Alpha Ricardo’s POV
“No, no, tell me it’s not true,” I yelled, grabbing Doctor Stephen by the collar of his shirt. “Please take a grip on yourself.” He pleaded, “No, no!” I yelled as my heart clenched in my chest. “Take a grip on yourself, Alpha,” Jayson whispered, informing me not to show my emotions.
With my heart throbbing in pain, I let go of Doctor Steven’s collar and almost fell to the floor, but Jayson was quick to hold me. “Please get a grip on yourself,” he pleaded, while his words fell on deaf ears.
“We are uncertain when she will wake up, but we believe she will be up soon.” Doctor Stephen spoke with a sigh. “No, this is not happening.” I mumbled, finding it hard to believe that Mia was in great danger and I might lose her.
“Can we see her now?” Jayson asked, “Yes, but in a few minutes.” Doctor Stephen responded, while I remained numb as his words kept buzzing in my head. ”Let’s have a seat and wait,” Jayson pleaded and led me to the waiting room. As we sat in the hospital waiting room, my heart felt like it’d been shattered into a million pieces. Doctor Stephen’s words echo in my mind like a never-ending nightmare. I can’t believe it. My Mia is lying in a hospital bed, unconscious and on the verge of death. It felt like my world had come crashing down. Tears streamed down my face, and I didn’t draw them back. Every breath feels like a struggle as I try to process what’s happening.
”You can now see her; I’ll lead you to her.” A nurse said, forcing me up on my feet. With heavy feet, I walked behind her while Jayson followed behind, but Chris and his men stayed behind. As we got to the door, my heart pounded with fear and pain, and I wondered how I could see her in such a condition.
The nurse opened the door for me and Jayson to go in. With a deep breath, I composed myself and entered the room. As I walked into the room, my heart clenched in my chest at the sight of Mia lying on the bed. A white bandage was wrapped around her head, her eyes tightly shut, and a series of wires connected to her body. ”Mine.” My wolf howled in pain, causing my breath to seize in my chest.
”Take a grip on yourself. Remember your abilities, and how risky it would be if you lost control of them.” Jayson warned. With a heavy sigh, I made my way to her and sat on the chair beside her. As I sat beside Mia’s unconscious body, my heart felt heavy with pain and regret. I couldn’t help but blame myself for what had happened to her. I should have protected her better. I should have been more careful. Tears welled up in my eyes as I looked at her peaceful face, her chest rising and falling with each breath from the ventilator. I took her hand in mine and whispered, “I’m so sorry, Mia. I should have been there for you. I should have protected you from harm.” My voice was barely above a whisper as I continued to speak to her, hoping that somehow my words would reach her even though she was unconscious. “Please wake up, Mia. I need you. I can’t bear the thought of losing you.” I pleaded, and allowed the tears to fall freely on my cheeks. I sat there for what felt like hours, holding her hand and praying for her to wake up. The silence in the room was only broken by the beeping of the machines monitoring her vital signs. The door of the room opened, and Doctor Stephen walked in with a nurse. He didn’t say a word to me but went to Mia, checked her vital signs, and released a soft sigh. “What is wrong, and please don’t lie to me,” I demanded, expecting to hear the worst from him.
“She is okay, Alpha.” He spoke, but I didn’t believe him. ”You can go home. It’s past 3 am. The nurse will stay with her; she won’t leave her side,” He pleaded, but I shook my head. I couldn’t leave her side.
What if something happens?
“Nothing will happen to her,” Jayson said, sounding like he was reading my thoughts. “You need to have some sleep, freshen up, and have your meal. Remember, you are the alpha of thousands of people; if you break down, thousands of people will break down with you,” Jason warned, causing a heavy sigh to leave my lips. “Don’t worry about anything,” he said, tapping me lightly on the shoulder. With a heavy heart , I stared at Mia, whose eyes were tightly shut. My heart clenched, but I composed myself and took away the strands of hair covering her face. “Please be strong for me.” With a heavy heart, I leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead before rising to my feet.
“Call me if anything comes up,” I told Doctor Stephen, and I got a nod from him. I fixed my gaze on Mia while I hesitated to take my leave, but Jayson stood before me, blocking me from looking at her. ”Let’s go,” He urged in a voice that had no room for argument. Without saying a word, I walked out of the room and met Chris and his men at the door. They all wore scared and worried looks on their faces.
