The sedan’s driver stopped sadly on the side as the light changed to green.
He nervously called his boss, “Sir, Miss Scott got away in another woman’s car. She was fast, and I lost her…”
Diana wasn’t happy about being followed and showed her displeasure with a rude gesture.
The man hesitated before deciding not to complain and stayed quiet.
“I understand. There’s no need to follow her anymore,” Dave said casually.
“Yes, sir.”
The Porsche continued smoothly down the road.
Diana held onto the steering wheel and asked, “Bianca, that person who was following us seemed to be after you. Who is that? Why were they following you?”
Thinking about Dave, Bianca nervously admitted, “It might be my boyfriend.”
“What?” Diana was so surprised that she slammed on the brakes. Bianca almost flew forward, but her seatbelt kept her in place.
“Bianca, why didn’t you tell me about your boyfriend? Don’t you consider me a friend?” Diana pulled over to the side of the road and looked at her in disbelief.
“I meant to tell you last time, but I’ve been really busy, and it slipped my mind.”
“Last time?” Diana furrowed her brow in thought and then burst out laughing as something clicked. “I knew it! Your boyfriend is the guy in that photo, isn’t he?”
Bianca nodded, confirming Diana’s suspicion.
“But why was he following you?” Diana asked, curious.
Bianca hesitated, biting her lip. “It’s a long story.”
Seeing Bianca’s hesitation, Diana laughed softly. “No worries, we’ve got time. You can tell me piece by piece.”
“What?” Before Bianca could respond, Diana hit the gas and sped off.
Diana drove Bianca to her quiet suburban home, a row house.
As they arrived, Diana tossed the keys on the shoe rack, took Bianca’s hand, and led her into the living room. They removed their shoes and settled on the sofa. “My parents are visiting relatives out of town, so I’m alone. You should stay over tonight. It’s been forever since we had a good chat!”
Relieved, Bianca sat down beside Diana.
Curious about Bianca’s boyfriend, Diana attentively listened as Bianca shared everything about her and Dave.
After finishing her story, Bianca felt a weight lift off her shoulders. It had been a while since she had opened up about her personal life to someone else.
“Bianca, I had no clue you were dealing with all this. You should’ve told me earlier; maybe I could’ve helped or given advice.” Diana looked at Bianca with sympathy and concern.
“As for your boyfriend, even though his stalking was too much, I understand his feelings. It shows how much he cares about you. Maybe he just went about it the wrong way.”
Bianca understood this, but she couldn’t shake off the hurt of feeling mistrusted-first by her father, now by Dave. It left her feeling lost and alone as if the whole world had turned against her.
“But you can’t just let him off the hook. He needs to realize what he did wrong and promise you it won’t happen again,” Diana insisted.
Just then, Bianca’s phone started ringing with Dave’s name on the screen.
Seeing Bianca hesitate, Diana realized who it was. She gently touched Bianca’s arm and encouraged her, “Go ahead, answer it.”
Feeling helpless, Bianca reluctantly picked up the phone but stayed silent.
“Bianca, where are you?”
The sound of Dave’s familiar, soothing voice filled the air. Bianca’s heart softened momentarily, but she quickly composed herself.
“Are you calling me this late because you’re worried I might be with another guy behind your back again?”
There was a brief pause before Dave responded softly, “I’m just worried about your safety being out so late. When do you plan to come back?”
Looking over at Diana, Bianca saw her shaking her head, silently mouthing “no”.
Making her decision, Bianca firmly stated, “I’m staying at my best friend’s place tonight. I’m not coming back.”
Diana gave her an encouraging thumbs-up.
Distressed, Dave replied quietly, “Okay, stay there tonight. I’ll come get you tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow…”
Just as Bianca was about to respond, Diana swiftly took the phone from her. With a raised eyebrow, she addressed the caller, “You’re Mr. Evans, right? I’m Diana, Bianca’s closest friend. Here’s the situation. Bianca isn’t feeling well and wants to stay with me for a while. How long she stays depends on how she feels. She’s been spending a lot of time with you lately, and we haven’t had a chance to catch up in ages. We have a lot to talk about. I hope you understand.”
Dave rubbed his forehead and stayed silent for a long time. Then, in a serious tone, he said, “I get it.”
After hanging up, Diana sat down in front of Bianca with a determined look.
“Bianca, listen carefully. Don’t forgive him until he apologizes and promises not to make the same mistake again. Give him the cold shoulder for a while and make sure he learns from this. Otherwise, you’ll keep suffering in the future!”
Bianca nodded, feeling a bit confused. Dealing with relationship problems was new to her, but she trusted Diana’s advice.
That night, before falling asleep, Bianca held her pillow tightly, imagining it was Dave’s face, which she both admired and resented.
Then she angrily punched the pillow and declared, “You better apologize to me soon, or I won’t speak to you ever again!”
With that, she hugged the pillow tightly and lay down.
Since they started dating, Bianca and Dave always cuddled and slept together. Now, without him, she felt a deep emptiness.
By eight o’clock the next morning, Dave still hadn’t left his neighborhood. Zane, unable to wait any longer, decided to call his boss.
Dave answered the phone wearily, “Come on up.”
As Zane entered the apartment after knocking, he was shocked by what he saw.
The living room was a disaster. The glass from the wine cabinet was broken, wine bottles lay shattered on the floor, and dried wine was everywhere. Dave lay sprawled on the sofa, surrounded by empty beer bottles on the coffee table.
Zane, surprised, asked, “Boss, did things get crazy last night? It looks like a tornado came through here.”
Rubbing his eyes and sitting up, Dave glanced at Zane and chuckled awkwardly. “Crazy? Yeah, you could say things got out of control.”
He got up, wobbling toward the bedroom. The alcohol still affected him, making his steps unsteady. “Get someone to clean up this mess. And reschedule the morning meeting.”
Zane stood there, scratching his head quietly. Seeing Dave’s serious expression and self-deprecating tone, Zane started to wonder. Could his boss have had a big argument with Miss Scott last night? Did they even fight?
He couldn’t believe it. His boss wasn’t known for getting into conflicts with women.
