Yes, I smiled. Jayden ran into her for a hug and she laughed, patting his back and looking down at him.
Did you say hi to your sister this time ?
I froze as did the boy. He looked up at his mother with wide eyes then moved his gaze to me.
Didn’t you know ? She asked, her smile no longer feeling welcoming. It felt devious, I’m the woman your father is currently married to ! Isn’t that one hunter your mother ? She tapped her chin and everyone around us stopped talking, causing the room to go extremely silent as they all turned to stare once again, only this time Axel’s parents did as well with the same horrified expressions everyone else wore.
Oh ! I should’ve kept that to myself… she covered her mouth, I’m sorry, she frowned, though it looked like she was trying not to smile.
She was not sorry.
You’re the reason we’re dealing with hunters ? We’ve never had this problem before ! A random girl screamed from somewhere across the room.
Who says she’s not working with them ? A spy on the inside ! Another chimed in.
She’s corrupted Alpha Axel already ! We have to stop her !
I looked around at the second familiar voice and saw Carly heading toward me. My eyes widened and I stepped back into the wall, my body growing heavier each passing second and I struggled to remain standing. All I wanted was to hit the floor and shield myself to the best of my ability from their planned attacks.
You don’t touch her ! Jayden screamed, stepping in front of me with his fists held up in warning. His friend ran to his side and copied, nodding in agreement.
There’s an exit right behind you, I’ll stall ! Jayden was looking up at me as he whispered loudly. I knew everyone had heard him but I turned and found the door anyway, shoving it open and dashing outside.
I glanced back, my panic rising after seeing Carly followed. I ran faster toward the building in the distance, knowing that was my safest bet, and arrived as quickly as possible. I yanked the steel door open, seeing she was quickly catching up to me.
I ran in without time to close the door and bolted to the end of the hall, slamming into the cell with zero depth perception and I heard a loud, startled curse.
The fuck ! What are you doing ? Are you blind ?
She’s trying to kill me ! Help, I pleaded, hearing the door slam close at her entry that now left me trapped.
I’ve had enough of you, little human ! She screeched through the halls, her shrill voice echoing through each cell and I kept trying to rip his door open.
The only light in this entire building was the singular bulb by the entrance door and the few windows scattered around, very few of the cells still had functioning lights and it was getting darker outside, making it very dark in here.
You’re not going to get it, Calix replied calmly, can you two go somewhere else with all that yelling and shit ? I was trying to sleep.
Calix ! I was close to tears and movement was heard from inside his completely black cell.
Turn around, he ordered. I did, yet began to panic when I felt his hands reach through the bars and keep me in my place tightly. His grip was painful and I squirmed, feeling him pull my back against the cold metal then whisper, just trust me.
Axel Moretti’s POV
I wish I could speak to her right now. I just feel incomplete not being able to respond.
‘What the fuck is taking you so long ?’ I mind-linked Wayne, gently nudging her with my snout to keep her awake and she winced. Fortunately, she kept still and breathed to the best of her ability.
Just hold out for me a little longer, love.
You’re strong-my strong girl.
‘I’m gathering supplies. It’d be too dangerous to move her because of her size, she can’t risk losing too much blood or we will lose her. Just keep distracting her from the wound, I’m working as quickly as I can,’ he replied.
I cut off our link to focus on blocking her from seeing the injury, otherwise she’d panic and make it worse. It’s best she doesn’t know, that way she will remain calm to prevent anymore blood loss and damage, and it’s best I remain calm for her. I’ve never struggled so much in my life.
Please don’t leave me, she wheezed, her voice breathy and I absolutely despised how weakened she sounded, please, I’m so sorry, she wept lightly, don’t leave me, she sniffled.
I nuzzled closer as if to tell her I’m not going anywhere and she squeezed tighter, you’ll… you’ll make me better… w-won’t you ? You always m-make me… better.
She seemed to be starting to fight for her sentences and I felt my hackles raise, a foreign coldness pricking my chest. I couldn’t see her face due to it laying over my neck and it took everything in me not to move her to look, knowing she may become startled at the sudden movement and move the blade embedded in her abdomen.
Words can’t describe how pissed off I am at my parents, but now is not the time to deal with them. She’s my priority, and making sure she’s okay comes before everything. I was stupid to have trusted them and they will not be getting away with this.
Please don’t leave me, I’m sorry. I love you, she cried, I’m so sorry… it’s my fault. I love you, I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to hurt anyone… I caused this… I’m so sorry. I love you, p-please stay with me, she sobbed.
Her desperate pleas were like a bullet in my lungs and it was unbearable listening to, especially with her strained voice. I promised she would never be hurt again, and she is…
Dax was crying loudly for her and I wasn’t sure what to do. She was losing more blood by the second and it stung my senses. Every second that passed, I felt our bond grow weaker alongside her heartbeats and it’s making me go insane. I’m completely helpless.
I think… I think I’m okay now, she whispered so lightly I almost missed it, it doesn’t h-hurt anymore. I-I’m okay… she sniffled, not even a second later her grip loosened and her body lost all its tension.
I panicked, no longer caring about her seeing the blade, then I got up and nudged her face with my nose. She was extremely pale and I whimpered, hating how awful this sight of her made me feel. I’ve never felt worse, and to feel our bond gradually tear away felt like all my insides were being ripped out slowly.
I’ll have to work fast, Wayne’s voice filled the air and I whipped my body to watch him approach, snarling as he dropped down on the other side of her with his box of supplies.
Dax didn’t like how close he was to her injured, unconscious body, but I refrained from making a stupid decision and allowed him to cut her shirt around the wound.
He efficiently cleared the area and grabbed onto her stomach in preparation to remove the blade, except I couldn’t control myself when he pulled at the handle and I snapped my jaws at him.
He retracted his hands rapidly and met my gaze, reminding me that I needed to take control for her sake. It was hard keeping Dax away from his instinct to protect her, and he doesn’t want anyone near her when it’s a matter of life or death. He’s not logical, I’m his logic, and he’s a hard one to tame when it comes down to me versus his instincts.
He watched me lower my head and shift my attention to her face, granting him the access he needed to help her. Dax will lose his shit if I tried to watch, so I laid next to her and gently licked her face to remain distracted.
Her unmoving reaction tugged at my heart and I whined, wishing nothing more for her to turn away and laugh like she always has whenever I licked her face.
I extended my paw to her hand but came to a halt, noticing her palm was bleeding. I reached down and grabbed her wrist with my teeth, gently pulling it closer where I comfortably licked her wound to prevent infection.
She’s so delicate… I love it, yet I hate it.
