“Excuse us, Miss,” Alex told Janeth as he dragged Sandra to a corner and whispered something into her ear.
They returned, wearing big smiles on their faces.
“I’m sorry,” Sandra said.
“What?” Janeth asked, confused.
“We’re sorry for not believing. We’ve been deceived by that evil Catherine, and we couldn’t risk trusting anyone who posed as you anymore. We’re sorry, Audrey. Hug?” Sandra explained. She widened her hands to Janeth, inviting her in for a hug.
“Yeah, we’re sorry,” Alex said, beckoning her in for a group hug.
Janeth couldn’t believe her ears. She was silently celebrating. Her plan was moving faster than she thought, she just had to find a way to convince the Alpha that she was the real Audrey, then, she could fully commence on her mission.
“You, you guys believe me?” Janeth asked innocently.
“Yes, why not? C’mere!” Alex dragged Janeth into a group hug.
Janeth smiled evilly behind them, she was secretly planning her next step in her head, she didn’t believe these duo would be that easy to deceive. She didn’t care. It was all in her favor.
“Come on, let’s go to the hall,” Sandra said as she broke away from the hug.
“The hall?” Janeth asked.
She knew the hall Sandra was talking about, she was present at the Grand opening, but, she couldn’t tell them that.
If she was going to pose as Audrey, then she should live up to it.
Audrey had been declared dead by the time the building was commissioned, so, she had to pretend like she knew nothing about it.
“Silly, she wouldn’t know,” Alex said to Sandra.
“Oh, my bad, come on. It’s a big hall built by our Alpha and it’s being decorated for the party tomorrow.” Sandra held Janeth by the wrist and strung her along as she walked.
“Wow, it’s really big,” Janeth said, sounding surprised.
“It sure is. You like it?” Alex asked.
“I love everything about Alpha Lake!” Janeth blushed.
Sandra and Alex shared a knowing look. They knew Audrey would never say such a thing, and that only solidified their belief that the girl beside them was not their friend.
They had a plan, and until they had accomplished their goal, they wouldn’t expose her. They would string her on to the last minute.
“You seem to like the Alpha now, what changed?” Sandra asked cautiously.
“Um, nothing. I’ve always liked him. I love him.” Janeth said defiantly.
She had always viewed Alpha Lake’s and Audrey’s relationship like a love-hate relationship.
Since childhood, she knew Alpha Lake loved Audrey, but because of her busy body and jealousy, she had successfully severed Alpha Lake’s relationship with Audrey; However, one thing she knew she couldn’t sever was the love he had for Audrey.
She still saw it in the way he looked at Audrey, even though he was being driven by bitterness to treat her the way he had.
She knew the love was still there, and would always be. But she didn’t care, she was here to claim it.
That was why she chose this part. She was the right person for him to love.
Yes, she was an omega, but she was still better than that wolf-less bitch. If he could love the wolf-less Audrey, then he could love her too. She wasn’t going to step back till she had him.
She was happy the full moon coming soon, and she swore by the moon goddess that nothing would stop her from claiming what is rightfully hers!
“Audrey, are you listening?” Sandra asked loudly beside Janeth.
Sandra had asked her the same question for the third time but she just seemed lost in her thoughts.
“Oh, yes, I’ll help.” Janeth blinked back to reality.
Alex had left them and went to a corner to help some guys prop some things up. He watched Sandra and Janeth as they joined some girls to decorate the chairs and tables.
He kept staring at Janeth and couldn’t help but wonder who the girl was, he couldn’t wrap his head around the possibility of something or someone being able to clone Audrey to such an unimaginable extent. He was flawed.
If Audrey hadn’t revealed herself to them earlier at the training field, he would have believed the new girl without a second thought.
“Hey, man! Focus!” Someone yelled at him.
“Oh, sorry. Here!” He lifted a bucket of paint to the guy who was painting a ‘Welcome’ sign on top of a ladder.
