Chapter 103
The text
Chris’ POV:
I was having a solemn drive from work. It was a time that I use to ponder and think about life and everything that is happening in it.
My contract with Megan and the agency, is soon coming to an end. I will probably be back to being a travel writer.
I am only lost in thought as I wonder how my life is going to be because after working with Megan, my life took a drastic turn.
But then, I am so worried about Megan. She is carried away with getting justice.
I knew that she would be busy then, so I decided to drop a voice mail.
“Hey Megan, it’s Chris.” I started.
“I’m getting a little worried because I can’t reach you. I’ve been trying to call you all day, but your phone’s going straight to voicemail.” I told her.
“I just wanted to check in and make sure you’re okay. I got another one of those creepy messages, and I’m starting to get a little spooked. I just need to hear your voice and know that you’re safe. Please call me back as soon as you get this. I love you.” I said and dropped the call.
“Leave Megan alone or face the consequences.” This text dropped as soon as I dropped the phone.
“Who is this?” I asked as I went through it.
Someone was threatening me.
I stare at the mysterious text on my phone, my mind racing with questions. A sense of unease settles over me, like a dark cloud over my head.
My heart races with every passing second, and my thoughts are a jumbled mess. I feel like I’m trapped in a nightmare, with no escape from the feeling that something is off.
“What do they mean by ‘leave Megan alone’?” I mutter to myself, as I park the car to see clearly.
“Are they talking about my relationship with her? Have they been watching us? Following us?” The thought sends a chill down my spine.
I feel like we’re being stalked, like our every move is being monitored.
I got out of the vehicle, and I found myself pacing up and down.
I stop pacing and rub my temples, trying to ward off the growing headache.
“And who is this they anyway? Is it Miles? But why would he send me cryptic messages instead of?” I said and paused.
“No, no! It cannot be miles!” I said.
“Could it be the boss from the syndicate?” I thought.
“Unless… unless he’s trying to intimidate me. But why? What does he want from us? Is he jealous of our relationship? Does he want to hurt us?” I asked myself.
My thoughts swirl with fears and uncertainties. I can’t shake the feeling that something is off, that something is wrong. I try to push the thoughts aside, but they linger, haunting me. I feel like I’m walking on eggshells, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
“And what do they mean that?” ” I whisper, my voice laced with anxiety.
“Are they threatening me? Megan? Oh man, my head is spinning. What have I gotten us into? Have I put Megan in danger by being with her?” The thought is too much to bear.
” I feel like I’m responsible for her safety, like I need to protect her from this unknown threat. I told me.
I try to think back to any moment that could have triggered this message. Did we say something wrong? Did we do something to provoke this person? But nothing comes to mind. We’ve been careful, always looking over our shoulders, aware of our surroundings. Or so I thought.
I remember the first time I met Megan. She was beautiful, smart, and had a spark in her eyes that drew me in. We hit it off immediately, and I knew I wanted to spend more time with her. We started dating, and everything seemed perfect. But now, I’m not so sure.
I think about all the times we’ve gone out, all the places we’ve been. Have we been followed? Have we been watched? The thought sends a shiver down my spine. I feel like we have been living in a bubble, oblivious to the danger that may be lurking around the corner.
I need to talk to Megan, to make sure she’s safe. I try calling her again, but her phone goes straight to voicemail. I feel a surge of panic and decide to head to her place, hoping to find her there. I grab my keys and rush out the door, my heart racing with every step. The silence is deafening, and I can’t shake the feeling that I’m running out of time.
As I drive to Megan’s place, my mind races with worst-case scenarios.
“Has something happened to her? Is she in danger?” This ran through my mind.
I push the thoughts aside and focus on finding her. I need to see her, to hold her, to know that she’s safe. The uncertainty is suffocating me, and I can’t breathe until I know she’s okay.
I arrive at her place, my heart pounding in my chest. I knock on the door, but there’s no answer.
“Megan! Oh my God, I was so worried about you! I got this creepy message on my phone… but that is not the issue.” I told her as I felt relieved.
“I am glad that you fine!” I said.
“I am fine. What’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Megan asked.
“K feel like I have. This message was so sinister. I thought… I thought something had happened to you.” I said as I showed her the phone.
“I am sorry you got that message, because I did too but we are on top of it. Miles and I are going through the evidence we’ve collected so far. We’re getting close to uncovering the truth.” Megan revealed that was when I noticed that miles was there.
“Yeah, we’re making progress. This message is just a scare tactic. They’re trying to intimidate us.” Miles said as I felt uneasy with his presence.
“But what if it’s not? What if they’re serious? What if they’re watching us right now?” Megan was starting to freak out.
“We will handle it, Megan We’re in this together. We’ll figure out who’s behind this and put a stop to it.” I said as I held her comforting her.
“And we have each other’s backs. We’re a team.” I added.
“Okay… okay. I trust you guys. You’re the experts.” Megan said comforted.
“Good. Now, let’s get back to work. We have a lot to go through.” Miles told us.
We all sit down, and miles begins to explain the evidence they’ve found so far.
“And there have been this is the guy who’s been following us. We got his plate number and traced it to a rental car company.” Megan said.
“And we found a suspicious transaction on the company’s account. Looks like someone’s trying to cover their tracks.” She added.
“Who knows if he is the same person who sent the text?” I asked.
“He is!” Megan said and showed me evidence.
“You guys are like detectives! I must say!” I told them.
“I can’t believe how much you’ve uncovered already.” I added.
“We make a good team. And we are not going to let some creepy messages scare us off.” They echoed.
