“I’m sorry if I’ve asked the wrong questions. Goodnight.” Audrey drew herself away from him but he immediately drew her back to his side, spooning her.
“No, not that, kitten.” He put his nose on her neck and sniffed her.
He was starting to scent something different from what he did before.
Each time he sniffed her, it always felt like there was a repressed scent hidden beneath the flowery scent of hers. She intrigued him.
He wanted to know everything about this mysterious human in his arms.
“Catherine?” He called quietly behind her.
“Yes?” Audrey answered, wondering why he needed to say her name; she was right in front of him, gummed to him.
“I’m a wolf.” He said calculatelively, gauging her reaction.
“Yeah, and I’m a witch and a wolf too.” Audrey said calmly.
She knew he wouldn’t believe her, but, at least, she felt like saying it to get the secret off her chest.
By the time he would go ballistic when he finally finds out, she would remind him of this night. Maybe, this was not the night he found out about her.
“Come on, kitten, I’m being serious here. Fine.” He drew her closer and kissed her delicate neck.
“I’ll show you.” Before Audrey could say something, she felt his his fang graze her delicate neck.
“Mhm! What are you doing?” Audrey didn’t mean to, but a soft moan slipped from her lips.
“This is how we mark our mate,” He whispered to her neck, his strong voice sending shivers down her body.
“B-but, I’m not your mate, Alpha. I’m human too” She denied.
“It’s not your place to decide, kitten.” He attacked her neck again, sucking and licking the part where he would place his mark.
Audrey was going to play along with him, she would act oblivious to his news of being a werewolf and all.
She unconsciously pushed her soft cheeks into his hard member.
“What are we doing, Alpha?” Audrey asked, breathless.
Alpha Lake was loosing it. His control was hanging on a thin line.
He was very tempted to sink his fangs into her soft delicate neck.
And she would know then, that she was his.
Damn it.
He imagined what it would feel like to sink his teeth into her neck while he pounded his hips into her sweet honey pot.
“Fuck, Audrey!” He held her hips in place, afraid he might hurt her if he acted on the way he and his wolf felt at the moment.
Audrey went still. She heard it right. Even as it was a whisper, she would never mistake her name. He called her… in his time of ecstasy, what could that mean?
“I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I’m not Audrey. Guess it wasn’t just hatred between you too, huh?” Audrey detached herself from him.
She went over to the other side of the bed and relaxed against the headboard, hugging a pillow to her chest.
“Shit! No, kitten. That was a mistake. Fucking bitch.” He muttered the last part to himself.
Audrey just sat still, million possibilities running through her mind.
How could he make that kind of mistake? She knew the depth of hatred she felt from him a year ago; and she knew it was impossible to let her name slip through his lips as a mistake. There was definitely something she had missed.
“Okay, i believe you’re a wolf. That explains the Alpha everyone calls you. But,” She looked into his eyes to read his reaction.
He wasn’t going to lie, he expected her to freak out to him being a wolf, but she took the news rather calmly.
“Have you ever thought, maybe, you hated her so much that it turned to love?” She asked, holding his stare.
“What?! No! Listen kitten…”
“You don’t have to tell me that. It’s your personal matter.” She faked being uninterested.
“Hey, listen carefully. I’m going to summerize everything to you.” He shifted closer to her and copied her position.
It was going to be a long night!
“I was sixteen when my parents died.” Alpha Lake started.
Audrey listened carefully.
“My Mom was murdered by Audrey’s Mother. My mother, Luna Aurora had gone in search of Audrey’s mother who had been banished from our Pack, for killing her mate,” He adjusted himself comfortably.
“Audrey’s mother had begged her to take her child with her, to give her child a Pack and a better future, and my Mother agreed, but it seemed like Audrey’s mother didn’t really want to part with her daughter; she just wanted to lure my mother out to the forest to so she could kill her. She was probably angry about her bannishment, so, to get her revenge om my father; she shot my mother with a poisoned arrow,”
“No-i mean, oh, thats sad. Im sorry for your loss. Did she die at the spot?” Audrey was testing shallow waters.
She had wanted to disagree with his story, but she remembered that, to him; she knew nothing about what he was talking about.
