that I would find my master through her? A human female. Life could truly be funny at times.
I had recognized the boys immediately I saw them come in with Mia that I wanted to jump and dance at that instant if not they all would wonder if I was right in the head.
They were the spitting images of their father that I would have to be blind to not recognize them. I knew that I had found my master. I had been wondering all along where they were but now, I was going to find that out.
I just needed to find out where they lived and I was going to find master. I didn’t know how Mia was actually connected to the boys but I knew that they cared about her. They were worried about her and would do anything for her sake.
She was the one I was going to use to set my master free from their clutches. I just needed to play my games right.
I wondered if she knew what they were. I wondered if she knew where my master was in the house but she didn’t act like she knew the guys’ secrets and I was convinced that she had no idea of their dark world.
She was a young girl saddled with brothers that she didn’t want.
I looked at her on her bed, wondering how I was going to ask what I needed of her without making her feel suspicious. I shrugged off my fear, it wasn’t as if she was going to suspect that I was a witch from just a question.
“Mia, are you going home this weekend?” I asked her.
She looked up from the book she was reading and sighed. “It seems like it. My brothers said they would come to get me away from here if I refused to come here. I have no choice but to go home this weekend if I don’t want a scene.”
“You don’t want to go home?”
“I don’t want to stay alone with my brothers.” She pouted. “They are going to drive me crazy.”
I chuckled. “Should I go with you? That is if you don’t mind. I don’t have anything planned for this weekend.”
Her eyes brightened up and I almost felt guilty for deceiving her. “Really? Will you?”
“Yeah.” I nodded, my face smiling while I was shouting in my head that she should say yes to my offer.
