Chapter 129
A Mother’s plea.
Sarah’s POV:
I can’t help but feel a sense of triumph as I pace in my cell, my mind replaying the conversation I had with Lily.
She is falling for my trap, hook, line, and sinker. I carefully crafted my words, manipulating her emotions and playing on her sympathies.
And it worked. She is buying into my story, unaware that I am using her to secure a lighter sentence.
I will do anything to see my daughter again, even if it means betraying my own morals. I’ve been rotting in this cell for what feels like an eternity, missing out on precious moments with my little girl.
But if I can just keep up this charade, Detective James will get the information he needs, and I’ll be free to go.
I thought of this till I fell asleep.
I woke up in a hush as I saw my daughter and the syndicate, they were threatening her.
“Oh my God! What have I done?” I asked myself.
I must find anything to do to get to see her and see if she is in good health.
I walked to detective James’s office not knowing what to say but knowing that there will be a lot of conspiracies.
“I have a lot to tell you!” I said.
“Okay!” Detective asked me to go on.
“And this is nothing but the truth!” He told me.
“Fine!” He said as he fixed his gazed on me.
I started to reveal to Detective James, the words pouring out of me like a dam breaking.
“Chris and Megan, they orchestrated a sinister plot to murder Kayla, Detective. They aimed to silence her permanently, as she was on the verge of exposing their illicit activities to the authorities.” I said.
“Do you know that she works with her father as the basement of the Syndicate, but has they could not get along, she busted their hideout!” She said.
Detective James’ eyes widened in shock, his face set in a grim expression, I guess I am getting what I want.
“What transpired next?” he asked, his voice low and urgent.
I took a deep breath, the memories flooding back.
“Chris and Megan, they conspired to eliminate Kayla, but their plan was discovered by the gang. In a twisted turn of events, the gang sought revenge against Chris and Megan for their betrayal.” I continued.
Detective James’ face darkened, his eyes blazing with anger.
“And what became of Chris and Megan?” he asked, his voice tight with tension.
I hesitated, knowing that what I was about to reveal would have far-reaching consequences.
“The gang… they apprehended Chris and exacted their own brand of justice. He’s currently in their custody, subjected to unimaginable suffering.” I said with confidence.
“He was shoot in the foot too!” I added.
Detective James’ eyes narrowed, his gaze piercing.
“Precisely what did the gang do to Chris?” he asked, his voice firm but controlled.
I swallowed hard, the words sticking in my throat.
“Chris… he’s being brutally tortured, Detective. The gang is exacting revenge for his role in the plot against Kayla. They are making him pay for his betrayal.” I added.
Detective James’ face set in a grim mask, his eyes cold and hard.
“I’ll dispatch a team to locate Chris and bring him to safety,” he said, his voice devoid of emotion.
“But you, Sarah… you need to remain here, in protective custody. You are not safe outside these walls.” He told me.
“Protective custody?” I thought.
“This is not going according to plan!” I thought.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing thoughts. I need to stay focused, keep playing the game. I can’t let my guard down, not even for a moment. One slip-up, and it’s all over.
I think back to the conversation with Lily, replaying her words in my head. She’s so gullible, so desperate to believe that I’m telling the truth. I feel a pang of guilt, but I push it aside. This is survival, and I’ll do whatever it takes to make it out of here.
As I continue pacing, I hear the sound of footsteps outside my cell. My heart skips a beat as the door opens, and Detective James walks in. He’s got a look of determination in his eyes, and I know that he’s not going to go easy on me.
“Sarah, we need to talk,” he says, his voice firm but controlled.
I nod, trying to appear cooperative. “What is it, Detective?”
He pulls out a chair and sits down, his eyes never leaving mine. “Lily’s been talking, and we’ve got enough to make a deal. But I need to know that you’re willing to cooperate fully.”
“What!” I muttered.
“Why must she do that behind my back?” I thought.
He nods, a small smile playing on his lips.
“I’ll make sure that happens, Sarah. But first, we need to get one thing clear: you’re going to have to testify against your former associates. Can you do that for me?” He asked me.
I take a deep breath, trying to steel myself.
“I knew what I got myself into, but I’m willing to do whatever it takes to be with my daughter again.” I told him.
“Yes, Detective,” I say, my voice firm. “I’ll do it.”
He nods, a look of satisfaction on his face.
“Good. I’ll make sure that the district head knows you are cooperating fully. And soon, you’ll be out of here, free to start your life over.” He said when I felt a smile curved on my face.
I feel a wave of relief wash over me, mixed with a healthy dose of fear.
I knew that I’m taking a risk, but I’m willing to do whatever it takes to be with my daughter again. Even if it means betraying my former associates, even if it means living in fear for the rest of my life.
I’m a mother, and I’ll do whatever it takes to protect my child. Even if it means sacrificing my own freedom.
I could not help but feel a mix of emotions. Anxiety, fear, and excitement all swirl together in my chest. But one thought keeps me going… seeing my daughter again.
My sweet, innocent child. She’s the light of my life, the reason I keep fighting. I can’t wait to hold her in my arms, to feel her warm embrace, and to see her bright smile.
I’ve made mistakes, I’ve messed up, but my love for my child has always been pure. I hope she knows that, deep down. I hope she can see past my flaws and know that I’m trying to be a better person for her sake.
As the days tick by, I count down the moments until I’m reunited with my daughter. I dream of our laughter, our adventures, our quiet moments together. I know that with her by my side, I can face whatever comes next.
