Mia’s POV
I felt my words get stuck in my mouth as I couldn’t say a word to him. The last time I saw him four years ago, he wasn’t this intimidating to be with. Over the course of four years, he has grown in every area of his personality. His words were deep and full of authority. He has more muscles and abs and I wonder the number of workouts he must have put in.
”I understand, I myself feel suffocated by all these people.” He spoke after several minutes of silence. ”Do you want to go somewhere else?” He asked, ”No…” I wanted to decline, but I thought it was best he took me out of here, that way I could escape quickly.
”Yeah, sure.” I responded with a nod. ”Alright, come with me.” he flashed me a friendly smile and led the way.
With heavy feet, I walked behind him and arrived at the parking lot of the hotel. ”Which is your car?” I asked while moving my gaze around. ”That one” He said and pointed at a red Toyota venza. ”Cool.” I whispered and followed him to the car.
When we got to the car, he opened the car and stepped aside for me to get in. ”Thanks.” I flashed him a weak smile and hopped in. He walked to the other side of the car and entered the driver’s seat. ”My mother will kill me if she gets to know that I drove myself.” He said with a soft chuckle, while I just smiled and looked outside the window.
I was damn nervous, I didn’t want Ricardo to find me. If he saw me, then my plans of running away would be cut off. ” Why do you want to run away!” He asked.
I was startled by his words. How on earth did he know I was running away?
”Oh, I forgot to tell you. I can read sixty percent of what’s on one’s mind. I’m still working on myself, so I can fully know what’s on one’s mind.” He announced, while his gaze was fixed on the road.
”Woah!” Was all I could say, I never knew he had such ability. ” So tell me why you want to run away from home?” he asked again, after not getting a response from me.
I didn’t know what to say to him, I mean, how could I… I paused and stared at him. I couldn’t think while with him. If I did, then he would know the truth. ”What truth?” He asked, ”Shit, stop doing that!” I grumbled and looked away.
He chuckled loudly and shook his head, ”Not to worry, I can’t read all your thoughts.” He said, while I scoffed in disbelief.
The ride was silent as I couldn’t think in my mind because of fear of him knowing what I was thinking.
After a few minutes, he drove into a popular club. ”I believe you can take a few bottles.” He said with a smirk and put off the engine.
I wanted to tell him that I had to go away before Ricardo took notice of my absence, but he spoke, ”Don’t worry, your brother won’t find you here.” With those words of assurance, he got out of the car while I did the same. ”Next time, wait for me to open the door for you.” ”But you are an alpha, you shouldn’t be seen doing it.” I objected, but he did not say a word.
I followed him into the club and opened my mouth in awe as I stared around. I haven’t really been to a nightclub, especially one as stunning as this. The lights were dimmed so that you would hardly recognize anyone. I noticed the bouncers lowered their heads to Alpha Joshua as we made our way through a door which was written ”private cabin”.
With a nervous gulp, I followed him and stood by the door while he closed the door behind me. ”Feel free.” He said and took my both hands. He led me to the two-seater couch and made me take a seat. Curious, I moved my gaze around and spotted a small, sizable bed in a corner. A big digital TV was hung on the wall which was displaying what was happening at the main dance floor.
”This club is yours.” I did not say it as a question. He nodded his head and sat across me while his gaze was fixed on me. ”Stop it!” I grumbled and looked away. ”Not to worry, I told you I can’t read everything in your mind.” He responded and relaxed on the couch.
”What will you have?” He asked, ”A beer.” I responded without thinking about it. ”Roger that.” he responded and flashed me a friendly smile, which I did not respond to.
Silence filled the whole place as none of us said a word until a soft knock came on the door. With panic, I stared at the door, ”Calm down, it’s just the server.” He assured me.
The door opened, and a female server walked in with a tray of beers in her hand. She lowered her head with respect and dropped the tray on the center table. ”Thanks.” I said and got a smile from her.
She opened two bottles of beer and turned up our glasses. ”Thanks, you can leave.” Alpha Joshua said while she lowered her head and left.
”Drink up.” He gestured. Inhaling deeply, I filled up my glass and took a sip of my drink. Curiously, I moved my gaze around before meeting his gaze. ”Tell me why you want to run away.” He asked, while holding my gaze.