“What happened?” I asked, holding back my rage from exploding. ”We didn’t know Lord Dickson was also in the club.” One of his men spoke, causing an angry groan to leave my lips. “She met Lord Dickson?” I asked. “Yes, a few minutes later we realized she was running away from his men, but they stopped when they saw us. We followed her and tried telling her to stop, but she mistook us for Lord Dickson’s men and continued running; that was when she got hit by a car.” He murmured in fear, his gaze buried in the ground.
”Idiot!” I yelled. “How could you be so foolish?” I yelled, grabbing the collar of the man who had just explained everything to me. “Not just Lord Dickson, but you two are responsible for what happened,” I yelled through gritted teeth as rage boiled in my blood.
“Keep calm,” Jayson said through mind link. With gritted teeth, I pushed him to the floor and let go of him.
”We are so sorry, Alpha.” Chris apologized. “Your apologies won’t change a thing.” I yelled, held Jayson’s wrist, and teleported away.
We appeared in the sitting room and I let go of him. ”Take care of everything,” I said, and before he could give a response, I teleported away.
I arrived in an empty sitting room, looked around, and saw no one. Frustration and anger coursed through my veins. I marched up the stairs, taking two at a time, and flung open the doors. The first room was empty, the bed neatly made, and there was not a trace of anyone in sight. The same could be said for the second and third rooms. My frustration had turned into anger, and I was practically tearing the doors off their hinges. Finally, I reached the last door at the end of the hallway. I slammed the door open and barged into the room. To my surprise, the room was not empty. Lord Dickson was seated on the bed, his head buried in his hands.
“You!” I yelled, grabbing him by the collar of his shirt. “Let go of me, Alpha Ricardo.” He yelled and tried taking my grip off his collar, but it was useless. Rather, I threw a punch in his face, sending him to the ground.
“Because of you, Mia is fighting for her life,” I yelled in rage, releasing flames of fire from my hands. “Don’t you dare make a move,” I warned, increasing the flames in my hands. I could see how terrified he looked, but he summoned up courage and spoke, “If you do anything to me, remember I still have the box.” He threatened, causing my blood to boil with anger. “Are you threatening me?” I asked, moving the bedside lamp from the corner of the bed with my abilities and landing it on his head. “Do you think I’m scared of your threats?” I asked angrily. “I agreed to your silly games because I did not want her to lose her wolf and abilities, but what did I get in return?” I asked through gritted teeth, increasing the flames in my hands and causing a hot heat to envelop the entire room.
“I will burn you to ashes, and not even the goddess will save you,” I declared and marched forward to him, but stopped when I noticed something odd beneath my feet. Curious, I fixed my gaze on the floor beneath my feet before holding Lord Dickson’s gaze, only to see his eyes filled with tension, proving something was beneath my feet.
“If you move an inch, I’ll burn you in a way that no one will recognize you.” I warned him and took a step backward. With my ability, I lifted the red rug that covered that side of the floor and noticed something was buried underground. Without wasting much time, I broke through that particular spot with my ability and saw the chastise box buried inside the ground. “Stay away from it,” Lord Dickson yelled, as he tried coming to me, but I blocked him from reaching me with flames of fire. As the flames of fire separated us, I took out the box from the ground, left it hanging in the air, and looked through it but realized there were no strands of Mia’s hair inside the box.
He had taken it off.
”Her hair is no longer there; just leave the box and go,” he yelled, sounding almost like a plea, which I didn’t heed to. Mia was in this condition because of this box, and I didn’t want anyone to fall victim to it.
“Just go; I won’t trouble you anymore.” Lord Dickson yelled with panic, but I didn’t pay attention to him.
“Please let this work, if not for my sake, but for others.” I prayed silently to the moon goddess and grabbed the box with my hands, which were already inflamed with fire.
As I held the small box in my hands, I could feel the intense heat emanating from my palms. The box was made of crystal blocks, but shockingly, before I could take another breath, I felt the box crumble in my grip. Pieces of broken, sparkling crystals fell to the ground like rain.