“No. She had gone with a gurad who had helped carry her and the baby back. But that witch went scott-free, and my mother died; my father followed his mate soon, after the war with the witches.” He spoke animatedly.
“I’m really, really sorry. You really went through a lot at such a young age. It must’ve been hard to take over the Pack at sixteen.” Audrey sympathised genuinely.
She knew he was talking based on the information he was fed. He didn’t know better.
“Want to know something funny?” He chuckled.
“What?” Audrey asked.
“I never knew Audrey was the child of my mother’s murderer untill her 7th birthday. Before then, everyone liked her,” He paused and sighed, rubbing his palm over his face.
“Me too.” He scratched the back of his head like he was shy to admit wbat he just did.
Audrey was astonished.
He liked her? How come she didn’t have any friendly memories of him, perhaps she had been too young to remember.
“Woah, um, so-h-how did you find out about her mother?” Audrey managed to ask, she was still shocked from the information she just learnt.
“Everyone liked Audrey. Andrew, Alpha Sebastian, Janeth. We were always together. We never made her feel as though she was a maid; that was how Janeth knew the boys cherished Audrey more than we did her.” He paused.
Audrey watched as his eyes glazed over. She knew someone was mind-linking him.
“Whoa! What was that?” Audrey asked, pretending to be astonished.
“It’s a mind-link, kitten. Andrew is my beta. He just told me that he was done checking the Pack borders for the night. We know we didn’t eradicate all witches, so we are always on the watch for them. They’re not welcome here.” He explained.
“Ah, okay.” Audrey didn’t know how to reply as she felt attacked by his statement.
“So, Janeth became jealous because the boys had a crush on Audrey?” She asked, wanting to know everything.
“She was so happy when i announced to the Pack that Audrey should be treated like a slave. She thought i would start to like her then, but, she was wrong. I never looked her way, not once. No body did.” He brought out his phone and showed Audrey a picture of four teenagers standing in front of the Packhouse.
“This is me, Alpha Sebastian, Andrew, and Janeth.” He gave his phone to Audrey.
She zoomed the picture and she saw a girl standing farther away from the gang. It was her; she was staring at them with such longing, she looked lost.
“And this must be Audrey, right? This must be after you declared her an enemy… right? She looked lost. And, why does Janeth’s hair look funny here?” She pointed at the phone, showing him the picture.
Alpha Lake was surprised at her finding. For years, he’s had the picture but he had never noticed Audrey standing behind them.
He could not explain it, but he felt a sharp pang in his chest. He didn’t want to believe it was what he thought, he was over that the moment he declared her the enemy… right?
“Yes, that is Audrey. It was hard for her to stay away from us. I admit it was brutal for her, but she deserved it.” He stated.
“Janeth; janeth knew i liked Audrey, when she learnt Audrey will no longer be with us, she was excited, she started doing everything possible to look like Audrey but she could never be Audrey. No one can. She had something about her that no one could immitate.” Alpha Lake didnt know he sounded conflicted.
“Um, I think you loved Audrey too much, And you still do. You were probalbly hurt wjen you learnt about her mother. You were hurt, you didn’t hate her.” Audrey didn’t even know what the hell she was saying, she was just saying what Avery told her to say, she knew for sure that Avery was just trying to say soothing words to her mate and find ways to draw them closer.
“I would never love her, Catherine. She didn’t have a wolf; she was nothing but a weak human.”He said.
“If she had a wolf, would you love her?” She asked, an atom of hipe blooming within her.
She knew she was asking for her heart to be broken, at least his answer would determine her actions with him from here on.
“Not a chance kitten. Even if she was the last she-wolf on earth; I’ll never love her, what she got was what she deserved.” He stated in a final tone.
Audrey’s wolf was broken at his reply. Audrey was hurt too, but she already knew his answer before he said it. She was glad Avery heard it directly from him, at least now, she would understand why they should focus on their mission and get away from here fast.
Audrey was done for the night, but, she wanted to see if he would be man enough to own up his wicked acts.
‘Come on, tell me you locked her in a dungeon and sent your guard to kill her.’
“Honestly, I had no idea, kitten.”
‘Liar!’
