Mia’s POV
I was tasked with watering the garden when I noticed a car driving into the mansion. With curiosity, I stared at the car and saw Alpha Joshua getting out of the vehicle. “Shit!” I blurted out and hid away. I watched him nod to the greetings of the servants and make his way into the mansion.
I was curious and wondered why he was here, so out of curiosity, I left the garden and arrived at the sitting room. “You are here; get a bottle of water for the guest upstairs.” Aunt Cara said, and I nodded.
I took a tray of water upstairs to Alpha Ricardo’s visitor’s room. I reached the door, knocked, and was asked in.
When I went in, I lowered my head and dropped the water tray on the small center table before them. As I made to leave, Alpha Joshua called me back. We held each other’s gaze, and I could see his eyes were filled with confusion and curiosity, but I kept my mind blank.
“Have we met before?” He asked, and I quickly shook my head, “You have a familiar aura around you that I can’t seem to place it.” He said while I gulped with my head still bowed.
I didn’t want my identity to be revealed, at least not now.
“You can go.” He gestured, and as I went for the door, the words of Alpha Ricardo caught my attention, “I won’t give that blood-sucking demon the body of Mia.” Alpha Ricardo yelled through gritted teeth, but I couldn’t hear further because I had left the room.
While taking the stairs, I realized the person he was referring to was my father. He wanted my body, and goddess knows what he wanted to do with it.
“I need to get back in my body,” I mumbled and met the kitchen assistant at the stairs.
“You! When am I getting my money?” She questioned, gripping me by my left wrist. “Soon.” I responded and got a mockery scoff from her, “Soon?” She asked with raised eyebrows and leaned to my left ear, “Have you agreed to sleep with him?” She whispered, getting me confused, “That’s a wise decision. I’ll go inform him.” She smirked and walked away, leaving me confused.
I returned to the garden, worked on it, and had lunch with the other maids. Some talked to me nicely, while others stared at me disgustingly, making me wonder what I must have done to deserve such hate.
After lunch, I met with Annabelle. “May I ask you a question?” I asked, and she nodded, gesturing me to go on, “Why do you think most of the maids hate me?” I asked, “Don’t tell me you don’t remember?” She asked, sounding shocked, and I shook my head.
I heard her release a heavy sigh before speaking, “The maids who hate you are maids who are interested in Simeon.” She whispered, “Simeon?” I asked to be sure I heard her right.
“Yes, they are all angry at you because it seems Simeon is interested in you, but you never accepted his advances because you believed he would meet his mate someday.” She explained, and a frustrated sigh left my lips.
“Don’t worry about it; you’ll get back your lost memories.” She encouraged me while I nodded.
We went our different ways and indulged ourselves in activities. By 8 pm, I was exhausted, my whole body was burning with aches, and all I wished was a nice sleep.
I was mobbing the kitchen floor when a maid came in and told me Alpha Ricardo needed me in his room. With a relieved sigh, I went to his room, knocked on the door, and entered.
When I got in, I met him seated on the single couch with a glass of wine in his hand. I stared at my body lying on the bed and realized It was the same way I last saw it.
“Who are you?” He questioned, “I’m just a common maid.” I responded with my head bowed.
He remained silent for a moment before speaking again. “What else did she tell you?” he inquired. I hesitated, unsure of what to say. “Don’t be afraid. I want to know more about her. There are many things I need to know ,” he grumbled.
As he stared at my body on the bed, I sensed the pain and regret emanating from him. Despite my growing hatred towards him, I felt heartbroken to see him in such a broken state. For some strange reason, I couldn’t stand it, so I left the room, ignoring any possible consequences.
I walked back to the kitchen, finished my work, and headed to the maid’s floor. On the stairs, I ran into Simeon, who stopped and held my gaze. “Is it true?” he whispered, his voice breaking. “What did you hear?” I asked, confused.
“You’ve been rejecting me just to be with him?” he asked, tears clouding his eyes. “I still don’t…”
“Don’t play dumb. The news is spreading all over. You’ve accepted Tony as your man,” he spat with anger in his voice.
“Tony?” I asked, puzzled. “I wish you nothing but happiness,” He said, and walked away before I could explain further.
I reached the maid’s floor, and while walking through the hallway to find the room I woke up in, I saw the same guard who stopped me at the stairs standing beside the door, probably waiting for someone.
He smirked and tried to touch my chin, but I slapped his hand away. “Don’t you dare touch me, you pervert.” I warned.
“It seems you are playing hard to get, huh?” He spoke and grabbed me by the waist. “Let go of me, pervert!” I yelled and kept hitting his chest, “No need to blow the alarm; the whole mansion knows we are dating.” He spoke with a smirk, making me realize he was Tony.
“Never, I will never date a pig as you…” my words got stuck in my mouth when he slapped my face. “How dare you call me such a name?” He yelled, fuming with anger, “You dirty low life of a human.” He cursed and leaned to my left ear, “I will have you, and after I’m done with you, I’ll throw you away as the trash that you are.” He whispered those words into my ear as a promise and walked away.
With rage and anger, I held on to my cheek, wishing I could do something, but I knew I couldn’t, at least not now.
