Shouts and gasps filled the room again. Alpha Lake had scratched his long sharp claws deep across Janeth’s face, scarring her for life.
“Lock her up with silver chains! No food, no water!” He growled out.
“Yes, Alpha,” Andrew replied sharply.
He too, was angry. How dare she? She knew collaborating with witches was forbidden, yet she did and even used it to try and fool the whole Pack.
He hated her immediately, he used to take pity on her before because she suffered unrequited love which he was also experiencing with Audrey, but, this time? No! She crossed the line.
“Please,” Janeth pleaded weakly, she could not speak properly because her lips were slashed too, and she was in deep pain.
Alpha Lake ignored her and strode dangerously toward Audrey.
Adeline had run off to her father the moment things got heated up, she didn’t plan to interrupt the Alpha when he was in such a beast mood. As she saw him dangerously advance towards Audrey, she wished he would subject her to the same fate as her twin, but she frowned as she saw what he did instead.
“Follow!” He growled out, dragging Audrey’s arm and forcefully taking her out of the hall.
“No! Let me go!” Audrey struggled.
“I said, let me go at once!” Audrey screamed as she felt herself being lifted off the floor and roughly placed on the Alpha’s shoulder.
She kept struggling but it didn’t faze him as he increased his stride until he reached the training field.
He roughly dropped her on her feet, and she immediately turned to run off but he drew her back with her backside plastered to his front, an arm went around her neck and he placed his other hand on her head.
“Now, kitten, listen,” He whispered dangerously close to her ear.
He ignored the currents that were passing through his veins like hot magma. He was still furious to yield to those tingling sensations.
“One wrong reply, I’ll snap your tiny neck, understand?” He said to her.
“Fuck off!” Audrey said angrily.
She was angry that she still had to deal with the annoying mate bond in such a serious situation. She hated that he felt he was the only one who had the right to feel betrayed and angry. She had the same right too, if not more.
“Tsk, wrong answer,” He tightened his arm around Audrey’s neck.
But, Audrey refused to make a sound, she wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing her suffer like before.
“Now, tell me, who are you?” He asked.
“Do you want back your Audrey so bad? I’ve told you before, I’m not her! Sorry to disappoint you, again.” Audrey said bitterly.
“Think well, before you answer, Kitten, I’m not in a very good mood.” He threatened.
“If you’re not her, good. Now, confess to me, where is the witch who helped you change your look, two unrelated people can’t look identical, you saw what happened in the hall. Trust me, as you’re not a wolf, your punishment would be lighter,” Alpha Lake promised.
He now believed within himself that witches were still out there trying to find a means to infiltrate his Pack. He will not let them. And he believed that Catherine coming to his Pack wasn’t a coincidence, from what happened with Janeth earlier, he believed anything could be possible.
‘I’m the witch’ Audrey said in her head.
“What if I’m Audrey? Would you mate me?” Audrey asked out of nowhere.
She wanted to know where she stood, for she was soon going to reveal herself one of these days and she wanted to know what happens next when she does.
“Ugh!” Audrey choked as Alpha Lake’s arms tightened more around her neck.
“If you were her, you don’t deserve to live. I’d kill you right here.” Alpha Lake whispered angrily.
He was angry and everything that had happened today reminded him of the genesis of his parent’s death.
“Mate? Never! I’ll never mate such a pig!” He sneered.
Audrey smiled self-deprecatingly; why was she hurt by his reply? It’s not like she hasn’t heard those words before. But she was glad, that made her decision and mission easier. She’s been swayed for a long time.
“You can rest assured, I’m just someone unfortunate enough to look like the person you wish to kill.” She removed his arm from her neck, freeing herself from him.
“I just have a few more months to stay, I hope we keep to the contract, sir. You can’t be wanting to fuck someone that looks like someone you want to kill ” She took a step away from him.
“Don’t be contradictory,” Audrey said before turning and walking into the forest.
Alpha Lake stood there, watching her leave. Regal was distressed, he wanted her as his mate and at the same time, he cared for the safety of his Pack.
What if she ended up being just like Janeth? Would he be able to hurt her, for a person can change their look but not their soul, he felt it, she was his mate, but he wanted her to show him her real self, and he might forgive her.
Deep in the forest, Audrey stood amidst trees. She made sure Alpha Lake didn’t follow her, or anyone else for that matter.
The night wind was slightly heavy, blowing the tree leaves around and rustling the dry fallen ones.
Audrey closed her eyes and lifted her face to the sky, allowing the wind to blow harshly against her face and muss her hair around; she didn’t care about her appearance at the moment. She was pissed.
“Argh!!!” She let out a loud frustrated scream, sending the birds flying away from the nearby trees.
She was angry and bitter.
Why did it have to be her? Out of all the wolves in the world, the moon goddess had to choose her to pair with such an unfeeling villain.
Why did she have to suffer the way she did? She didn’t ask for any of these, given a choice, she would choose to be a normal human, just the way they thought she was, no powers, no gifts, and, no wolf.
‘Ouch,’ Avery said dejectedly.
‘We say things we don’t mean when angry. She doesn’t mean it, Avery.’ Selena comforted.
Audrey closed her eyes to block their voices out but it didn’t work, she didn’t want to hear anyone’s voice at the moment, she needed to be alone, as Audrey, and Audrey were alone.
“Stop!!!” She screamed. She raised her hands to her face, forming them into fists, then with a mighty force, channeled all her anger into them.
“I said, stop!” She opened her palms and a fierce gush of wind enveloped the whole area, causing a mini-tornado, some branches even broke apart from the trees.
When everything calmed down, Audrey slowly opened her eyes, feeling kind of calm as she had let out some steam.
She was surprised to see a new clearing in front of her.
Out of rage, she hadn’t taken note of where she was when she had run angrily into the forest, but, looking carefully now, this was the exact part of the forest that always lured her.
She stared dazed at the now open space between the two huge trees, it had been covered by thick long branchy vines before, but, now, it must have been cleared in the fit of her rage.
She looked around her and listened for any movement, when she confirmed she was alone, she took cautious steps towards the clearing.
As she neared it, she felt like she was being hypnotized, like her body was losing its will to an invisible force.
Her legs moved forward, her eyes took in her surroundings, but, none of these actions were her own, a much stronger force was drawing her in from behind those trees.
Audrey tried to resist but she discovered it was of no use. She succumbed to the pull and walked slowly in between the trees.
As she entered, she would have exclaimed with all the swear words she knew, but her body was not hers at the moment, so could only look at her new environment with awe and disbelief.
Audrey’s movement paused and her body’s control was given back to her. But she knew it wouldn’t last, for she still felt some kind of force holding control over her body.
She decided to use this time to look around. From where she stood, three paths were lined by multicolored flowers, ranging from ones she’d seen before to the ones she’d never seen or heard of.
The first path to the center led straight to a free-flowing glittering river with a beautiful waterfall at the river head.
The waterfall fell from the small rocky mountain, the rocks were covered in green beautiful mosses and it flowed down to the massive body of blue sparkling water.
The second path to the left led to what seemed like an orchid of weird, scary, yet beautiful trees.
Trees she was sure only existed in ancient histories or something only the Disney productions could create.
They looked out of this world with their glowing fruits and large twisted leaves.
She knew they were real, she felt the calming wind and sweet but woody scents that came from the trees.
The third path, to her utmost surprise, led to a… Grotto.
