After a few more licks, her scratches had officially disappeared and her palm was completely healed, which was a good sign. It created a warm flutter in my chest.
I glanced over to see Wayne’s progress then quickly looked away, feeling Dax try to push through upon seeing a bloody mess and split flesh. Even I felt the urge to go after him again, however, that’s because it seems he’s only making things worse and I just know this hurts her.
She won’t wake until she stops losing blood, and she won’t stop losing blood until he fixes any internal damage and closes up the wound, unless he isn’t fast enough and she doesn’t pull through.
The thought made me growl and I lowered my head over her chest to relax, placing all my trust in the doctor I chose. He’s been good so far, now his skills are truly being put to the test and I absolutely despise how it’s my mate’s life that has to test it.
‘We got her ! The others got away, but we have her !’ Blaine mind-linked and I felt huge relief lift a weight off my shoulders.
‘Lock her away. Use the cell underground so I’m sure she can’t get out,’ I answered, cutting off our link as I caught Gabbie and Whitney emerging from the trees.
I jumped up and went to check in on them to ensure they were alright, but I stopped in my tracks and looked down at Angel. I couldn’t leave her side like this.
Go, she’ll be fine, Wayne said without averting his attention from her. I felt guilty for even thinking about walking away and huffed, looking up at all the wolves that are laying in the grass watching him work on her.
They will not move until she is escorted elsewhere and placed in a safe, secure room. They’re doing it out of instinct to guard their Luna in case something else were to happen while she is vulnerable and exposed.
‘What happened ? Oh my god !’ Gabbie came rushing over with Whitney and everyone lifted their heads from the ground in alarm, watching them intently as they came running up to me.
Dax didn’t like how quick they were moving toward her body and I stepped over her, baring my teeth and snarling. They stopped a couple feet away with surprised eyes.
‘Calm down, Hoss,’ Gabbie replied and I reluctantly stepped aside, analyzing my mate’s figure then looking around to make sure nobody else was coming near her.
I walked in a circle around her, watching Gabbie and Whitney closely as they sniffed her face and whined, sharing looks with each other. My body went tense every time they lowered their heads to hers and I had to keep telling myself they would never hurt her.
Growling lowly, I circled around and stopped next to Wayne, lowering my head and watching him start stitching her wound. By the third poke, he cleared his throat and pulled my line of sight from her bloodied skin to his eyes. I raised my head to be level with his and he gulped by our close proximity, his hair moving slightly with each of my exhales.
With all due respect, sir, I need you to, uh, back up, please. You’re making me nervous and I need steady hands to reduce her scarring. I can’t focus enough with you standing so closely, he smiled, his words quavering, and I grumbled with a huff, fogging his glasses before turning and walking to the other side of her.
I continued to watch him until he finished, she will be fine, but it will take her longer to recover if you do not wish to give her blood. It’s entirely up to you, he added.
What kind of idiotic statement is that ? I’ll give her everything she needs and everything she doesn’t.
He must’ve realized his idiocy because he gathered his supplies and picked up the box, I’ll see you momentarily, he bowed, turning and walking back toward the hospital.
Everyone stood from their spots and gave me a nod, walking off after I acknowledged them at the same time loud footsteps came thumping this way.
We’re here ! Blaine shouted, making me do a one-eighty to see he and Danny met up with the girls and fluffed their heads.
I narrowed my eyes at Danny for touching my sister in such an affectionate way, flickering my gaze back and forth between the couple next to them in comparison. That’s when pieces slowly clicked into place at the similarity.
They’re acting like the mated couple next to them, which can only mean one of two things : they’re suddenly very close friends despite the fact they hated each other our entire childhood, or they found out they’re mates.
I’m sure I can guess correctly on which one that may be.
Walking off, I went behind a tree and shifted back, untying the shorts from my calf and sliding them on before walking back out. They looked at me and I ignored them, reaching down and carefully scooping my human off the ground.
What happened to her ? Whitney asked, peeling my attention off of Angel and onto her. She was now in human form as well, wearing Blaine’s oversized shirt. They held each other and stared at their her, deep frowns on their faces.
The problem has been resolved and it won’t happen again, I replied, standing up and adjusting her body so her wound wasn’t irritated with friction.
I started walking away but threw a look over my shoulder at Danny, oh, by the way, I know you and Gabbie are mates, I shrugged, watching everyone snap to look at me like they were deer in headlights, I’m not stupid, guys, observation was a huge piece of my training. Plus, you were never any good with secrets.
I turned and continued walking, not bothering to stop as I added, just don’t hurt or upset her-you don’t have to worry about what I’ll do to you, you’ll have to worry about what she’ll do to you. I won’t have to do a damn thing.
Pushing the doors open, I carefully entered and approached the receptionist, Brooke.
She lifted her head from the computer and smiled gleefully, not once looking at the beautiful girl in my arms. That alone irritated me, Alpha Axel, hi ! You’re here for Wayne to follow up a last minute rapid surgery, right ? She gushed as if that sentence was supposed to be cute.
My mate’s surgery, yes, I answered, placing emphasis on the word that made her mood falter and mine brighten.
‘Show some respect, stupid slutty receptionist,’ Dax muttered in annoyance.
‘Chill. She probably doesn’t want to jump to- I stopped myself short, seeing her unnecessarily lean forward and pull at her shirt, so I glued my eyes onto hers and withheld a growl.
‘Sluuuuuuut !’ He sang.
‘I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt,’ I sighed in response, ‘you know I don’t insult people who don’t deserve it.’
He will take you in room one, sir, she purred in a soft moan, biting her finger then sliding it down her chest. I maintained eye contact, scowling in distaste as Dax retched loudly in the back of my mind.
Trust me, you’re not worth the attention you’re desperately trying to get, I commented, walking past her desk and toward room one without waiting for her reaction.
I laid Angel down over the bed and adjusted her in what looked like it’d be a comfortable position, holding onto her hand and caressing the hair out of her face. Her breaths were tiny and shallow, but it made her so much more cuter.
I think I was finally coming down from my adrenaline rush over what happened.
My girl is okay and I have her poor excuse of a mother in lockdown. Angel can decide what is done with her, until then she will rot in a cell where she’s shackled to the wall. Hopefully she dies of dehydration, so it can be labeled not my fault nor my problem.
Alpha… Wayne entered the room with a frown, looking down at the stack of papers in his hand, now that we’re secluded, I think there’s something you’ll want know. It’s about my last visit with the Luna.
I stiffened, is she okay ?
