Mia’s POV
”This is unbelievable,” Alpha Joshua responded with disbelief after I had explained everything to him.
With a deep sigh, I sipped my coffee, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to fall on my cheek. For a strange reason, I was feeling heartbroken.
”Are you okay?” He asked while taking my hand from the table. I didn’t give him a response, rather I looked away, doing my best to avoid his gaze and keep my mind blank so that he wouldn’t read through me.
”Aren’t you supposed to be happy about this? I thought this is what you wanted?” He questioned while I couldn’t give a response because he was right. I was supposed to be happy with the turnout of events, but deep down, I was heartbroken and hurt.
”You are falling for him,” my wolf whispered while I scoffed and shook my head in disgust. I can never fall for him, not in this life or seven lives to come.
I noticed alpha Joshua was silent for a while before releasing a heavy sigh. ”I have to leave,” He said, gesturing to the waitress to come our way.
”Is something wrong?” I asked, ”Not really. When I got your message, I hurriedly left, forgetting I had a meeting with my gammas,” He explained while opening his wallet. He took out some cash and handed it to the server, and gestured for her to keep the change.
”I’m sorry, but I have to go now. Do you want me to take you home?” He asked with concern as he stood to his feet. ”No, don’t worry about me. I’m fine.” I said with a weak smile.
I saw the worried look in his eyes as he found it hard to leave me, but it seemed the meeting was really important, and he had to be there. ”Don’t worry, I’ll be fine,” I assured him again when I saw how he hesitated to leave. He released a frustrated sigh and leaned closer to me. ”Call me if you need anything,” He pleaded, while I nodded and watched him leave.
As he walked out of the door, I relaxed on the seat and took a long sip of my coffee, trying to get my mind off everything.
My thoughts drifted to Lady Golden, and I couldn’t help but feel a glimpse of jealousy in me. She is beautiful, well-mannered, and from a reputable home. Such a woman is fit to be any alpha’s Luna.
”Don’t you think something is wrong? Why would he marry her after getting married to you?” My wolf asked, getting me angered. ”You heard him right. He only marked me because of his father’s wish.” I responded with a groan and took another sip of the coffee.
”We meet again.” I heard a familiar voice behind me, and turned to see Lord Dickson standing before me with a pleased smile.
”You?’ what are you doing here?” I asked, shocked to see him.
”This is a coffee shop.” He responded and pulled out the seat before me. ”Can I sit?” He asked, while I rolled my eyes and looked away.
He took the seat before me with an annoying smile on his face, which irritated me. ”What are you doing here? Were you following me?” I asked, and got a soft chuckle from him. ”Meeting you is a coincidence. I came here for a business deal and decided to have a cup of coffee before returning home,” He responded, signaling the server to us.
I frowned at his words and sipped my coffee. ”I came to your home a few days ago, but alpha Ricardo refused me to see you. He also said something about you being his wife and mate….” ” I’m not his mate.” I spat out, holding the blank look of lord Dickson.
”That’s great news.” He smirked and sipped his coffee.
A moment of silence filled the place until he spoke, ”I’ll be staying in this town for a few months,” He announced, causing me to look at him. ”For business,” He added while I nodded and looked away.
I could feel his piercing gaze on me, which made me uncomfortable, forcing me to stand on my feet. ”I have to leave. It was a pleasure meeting you again,” I said and picked up my things from the table. ”Wait, I have something to say to you.” He pleaded and signaled the server that he wanted to leave.
I waited for him to pay his bills before leaving the coffee shop with him. We left the coffee shop, and he directed me to his car. ”Where are you taking me?” I asked as he opened the door of the vehicle for me. ”Somewhere quiet.” He said, ”I don’t wanna go anywhere.” I grumbled and began walking away.
I knew he was interested in me, I could see it all over him, but I wasn’t ready for such things. ”Wait up.” He spoke as he walked behind me.
”The answer is no.” I responded and turned to him, ”I can’t have anything to do with you, Lord Dickson, so you should stop trying.” I said and tried walking away, but he grabbed my wrist, forcing my step to cease.
With a sigh, I turned to him, ” Let’s talk about it,” He pleaded while I shook my head in response, ”There is nothing to talk about, Lord Dickson. Maybe I gave you a wrong impression because of what we did at that party….” I tried speaking, but he cut me off, ”I’m not here because of what happened at the party.” He said softly, ”I know you are his mate, you have his mark on your neck. I also know that he is leaving you to marry another because of your status” His words made me speechless. ”You deserve the best, Mia, and I want to give that to you. Just give me a chance.” He pleaded with so much sincerity in his voice that it weakened my bones. ”Think about it, Mia, just think about it.” He pleaded and let go of my wrist.
I watched him walk away, while I just stood there and pondered on his words. ”Don’t even think about it.” My wolf discouraged me as I walked away.
I reached the mansion, entered the sitting room, and saw Lady Golden instructing Aunt Cara. ”My feet should be washed every night before I go to bed.” She said those words of instruction to aunt Cara, who stood there blankly. ”I take my bath as early as 6 am and would need two extra maids to assist me since I only came with a maiden,” She instructed while Aunt Cara nodded. ” I hope they won’t be any mistakes….” Before she could complete her statement, I cut her off, ”You shouldn’t be giving these instructions to aunt Cara; she isn’t a servant here.” I said while making my way to them, ”She is like a mother to Alpha Ricardo and me. I believe he didn’t tell you that,” I said while holding my gaze with aunt Cara, who had a blank look on her face.
”Oh! I had no idea, she’s dressed as a maid, so I mistook her for one.” She spoke rudely, getting me irritated by her attitude. ”Now you know, please, this shouldn’t happen again,” I said and made my way to the stairs.
I climbed the stairs, got to my room, and sat on the bed. Just when I was about to take off my shoes, a knock came on the door.
”Come in.”
The door opened; lady Golden walked in and shut the door behind her. ”Can I help you with something?” I asked as she majestically made her way to me.
”I think we need to have a clear understanding of some things,” She said as she stood before me with a fierce look. ”About what?” I asked as I stood to my feet.
She went silent for a moment before speaking, ”I’m the future wife of Alpha Ricardo. That makes me the mistress of this mansion….” She paused and continued, ”I would appreciate it if you don’t cut me off when I’m giving instructions, and also, it would be nice if you don’t counter my orders or instructions. I don’t want it to look like we are in any competition.” She spoke firmly, while I just stood there, stunned by her words.
It’s not even up to a day, and she’s exhibiting such attitudes. ”Stay off my path, and I’ll stay off yours,” She warned and approached the door, but I stopped her. ”Hold on,” I said and made her look my way. ” Do you have something to say to me?” She asked with raised eyebrows, ”Yes!” I responded and took a step closer.
”Listen…” I paused and sucked a deep breath to compose and control my rising anger, ” I have no business in how you want to run the mansion, but in whatever you do, make sure you keep aunt Cara out of it, she is not a servant in this Mansion, and I hope you give her the same level of respect you would give alpha Ricardo’s mother if she were still here. This is for your good, and alpha Ricardo won’t be pleased if he sees you treating her badly.” I advised, ”And so you know, I’m in no competition with you, you’ll get married to him, and I’ll leave someday.” With those words, I returned to the bed, sat on it, and watched her glare at me for a moment before leaving.
”Bitch!” My wolf cursed.
I took off my shoes and lay on the bed, forcing myself to sleep.
I was still asleep when I felt a familiar presence in the room. Curious, I opened my eyes and saw alpha Ricardo standing In front of me with folded arms. ”What are you doing here?” I asked while sitting on the bed.
”What did you say to lady Golden?” He asked, getting me confused.