“Hey, look! It’s Alpha Sebastian and Beta Andrew!” Sandra said excitedly.
She liked Alpha Sebastian, she got to get close to him because of Audrey.
She was the one who had introduced she and Alex to him, and, since then, they’ve become close friends with him.
She liked his personality; and aura, and she enjoyed his company. He was like a ray of sunshine on a dark cloudy day.
She wished their Alpha could be a little like that, even if it was just a quarter of it.
“Sandra,” Alpha Sebastian called.
“Good evening, Alpha Sebastian.” Sandra greeted cheerfully as he approached.
“How’s the preparation coming through?” He asked her, but Sandra noticed that he wasn’t looking at her as he spoke.
His gaze was fixed on Janeth who had backed them the moment Alpha Sebastian walked up to them.
“It’s coming on fine, Alpha Sebastian…”
“Who, is that?” Alpha Sebastian asked slowly, not paying attention to her reply.
“Oh! It’s Audrey. Audrey!” Sandra called gingerly, trying to sound as normal as she could without giving herself and her plan away.
Janeth gripped the ribbon tightly in her hands as she heard Sandra call her cheerfully.
‘Stupid girl!’ She cursed Sandra in her head.
She knew why she was calling her, but she didn’t want to be in that situation.
She knew Alpha Sebastian nurtured feelings for Audrey, and Andrew too. They all loved her. But she didn’t care, she only wanted Alpha Lake’s love.
She had never gotten along with Andrew and Alpha Sebastian, but now, she had to find a way to redirect their attention away from her.
She hoped Alpha Sebastian would doubt her genuity, that way, he would stay away from her, but if he believed she was Audrey, just like those stupid duo, then, she was done for.
She wouldn’t have the space and time to perform her mission as he would always find a way to be near her, in the name of wooing her to be his mate.
“Alpha Sebastian,” Janeth said with her mildest voice, trying her best to sound the way she imagined Audrey would sound.
“It’s really you!” Alpha Sebastian hugged Janeth tightly, his loud voice drew attention from all around the hall, making people pause and turn their heads to him… and Janeth.
Janeth knew at that moment that her mission was going to be a hard one, she had to find a way to stay away from the searching eyes of Alpha Sebastian.
She was angry that she was getting the right attention from the wrong Alpha. There must be a way out for her. There must!
“What happened to you?!” He released Janeth from his long hug, searching her face, smiling like a kid who’d just been gifted his favorite ice cream flavor.
“I-I, I survived.” Janeth blurted out, not knowing what to say or do.
She didn’t plan this part. How stupid of her. She never knew anyone would have the time to ask her what had happened to her and how she survived. She had no backup story whatsoever.
“Audrey?” Andrew called skeptically from a distance.
“Can you believe this?! She returned! Alive!” Alpha Sebastian told Andrew, still holding Janeth’s hand.
He was happy he could finally make her his mate. He was going to tell her how he felt about her after the party tomorrow, he wasn’t going to wait till the next full moon, he didn’t want her disappearing again.
“Oh, she did?” That Was all Andrew said before he walked away from them, meeting Alex.
Andrew knew in a second that the girl wasn’t Audrey. He had been the one to drop Audrey off outside the Pack’s border, he saw how badly injured she had been. If she was indeed Audrey, then, he expected her to have scars, heavy deep scars.
This was the reason why he still couldn’t conclude that Catherine(Audrey) was Audrey.
Catherine was as spotless as the full radiant moon, and that was to be impossible in the case of the real Audrey.
He had an inkling that this strange girl was formed from magic, and he also had a very strange feeling regarding Catherine.
“Hey, Cub! Walk with me.” Andrew said as he walked past Alex and his crew.
Alex gritted his teeth in anger and followed his Beta out.
“Yes, Andrew?” Alex answered as they stopped under an umbrella tree in front of the hall.
The weather was getting cloudy, it was spring and it looked like it was going to rain cat and dog anytime soon.