I sucked a deep breath and entered the room. When I got in, I realized three maids were in the room, including Anabelle. “I heard voices outside. Are you okay?” she asked, and I nodded.
The other two maids held my gaze for a moment, and without saying a word, they looked away. I noticed they were getting dressed, so I asked, “Are you guys going somewhere?” I asked Anabelle, who instantly replied, “The special moon is coming out today.” She said, “Really?” I asked with excitement.
The special moon comes out once every ten years, and it is believed that he takes the wishes of werewolves to the moon goddess for a speedy answer.
“Why are you so excited about it? You are a human, so you are not allowed to be there.” One of the maids mocked, but I ignored her. “We are all going to the pack square to make our requests and celebrate it, but the guards would have theirs here because they can’t leave the mansion unguarded.” Anabelle explained, while I nodded and sat on the empty bed I supposed was hers.
“Don’t feel bad; you can watch the guards here.” Anabelle comforted me, and I nodded.
I watched them dressed happily and left, leaving me alone in the room. With a tired sigh, I went to the bathroom, took a warm bath, and returned to the room with a towel wrapped around my chest.
With a frown, I stared at four boxes in the closet, contemplating which was hers until I decided to go for the small wooden one.
I opened it and saw night wears inside, and while taking out the clothes, I felt something underneath the heap of clothes. Curious about what it was, I took out all the clothes and realized a zip was at the bottom of the box. Without thinking of my actions, I unzipped the zip, put my hand inside it, and felt a notebook.
I reached inside and retrieved a notebook
I flipped open the notebook cover, scanning the pages for any sign of what it might contain. And then I saw it. The words “My Diary” were scrawled across the top of the first page in a delicate hand.
I hesitated for a moment, feeling like I was intruding on someone’s private thoughts. But my curiosity got the better of me, and I began to read.
I turned back to the first page of the diary, scanning the words until I found the very beginning. The entry was dated a few months ago, the first day she arrived at the mansion.
As I read on, I learned she had been hired as a maid in the mansion and was so excited about the adventure before her. As I read further, I saw she wrote about the bullying and harassment she faced from her fellow servants, who mocked her dark skin and made fun of her accent.
As I read further, I discovered her feelings for Simeon. She wrote about the butterflies she felt in her stomach whenever she saw him and how she longed to be with him but was too afraid that he might find his mate soon.
She also wrote about her struggles with her mother and sister, who were back home in their small village. They depended on her for financial support, but she was barely making enough to get by. She wrote about the stress and anxiety that came with being in debt and how it felt like the weight of the world was on her shoulders.
As I read through the diary, My heart broke into pieces. She had faced so many challenges in her life, something I know how it felt.
I read further and saw she wrote about the day I healed her; she went further to write so many good things about me and how lucky I was to have the kind of life I had. She also wished to be close to me but feared I would shun her away.
On the last page of the diary is when she talks about Tony’s harassment, and he threatens her to see him outside the mansion that day. She wrote that she wouldn’t go, but feared what would become of her.
Tears welled in my eyes as I closed the book, this maid has gone through a lot, and as the lady of the mansion, I have failed in my duties. I allowed myself to be so focused on my problems that I never for once, thought of the servants in the mansion.
I wouldn’t know all this If I didn’t wake up in her body. Something as wrong as this would have continued under my nose. With a sigh, I dropped the book back in the box and took out a nightwear, and wore it. Unsure of what to do, I opened the window and looked up at the sky and realized the wish moon was out, shining brightly. I could hear celebrating and loud chants from the guards; they all seemed happy with the appearance of the wish moon.
With a deep breath, I closed my eyes and wished for the only thing that mattered, that I wake up in my body, and she would wake up in her body.
There were so many things I needed to do, they were mistakes I needed to correct, and If not for anything, then I must wake up for the sake of alpha Ricardo; he is gradually losing himself, and it would be just a matter of time for him to break down.
“Please wish moon, grant my request.” I pleaded with my eyes closed while tears welled up in my eyes.
After a while, I opened my eyes, wiped the tears on my cheek, and went to the small wooden bed. I tried to stay awake, but I was so exhausted from the day’s work, and before I knew it, I fell asleep.
“Is there a way I can exchange my life for hers?” I heard the familiar voice speaking from a distance, “It’s not possible, Alpha, and you know that.” A strange voice responded. I tried to move, but my body felt heavy and unresponsive. I struggled to open my eyes, my body feeling heavy and unresponsive. My senses were slow to return, but I noticed a soft and comfortable bed beneath me. Summoning all my strength, I forced my eyes open, only to see the ceiling above me. Straining my neck, I turned my head sideways and noticed two figures at the window. My sight was blurred, but I repeatedly blinked until I saw one of the figures was alpha Ricardo, his back turned to me.
Slowly, I lifted my hand and realized my skin was fair and no longer dark, which meant one thing, I was back in my body.
With tears-filled eyes, I stared at the ring on my finger and moved my gaze back to alpha Ricardo, who was having a deep discussion with a stranger.
“There has to be a way; I can’t lose her…” he tried speaking, but I cut him off with a whisper, “Alpha Ricardo!” I whispered, and instantly he turned and held my gaze.
