Chapter 102
Boundaries.
Megan’s POV:
I can’t help but feel a sense of unease as I reflect on my encounters with Miles. At first, I thought he was just being friendly and charming, but lately, his behavior has been crossing a line.
His attempted kiss still lingers in my memory, making my skin crawl. I feel like I’m walking on eggshells around him, never knowing when he’ll make another move.
As I sit here, trying to make sense of everything, I can’t help but wonder how things got to this point.
I thought we were just friends, trying to get justice. But now, I’m starting to realize that Miles’ intentions may not have been entirely pure.
I think back to the first time we met, when I held the press conference that got Kayla and her arrest. After meeting up, we talked for hours, and I left feeling like I’d found a kindred spirit.
Over the next few weeks, we spent more and more time together. We went on our private investigations. I was having the time of my life, and I felt like I’d finally found someone who understood me.
But as time went on, I started to notice that Miles was becoming increasingly possessive and controlling. He would get jealous when I talked about Chris, and he would constantly text me, asking where I was and what I was doing. At first, I brushed it off as harmless, but as the behavior continued, I started to feel suffocated.
And then, there was the attempted kiss. We were at the party i went with Chris, and Miles had been drinking too much. He cornered me in the kitchen, his eyes glassy and his breath reeking of alcohol. I tried to push him away, but he was too strong. He leaned in, his lips inches from mine, and I felt a wave of panic wash over me.
Somehow, I managed to wriggle free and make a hasty exit. I didn’t see Miles for a few days after that, and I thought maybe he had finally gotten the message. But then, he started showing up at my work, lingering around the office, trying to catch my eye. I knew I had to take action.
As I sit here, trying to gather my thoughts, I know that I need to confront Miles about his behavior. I need to set clear boundaries and make it clear that his actions are not acceptable. I take a deep breath, gathering my courage. I know it won’t be easy, but I must protect myself and my relationship with Chris.
With a newfound sense of resolve, I stand up and make my way to Miles’ apartment. I know he’s been waiting for me, hoping that I’ll come around and give him another chance. But I’m not here to make amends. I’m here to make it clear that his behavior is not okay.
I knock on the door, my heart pounding in my chest. Miles answers, a smile spreading across his face.
“Hey, Megan,” he says, his voice dripping with familiarity.
“I’ve been waiting for you.” He said.
I take a deep breath and launch into the speech I’ve been rehearsing in my head.
“Miles, we need to talk. Your behavior has been unacceptable, and I need you to know that it’s not okay.” I started.
“You can’t just show up at my work or try to kiss me without my consent. That’s not what friends do.” I told him.
Miles’ smile falters, and he looks at me with a mixture of anger and hurt.
“What are you talking about, Megan?” he says, his voice dripping with condescension.
“I thought we had something special.” He said.
“We did, Miles. We had a friendship. But you’ve ruined it with your behavior. I need you to respect my boundaries and leave me alone.” I shake my head, feeling a sense of frustration.
“You’re not going to just dismiss me like that, Megan,” Miles’ face darkens, and he takes a step closer to me.
“I know you feel something for me. I can see it in your eyes.” he says, his voice low and menacing.
“No, Miles. I don’t feel anything for you. And even if I did, it wouldn’t excuse your behavior. You need to leave me alone and respect my relationship with Chris.” I stand my ground, trying not to show how scared I am.
“Fine, Megan,” he says, his voice dripping with malice as Miles’ eyes flash with anger, and for a moment, I think he’s going to lash out at me. But then, he seems to regain control, and a cold, calculating look spreads across his face.
“I will leave you alone for now,” Miles continues, his eyes glinting with a sinister intensity.
“But know this, Megan: I’m not giving up on us. I’ll be watching you, waiting for my chance to prove that we’re meant to be together.” He said.
“I’m not afraid of you, Miles,” I lie, trying to sound braver than I feel.
“And I’ll never give in to your obsession. Leave me alone, or I’ll have to take action.” I shiver at the implied threat, but I stand my ground, refusing to back down.
“I’m shaking in my boots, Megan,” he sneers. “But I’ll leave you alone… for now. Just remember, I’m always watching, always waiting.” Miles’ smile grows wider, and he takes a step closer to me.
With that, he turns and walks away, leaving me feeling shaken and vulnerable. I know I need to take action to protect myself, but I’m not sure what to do next.
But as I stand there, feeling scared and alone, I know I can’t do this by myself. I need to confide in someone, someone I trust. And the only person who comes to mind is Chris.
I take a deep breath and pull out my phone, dialing Chris’ number with shaking hands.
“Hey, babe. What’s up?” He answers on the first ring, his voice warm and comforting.
I hesitate, unsure of how to begin. But then, I take a deep breath and thought if I should it all spill out Mile’s obsession, his harassment, his threats.
Chris will be extremely angry to hear all of that happen, because he never lied to him, not one bit.
He warned me about Miles, but I never listen.
Oh, my goodness!
“I feel so alone, who do I talk to?” I thought as I broke down into hot tears.
“Jane?” I thought.
“No!” I opted out.
I think that would not be a good idea, I will be in my she’ll for a long time.
