Flynn didn’t care at all about the eight billion, nor did he want to know anything about Darren. He scoffed and said, “That eight billion dollars must have been an investment Layla secured for her.”
Acebegron Clear Relief had just gone bankrupt, and Lilia received an eighty-billion-dollar investment from Achela. It couldn’t have been done with just the Hussain family’s influence. It must have been Layla who made it happen.
“That’s right, our boss said it was Layla who made the call,” Julianne nodded and said to Flynn, “You’ve seen Layla’s capabilities yourself. One phone call and Darren agreed to the collaboration. It shows how powerful her connections are.”
“As Harriet’s friend, let me give you some advice: you can’t win this business war!”
Flynn laughed at her words and shook his head, “A mere eighty billion dollars? Is that Layla’s limit? I guess I overestimated her!”
A mere eighty billion dollars? Nearly five hundred billion in investments, and he described it as “mere”? His words even carried a hint of mockery towards Layla?
Even the richest man in Shipmeda State wouldn’t dare speak like that! Julianne shook her head, convinced that Energence Pharmaceuticals couldn’t win. Without even the courage to face their opponent, how could they talk about victory?
“I know some men look down on women, but it’s a fact that Layla has made many powerful men bow their heads. No amount of mockery or disdain can change that,” Julianne said coldly, glancing at Flynn.
Flynn was taken aback for a moment and then smiled wryly, “You misunderstand me. I’m not a chauvinist; I’m just stating the facts.”
After saying this, he ignored Julianne and removed the silver needles from Stephanie’s hand, saying to her, “I’ve used acupuncture to clear your meridians. Follow the prescription for a month, and you’ll be cured.”
“Take care,” he said before turning to leave the private room.
Harriet and the others stood up to see him off. After Flynn went downstairs, Julianne couldn’t help but say, “Harriet, your Flynn is so arrogant! He doesn’t even take Layla seriously.”
Harriet shook her head, “He’s not arrogant; he might actually have the capability to look down on Layla. I believe in him!”
“Harriet, this isn’t a joke. It involves hundreds of billions of dollars and the fate of thousands of workers. You’d better persuade…” Julianne tried to continue persuading her, but Stephanie interrupted, pinching Harriet’s slightly flushed cheek.
“Julianne, can’t you see? Harriet has a crush! There’s no point in persuading her; she already takes Flynn’s words as gospel!”
Harriet gently pushed Stephanie’s hand away and shyly lowered her head, “Stephanie, what nonsense are you talking about? That’s not true!”
“Haha… It’s just us here; why are you still shy?” Stephanie teased. “If you like him, just go for it! He’s divorced now; go confess your feelings!” she encouraged.
Hearing this, Harriet’s smile faded, and a trace of gloom appeared in her eyes. “The women around Flynn are too outstanding, like phoenixes soaring in the sky. And I’m just a sparrow; I’ve never dared to hope for such a thing…”
After leaving Spring Blossom Tower, Flynn made a call to Demon Island Prison.
“King of the Underworld,” Wardenry greeted respectfully.
“Did you receive everything?”
“Yes! It arrived yesterday. According to your instructions, we’ve distributed all the magazines. The razors, silk blankets, and mini hot pots are given out based on behavior.”
Flynn nodded, “Good. Has Smiley Bear been behaving lately?”
“Since your last call, he’s been much more obedient.”
“Put him on; I need to talk to him.” Flynn started his car as he spoke.
After driving for a while in his Lamborghini, Gulowski’s voice came through on the other end of the line.
“Boss, I’ve been good lately; I haven’t caused any trouble!”
Flynn got straight to the point, “Your family’s assets haven’t been nationalized yet?”
Gulowski was taken aback and replied, “No way! Who would dare nationalize my enterprises? Not even the president would dare; otherwise, he’d be dead in minutes!”
“The Bushell Natural Gas Group, Northern Petrochemicals, Norris Nickel Mining Conglomerate-all still belong to our great Gurloff Family! My son is overseeing them now. Boss, why do you ask?”
Gulowski wasn’t exaggerating. The Gurloff Family was one of Achela’s top families. They controlled Northreach’s oil and gas industries and had their hands in nearly every sector in Achela. They indeed had the power to destroy anyone but didn’t find it worth the risk.
In Achela, the Gurloff Family was undoubtedly the top financial oligarch.
“I have a profitable project here that requires five hundred billion dollars. Does your family have that much capital?” Flynn asked calmly.
“Boss, just say the word! We’re not short on money. Even if we were, we’d borrow it for you!” Gulowski replied with a grin.
“I’ll notify my son through Wardenry’s phone so he can fly over tomorrow!”
Flynn nodded and said, “Good. From today onwards, you’ll get chicken legs with every meal and a self-heating hot pot daily!”
He wasn’t sure exactly how much money the Gurloff Family had but was confident it would be at least trillions if converted into Ostrad currency. The Gurloff Family was a financial giant controlling various sectors in Achela with three large oil fields and Siberia’s largest natural gas company and steel plant-a true behemoth.
Five hundred billion dollars wasn’t much for them.
“King of the Underworld, I’ve noted your requests. Anything else?” Wardenry asked.
Flynn hesitated for a moment before asking, “How is Kevin doing?”
There was silence on the other end before Wardenry sighed and said, “King of the Underworld, I know Kevin is important to you but his time is almost up; even gods can’t save him.”
A trace of helplessness flashed in Flynn’s eyes as he said, “Do your best to treat him.”
After hanging up the phone, Flynn put aside his worries and drove to an old district building.
Old Mrs. Wilcox and Katie had just finished cleaning up and were taking out the trash.
After exchanging pleasantries with them briefly, Flynn eagerly took an envelope from them.
The envelope was yellowed with age and had “To Wild” written on it.
With trembling hands, Flynn opened it to find two sheets of paper inside with his mother’s bold handwriting on them.
The first sheet read:
“Uncle Wild,
Thank you and your family for taking care of us all these years. If I survive by chance, I will definitely repay your kindness.”
“Unfortunately, I don’t hold any hope for the future; they are too powerful. Even if we deceive everyone successfully we may not escape their pursuit.”
“Let fate decide; if I manage to leave Niarak alive I’ll go to Haralu to find an old friend…”
