It was our parents’ wedding. Finally, they had tied the knot and we were officially a family. I was their sister on paper. I was family and the triplets were determined to make me think of them as that.
It was a small ceremony filled with a few trusted people from both ends. Some of my mother’s friends were invited and I wondered if Albert’s guests were humans or werewolves. I rubbed at my temples, eager to get a drink but I wasn’t going to do that. It was my mother’s day and I wasn’t going to make a fool of myself and embarrass her.
What was my business with wondering if his guests were werewolves or not? As far as I was concerned, they weren’t going to harm me. The werewolves I knew and had been living with for months hadn’t hurt me so I didn’t think I have reason to worry about the new werewolves.
They weren’t going to hurt me if they were anything like Albert. I knew he was a responsible person and wouldn’t have moved with irresponsible people, human or werewolf. He wouldn’t have even invited them to his wedding if they posed a risk to his wife, daughter and everyone else present.
As long as they were all guests of my mum and Albert’s, I didn’t think I had anything to fear.
The triplets had invited few of their friends but they didn’t seem harmful to me. They were mostly men that they were in the same unit with and I could tell from afar that they were human. Asides that, they all treated me with respect when I got introduced to them as their sister.
I felt comfortable with their friends in ways that I didn’t with the triplets. I talked and laughed with the men from the Navy that I could sense that the triplets were angry at how free I was with them. I glanced in their direction and saw one of them give me an angry look that I almost burst out laughing.
That almost cheered me up. Maybe I would feel less bored than I was at the moment if any of my friends were here. I had thought of inviting Anna but it was her boyfriend’s birthday and she had gone on a trip with him. I didn’t have much friends that I could have invited and I didn’t think of inviting Sasha as I felt she didn’t know my mum and might not want to come.
I looked around the house where the party was taking place and sighed. Everything was going on well and everyone was having fun but I just couldn’t bring myself to relax.
I wondered what that was for a while before I found the answer. We were on the fields and I was racked with the memory of the last time I was on it. After that night with the dark wizard, I hadn’t been on the grounds of the house. I had left the next day after it and when I got back after it, I was drunk and in Jack’s arms.
I was back at the house after that and I had been in my bedroom since I came back. This would be my first prolonged stay on the field after I was in the cave with the dark wizard.
I shuddered at the reminder of the evil sorceress who had almost killed me and wondered if she knew that we were having a party here. We weren’t being loud as it was a subtle ceremony but there was a change in the atmosphere, unlike how the house used to be when there wasn’t anything going on.
If she was a powerful sorceress as the triplets had said, she would have noticed that something was going on here.
I wished that I could go into the cave without her seeing me and know what was going on in her mind. I felt bad about not telling my mum that a sorceress was living in the house with us.
I looked at my mum where she was seated with Albert at the stage in her adorable bridal gown, her eyes filled with love and shining with smiles as she stared at her husband and winced.
I wanted to tell her what she had gotten married to but the timing was wrong. I couldn’t have told her of what had happened before the wedding. I would cause a commotion and it would seem like I didn’t want her to marry Albert.
I couldn’t tell her right now that she just got married. I would be ruining her day and her honeymoon phase. I decided to wait till after she was back on her honeymoon and prayed that she didn’t freak out when I told her.
I could do this. I would find a way to tell her in a wise way that wouldn’t make her freak out. It wasn’t fair that there was danger living in the house with us and my mum was the only one who didn’t know anything of it. She wouldn’t even know how to protect herself if she had to.
I shivered, rubbing my hands all over my arms, wishing I had worn something warmer other than the sleeveless blue gown that I had on. I wondered why I had decided to wear that, of all the gowns that I had.
It was a warm night but the fear of the grounds was sending chills to me. I wished the party would be over soon so I could retire to my room. I had this insane fear that the dark wizard was going to creep up on all of us when it was dark and avenge her twenty-year-old grudge on us.
I knew it was crazy as the wizard was safely locked up in the cave but that was my fear and it was keeping me from enjoying the party.
My mum glanced in my direction and I blanked out my thoughts, smiling at her for her benefit. That was what I had been doing since the ceremony started. I knew mum could dash over to my side if she noticed that something was amiss with me and I didn’t want to trouble her.
The men I was talking with had left to socialize with others and I was left alone with the thoughts in my head, thoughts which were determined to drive me crazy.
I jumped as I felt a suit jacket on my body and looked up to see John smiling at me.
“I noticed from afar that you were shaking.” He explained as he sat beside me.
“Thanks.” I said, pulling the cloth over my skin. I hadn’t even realized that I was still rubbing at my skin.
“I thought that you don’t feel comfortable at all with any male.”
I rolled my eyes. I knew that this conversation was going to come up. I knew that they were going to be angry at how quickly I had warmed up to their friends and was laughing with them when I didn’t do that with them.
I smiled at myself for being naughty, realizing that I had done that intentionally to get them riled up.
I didn’t have anything to say and shrugged. His eyes narrowed and he began to nag me about how weird I was for getting used to people I wasn’t going to see anytime soon and finding it hard to warm up to people I was going to be with for a long time.
I wasn’t really listening to John’s grumbling but I was glad that he was chatting away by my side. I needed something to get my mind off the fear of the dark wizard and John was the perfect opportunity.