Quickly I made sure my mind was blank, so he wouldn’t get a clue. ”Alpha Ricardo is maltreating you because you are his father’s mistress’s daughter?” He asked, while I just nodded. ”That’s very ridiculous of him, he shouldn’t be doing that.” He groaned and took another sip of his drink. ”I heard you turned eighteen two days ago.” ”How did you know that?” I asked, curious, ”I Have been keeping an eye on you for the past few days.” He responded nonchalantly and emptied his glass.
I got confused at his words and had to ask, ”Why would you do that?” ”Because I need a big favor from you.” He responded in a serious tone, which got me more confused.
”I don’t get you.” I said with confused eyebrows. I heard him release a heavy sigh and fill up his glass. Without saying a word, he took a sip of his drink before clearing his throat. ”Obviously you haven’t found your mate.” He said while staring at my neck. Nervously, I scratched my neck, but made sure to keep my mind blank. ”And what does that have with me helping you, Alpha Joshua.” I spoke formally and got a soft chuckle from him. ”Just call me Joshua.” He said and took a sip of his drink. ”So?” I asked, curious.
I watched him inhale deeply before speaking. ”I believe you remembered the first time we met.” He said, while I nodded my head. ”You remember I told you I came with my boyfriend?” He asked, while I gulped and nodded my head. ”Well…” He paused and took another sip of his drink before he continued. ”I’m gay!” He announced while holding my gaze. With stunned eyes, I held his gaze and gulped. He didn’t look like one who was gay. Don’t get me wrong, there were some signs you would see in a man, and you will get a hint that he is gay. Alpha Joshua didn’t have any of those traits, so anyone could swear he was straight.
”You are right, no one could tell I’m gay, not even my sister.” He spoke with a weak smile. ”Oh!” Was all I could say as I took a sip of my drink. Silence filled the whole place again as we both silently took our drinks.
I knew he wasn’t nervous, but he was giving me time to process his words. ”So?” I asked after several minutes of silence. ”I’m glad you have nothing against gay.” He responded while I just scoffed and say, ”What’s there to be against.” I asked and shook my head. ”This is why I picked you because you are the right person for this.” His words got me curious and confused. ”What…” I wanted to ask, but he cut in, ”I need you to act as my girlfriend for just a Year.” He blurted out.
”Wh…at…” I asked, startled by his words. ”Yes, it’s just for a year.” He responded with a sigh. ”Why, why would you want to deceive your people?” I asked, curious.
He inhaled deeply, emptied his glass and stood at his feet. He turned his back to me while his arms were folded behind him. ”I have just been made an alpha and my subjects are curious, wondering who my mate is. Although I have told them, I haven’t found my mate, which is absolutely true, but I told them I have a girlfriend.” He said and heaved a heavy sigh, ”I can’t tell them I’m gay, at least not now. I want to be able to rule for at least a year before I spill everything out to them.” He said, and turned to face me.
”My seer confirmed that I would meet my mate in a year time, and he would be a man. My people won’t discriminate me if I decide to stay with a man because he is my mate. They will have to accept him, but while waiting for him, I have to show someone to them as my girlfriend, so when eventually I find my mate, they won’t have anything against me because it’s the goddess’s decision and not mine.” He explained.
I gulped at his words and emptied my glass. ”You don’t have to be scared of anything, I will take care of it all.” He assured me and took his seat. I couldn’t form words out of my mouth, neither could I think in my heart because there was all tendency that he would find out about my secrets.
”If you agree to be my fake girlfriend, I’ll take you under my wings and Alpha Ricardo would not be able to maltreat you.” He assured me, while I shook my head and took a sip of my drink.
”I…” I wanted to speak but heard a familiar voice in my head, ”Where are you?” He asked in a calm tone, but the anger in his voice could be noticed. Out of panic, I closed the mind-link and uncomfortably moved on the couch. ”He is looking for you?” He asked, and I just nodded.
”Do you want me to tell him that you are with me.” He asked, ”No, No.” I replied quickly. ”Oops, it’s already too late, I’ve already told him so.” He said in a serious tone, ”You must be kidding me.” I asked in disbelief, but he shook his head and took a sip of his drink.
”Shit!” I blurted out.
