Mia’s POV
He slammed the glass of wine in his hand to the floor, and yet, I didn’t flinch. “If only I was careful enough, this wouldn’t have happened.” He spoke with so many regrets in his voice, which got me curious, wanting to know what he meant. He held my gaze for a second and shook his head. “I wish to be left alone.” He ordered, but I didn’t move an inch. I knew I must hear all he had to say, and I would do anything to get him to talk.
“Lady Mia and I were close.” I said, getting his attention, “She told me you sold her to Lord Dickson, and he showed the video to her.” I said and saw the stunned look in his eyes. I couldn’t tell if he was surprised that I knew his secret, or if he was shocked at my words.
“I sold her?” He asked while holding my gaze with a furious look, “She told you that?” he asked while I nodded, waiting for him to defend himself, but he didn’t say a word; instead, he teleported away.
With a heavy sigh, I stood to my feet and walked around the room, wondering what was happening. I thought I knew everything, but now it’s clear to me that there are so many things I need to know. I wondered why he would say he brought in Lady Golden for my safety. Everything was becoming more confusing.
I settled my eyes on my body and wished I could wake up and question Alpha Ricardo myself, I knew I couldn’t question him in the body of a maid. While I was still in thought, Alpha Ricardo appeared in the room, but surprisingly, he was holding Lord Dickson by his neck. With stunned eyes, I watched him drag Lord Dickson to the bed, where my body lay. “Tell her the fucking truth,” he demanded furiously, causing the bulbs in the room to fluctuate.
Confused and curious, I watched Lord Dickson go down on his knees beside my body, trembling with fear. I was dumbfounded to see Lord Dickson in this scared and fragile state. He looked so different from the last time I saw him.
“If you can hear me, please forgive me.” he pleaded while his body shook with fear. “The first day I saw you, I got obsessed with you and decided to have you as mine….” He hesitated for a moment before saying, “While at the party, I took a strand of your hair and put it in a chastise box.” He announced while I gasped , but no one paid attention to me.
“Chastise box,” I whispered, wondering if I heard him right.” I threatened Alpha Ricardo with it. I told him if he didn’t let go of you, I would make sure to leave your hair there, and you know what that means.” He shuddered while I stood numb and shocked. “He didn’t sell you. The video you saw was edited.” he added, while I gulped as tears welled up in my eyes, “I’m so sorry, Mia, please forgive me, I didn’t plan for all this to happen. It was just a threat to have you…” He tried pleading, but Alpha Ricardo yanked him from the floor and teleported him away.
As they left, I was shocked and couldn’t move from where I stood; everything I thought I knew was nothing but lies. He didn’t want to break our vows or let go of me, but all he did was for me; he didn’t want me to lose my wolf and abilities.
At the thought of that, I broke down in tears, but quickly wiped them off when he teleported back to the room.
Ignoring my presence in the room, and made his way over to the mini bar nestled in the corner. Without a word, he retrieved a bottle of gin, opened it, and began to drink heavily. As I observed him, I couldn’t help but notice the misery etched on his face, and I knew without him saying a word that he was going through a lot.
He approached me with an expressionless look on his face and held my gaze. This time, I didn’t look away. “I love her so much,” he said, his voice breaking, “I love her more than life itself, and I would give up my life just to see her wake up.” His words sent a cold shiver down my spine. It was all so surreal.
He walked over to where I lay on the bed, sat beside me, and took my hand in his. “Hey,” he whispered, his voice heavy with emotion, “If you can hear me, please come back to me. I have a lot of things to say to you; please come back.” He pleaded, unable to hold back his tears.
I stood and watched as he wept before me, something I’d never witnessed from him before, not even when he lost his father. The Alpha Ricardo before me was entirely different, and I wondered what had changed him. Was it love?
As I watched him cry, I couldn’t help myself from going to him, despite how hard I tried to stop myself. I was only a maid, and it was dangerous to see an alpha so vulnerable. I reached out and placed my hand on his shoulder, but he didn’t react to it. He was stiff. “Alpha Ricardo,” I called out and shook him on the shoulder. This time, he responded by taking his head off. He turned to me with tears in his eyes, and he didn’t bother to hide them. Seeing him in such a state broke my heart.
