That wasn’t at all the reaction she expected.
“How about we make a deal, Kitten?” He proposed, gently putting her hair behind her ear.
He didn’t know came over him, but he didn’t care anymore.
He knew what he was about to say would be a shock and a surprise to her, and anybody who would ever hear of it.
But, he. Did. Not. Care. He was going by his instincts.
He had ignored it enough, it was time to admit to himself that he did not have a problem with Catherine(Audrey), and if she was really his mate, he might as well try to find a middle ground with her.
He haven’t been the best partner so far. It was time he changed it. At the end of the day; he was the one caving in.
“What deal?” Audrey asked, raising her cute brow.
“Cuddle me tonight and…”
“Hell no!” Audrey said flatly. Cutting him off completely.
She could not believe her ears, there was no need letting him finish the nonsense he was about to say.
She admitted that she had been carried away earlier in the kitchen, but now? No! She wasn’t letting him lure her into sleeping with him tonight.
“Calm down, little kitten. Hear me out.” He peck her cheek and lifted his weight off her.
Audrey was about to stand up and walk away but he drew her to his side, wrapping his arms around her.
They sat together in silent for sometime; each secretly basking in the other’s closeness.
Audrey was wondering what had gotten over him tonight, he was being unnecessarily clingy, and, that was out of character for him.
“What i wanted to say was; cuddle with me tonight; and, I’ll answer every question you ask. Anything at all you want to know… I’ll answer completely to you tonight.” He spoke calmly, caressing her hair as he did.
He knew he should not be taking this step, but since the incident in the kitchen, he was sure there was something more to them than just carnal lust. He wanted to find out where these feelings led.
Audrey thought about what he just said. This was an opportunity to hear his own side of the story; she was indeed curious about all thst happened today.
She wanted to know why that Janeth girl was trying so hard to look like her, and what she said about Andrew and Alpha Lake having feelings for her. She knew it was impossible for the Alpha to have feelings for her, but in every rumour, there must be an atom of truth.
“Okay.” She agreed. It was just cuddling anyway, cuddling never hurt anyone.
And, she was giving her wolf what she’d been dying for from the very beginning.
“Come on… I don’t bite.” Alpha Lake said, patting the space beside the bed he was lying. Audrey eyed him and the hed suspiciously.
They were inside her room and Alpha Lake was currently lying on her bed. He had excuses himself to take a quick shower, now, he was back, right beneath the cover.
She knew he had promised it was just cuddling, but she didn’t trust him and she didn’t trust herself either.
If her boss had not called earlier, interrupting them; she was wondering if they might have done it in tje kitchen, on top of the counter. She sighed and reluctantly climbed on top if the bed, putting a distance between them as she lay.
“Can i start now?” She asked, folding her hands on top of her chest.
“Hey!” Audrey was surprised to see herself beside the Alpha, and her head, on top of his clothed muscular chest.
Audrey didn’t expect him to suddenly draw her to his side like that.
“Now, this is cuddling.” He kissed her head and wrapped his arms around her.
Regal was so excited, and feeling over the moon to finally hold his mate in his arms. He hopped around in Alpha Lake’s head, encouraging him to do more than just cuddling.
But he was being successfully ignored by Alpha Lake.
Audrey stayed still. Her heart was somersaulting in jer chest.
‘What has possessed this man?’
If someone told her one year ago that Alpha Lake had this cute and clingy side to him; she would look at the person as a retarded imbecile. But she was witnessing first hand, and, she kinda liked it.
“What do you want to know, kitten? But before you start, i dont want you speaking to Russell ever again. Do you understand?” He wanted to put every other man in the statement, but he held himself back, he didn’t want to seem too forward with her.
If he would have his way, he wouldn’t want her speaking to any other man ever, except himself, but, baby steps first; he would tackle it as it came.
“Who is, or should I say; Who was Audrey to you… to the people?” Audrey asked quietly.
In as much as she knew the answers to most of the questions she would be asking; she still felt a little emotional, getting to hear it directly from the horses mouth… wolf’s mouth.
It was about her after all; and, no one liked to hear people talk bad about them, no matter how hard they try to pretend.
“Just like i thought… You asked about her first.” He chuckled lightly,
“Just answer already,” Audrey said.
“I don’t blame you, kitten. I would too if i were in your shoes. But…”
“You’re delaying; was she your ex?” Audrey purposely said that, gauging his reaction.
“Far from it, kitten; she could never be.” And he didn’t disappoint.
She felt the hatred in his tone, but, she didn’t want to admit it, but she also felt something mixed with the hatred… she could be wrong, but she was sure she heard right… longing?
“Then what was she? The Audrey that everyone seems to hate and despise so much? And what did she do to gather so much enemies in one city?” She questioned.
“Audrey, was my servant.” Alpha Lake sounded strange as he spoke of her.
“She used to live amongst us, and she was always landing herself into trouble with people…” He paused, and looked at Audrey.
He felt weird talking about Audrey to Catherine(Audrey), he felt like it was Audrey that was lying on his chest and he was busy telling her about herself and the reason why he hated her. He felt like he was doing a confession.
“Just the people?” Audrey asked. Why did she feel like he was trying to avoid talking about his past relationship with her.
“She did get herself in trouble with me too, multiple times.” He continued.
“So, um; I’m gonna ignore the facts that the people in this part of the world still use people like slaves; so, I’m just gonna ask… What did she do to draw such an immense hatred from you and everyone.
It’s sure not just because she was just a servant who failed to do things now and then?” Audrey adjusted herself and lay on the pillow beside him.
She didn’t want to be in contact with him as he told her the reasons why he hated her with such passion, he hated her more than she hated Enissa, her witch sister.
“She killed my mother,” Alpha Lake said bitterly. Pain could be heard in his voice.
Audrey’s heart broke in peices; he really thought of her as a murderer.
“She did?” She asked, just to confirm if he meant it.
“Well, not technically. Her mother, killed my mother. So, the sins of the mother was transferred to the child, since the mother went into hiding after committing such hideous atrocity.” Alpha Lake said.
“Oh, okay… You hated her for the sins of her mother; so, i know it must hurt to see someone whom her mother killed yours, and hers was still free and alive somewhere in the world…” Audre paused and smiled bitterly.
“How did you punish her on a daily base to assauge your rage, and, how did she even end up here and not with her mother?” Audrey laid on her side and propped her upper body with her elbow, relaxing her head on her palm.
Alpha Lake mimicked her position, facing her. He felt like Audrey’s questions were coming from a place of pain and bitterness, but he might be wrong. She might just be empathetic.
He watched her, she was flicking away invisible dust from her pillow, trying to avoid looking into his eyes.
‘If only you didn’t look like her, I’d have marked you a long time ago, mate.’ Alpha Lake was lost looking at her and didn’t notice when she started staring at him quizzically.
