The Grant family’s old mansion.
Matthew Grant deliberately came a few moments late, standing at the door and listening to the sounds inside.
As he expected, all the people from The James family who could arrive came, along with Jim Grant’s occasional complaints.
The engagement was supposed to be a two-party affair, and trying to stop it would not have been possible for either party to go wrong.
Jim Grant took a rare proper seat on the couch and watched with relief as the old man’s mood changed for the better.
He glanced sideways toward the door and was surprised to see Matthew Grant’s silhouette, and his breath hitched.
When did he get here? There was no telling how much he’d heard in there.
He cleared his throat and deliberately raised his voice.
“Brother, why don’t you come in when you’re here? What are you doing standing at the door?”
The eyes of a roomful of people gathered at the door, and Matthew Grant, with little emotion on his face, lifted his leg and walked in, deliberately sweeping over Lane James’ face.
“Uncle Lane, it seems we’ve been hitting it off lately.”
“Huh? Yeah, right.”
Lane James smiled dryly, his eyes flickering, moving his head away to look in another direction.
Although he had already discussed with the rest of The Grant family, he still felt weak in the face of Matthew Grant and didn’t dare to be looked in his eyes.
“Matthew, come and sit here.” Alan Grant pointed to the sofa over there, “Blanca didn’t come with you?”
“No, Alice can’t spend the evening without her.”
Matthew Grant sat down and looked around at the people, the thought deepened in his eyes, and finally his eyes fell on an unfamiliar figure.
He had asked Curtis Irwin to check out Adelina’s background today, and her involvement would only complicate things further.
“Well, since we’re here let’s get down to business.”
Jim Grant looked smug, with a provocative look in his eyes.
“My elder brother doesn’t agree with my marriage, and has secretly threatened Uncle Lane to cancel the engagement on his own initiative.
“Matthew, is it true what he said?” Alan Grant frowned, “This marriage I see it is very appropriate …”
Matthew Grant’s thin lips pursed, raised his eyes to look at the old man, his tone serious.
“Why should I agree? What benefit can The James family bring? Or on the basis that this time not only harmed Blanca, but almost brought The Grant family into the picture?”
“We have already explained that Shelly was hoodwinked by the employees around your wife.”
Adelina spoke quietly, without the slightest trace of weakness or cowardice on her face.
No matter what the truth is, the most important thing now is to keep the marriage with The Grant family, it doesn’t matter who takes the blame, as long as Shelly and The James family are innocent.
This is a trade of interest, who is right and who is wrong does not have any influence.
Matthew Grant narrowed his eyes, and his words were cold and threatening.
“I don’t accept this explanation. Did Adelina think a small employee could devise such a sophisticated plan, or could she find the right information about the business in such a short time?”
“This …” Adelina clenched her back teeth, suppressing the anger in her heart, “President Grant, can I understand that you are giving a hard time to The James family and The Jacques family?”
“No, I just don’t accept that explanation, it’s not fair to The Grant family, or my wife.”
The words destroyed what little sense there was in Jim Grant’s head, and the indignation and resentment burned him out.
He snorted, his face full of disdain.
“Who is in charge of The Grant family, anyway? You, Matthew Grant, have only been in charge of Empire Group for a few years and you really think you are the owner of The Grant family?”