“I believe she has forgiven you, Alpha, but first, you must forgive yourself,” I said, trying to offer some comfort. I saw more tears welled up in his eyes. “I don’t think I can. I don’t think I can forgive myself for all the terrible things I did to her.” He spoke with regret, and for once, I forgot my own plight and wished I could take his pain away. I was tempted to lift my hand and wipe away the tears that had fallen on his cheek, but I held back. I was just a maid, not Mia.
“You should leave,” he whispered, and I did as he said.
Leaving the room, my head was spinning with recent findings, but a part of me was relieved. It was a comfort to realize that he never wanted to let go of me or our marriage, and everything he had done was to protect me.
I walked into the sitting room to find Lady Golden giving instructions to a few maids. She noticed me and smiled, gesturing for me to come to her. “How is everything going?” She asked, and I nodded my head.
“Come on, walk with me,” she said, leading me out of the mansion and into the garden. As we walked, my anger simmered beneath the surface. I wished I could strangle her to death, but I knew if I tried, I’d be caught. As a lowly maid, my punishment would be death, and no one would believe that I was in the body of a maid.
“You work for me now, right?” She asked, and I nodded. “Great. I’ll send a substance to be brought tomorrow. “I’ll give it to you, and you’ll make sure to put it in her mouth. That substance will instantly shut down her organs,” she explained. Just as I was about to speak, I noticed Simeon and two other men approaching us. “Is there something wrong?” she asked, but they grabbed her arm and pulled her away while I watched, confused.
I decided to follow them, trying to make sense of what was happening. Lady Golden struggled and threatened to deal with them, but they ignored her words. We reached the sitting room, where I saw everyone: the cooks, security guards, and maids. “Father! What are you doing here?” Lady Golden asked, freeing herself from their grips and making her way to a middle-aged man standing beside her personal maid.
As I tried to process what was happening, Alpha Ricardo entered the room with another man. The moment Lady Golden saw the stranger, she gasped and stepped backward in fear. “I called you all here to expose this woman,” he spoke and pushed the man forward. “Speak,” he ordered, and the man quickly nodded.
“Lady Golden is my mate,” he announced, and everyone gasped except for her, who had a worried look on her face. “She claimed she loved me, but because I wasn’t wealthy, she decided to devise a plan…” He paused and held her gaze while she shook her head, telling him to stop, but he didn’t. “She intended to come into Alpha Ricardo’s life, marry him, give birth to a son, and kill him.” He announced, and everyone gasped in shock.
“When she realized a few weeks ago that Alpha Ricardo didn’t want her anymore, she drugged him and made him believe that he took her virginity while they did nothing.” Hearing those words, I held Alpha Ricardo’s gaze and could see he was fuming with anger but was doing his best to control himself.
“She threatened Alpha Ricardo that if he doesn’t get married to her that she would lie to her father and the council of werewolves that he took her pride and wants to send her away….”
“Lies!” She yelled. “Don’t believe what he is saying, Dad. He has been paid a lot of money to say this….” She tried speaking, but Alpha Ricardo cut in.
“Keep shut!” He yelled and marched forward to her with rage-fuming eyes. “The reason I haven’t laid a hand on you is that you are a woman, but don’t push me.” He yelled and threw an envelope on the floor. “This is a duplicate of the test results you did a few days ago.” He approached her and grabbed her arms forcefully. “You are one month pregnant for your mate, and you think you can deceive me into thinking it’s mine, huh?” He yelled and pushed her to the floor. “You had the guts to drug me and wished to kill my wife!” He yelled, and the ground beneath our feet shook viciously, making everyone cringe with fear.
Jayson walked towards him and placed his hand on the left shoulder of Alpha Ricardo and began massaging it.
“You have to keep calm. If you lose control of your ability, you know how dangerous that would be for us.” He pleaded while I held his gaze and saw his eyes softening at my gaze, but he quickly withdrew away.
He turned his gaze to Lady Golden’s father, who hadn’t said a word since he came. “I won’t report this matter because of the respect I have for you and the good friendship you had with my father. Take your daughter away before I do something I will regret.” He teleported away with the young man while we all stood as every maid whispered among themselves.
“Go upstairs and bring down everything that is hers,” Simeon ordered, and a few maids hurried upstairs, including me.
I made sure only her things were brought downstairs. We put her stuff in the car’s trunk, and out of shame, she walked out of the mansion while her father lowered his head with shame. They left the mansion, and all the maids celebrated with joy while I just stood and watched with a relieved smile on my face.
