Axel Moretti’s POV
Her soft voice hazed my brain as her words whirled around my head and made my wolf whine restlessly. I was so overwhelmed by everything she had just told me, it was hard to decide what I should be feeling, and frankly, there were too many emotions I was flipping through that was preventing me of having the capability to properly respond.
I’m so angry, sad, and lost.
I want to rip everyone who ever even looked at her wrong into pieces. It enrages and saddens me knowing she was so carelessly mistreated as if she isn’t the only girl in the world to look, feel, and act the way she does, let alone be seen as a living being. If anything, she’s the most remarkable girl I’ve ever met, and nobody will ever come close to being her. She’s so perfect, it feels almost wrong to touch her because I fear I’ll contaminate her.
I don’t know what to do for the first time in my life. I know what I want, and need, to do, but I also know what she wants me to do, and they’re on opposite ends of the spectrum.
Looking down at her, I realized she was asleep. Her body was always light, which made it difficult to pin-point when she was deadweight and when she wasn’t.
‘Blaine, Danny, be in my office by the time I get there,’ I linked, unable to pry my eyes off of her beautiful sleeping face.
She always looks so worried and I’m not sure she knows it, yet when she sleeps her features fall neutral and really emphasize her beauty. I’ll never point it out though, because that alone will make it worse, besides, if she still appears distressed, it means she still feels that way somewhere in her.
I will do everything in my power to take away all of her worries.
With much struggle, I made the decision to lay her on the bed and stand up, except I felt terrible knowing I was about to leave her again and I couldn’t seem to move from my spot.
‘Change of plan, come over.’
‘I’m liking where this is going,’ Blaine replied flirtatiously and I rolled my eyes, withholding a growl.
God, I seriously hate him sometimes.
‘Dude, you just made me holler out laughing. I thought I was alone but I wasn’t, Ray’s kid is now crying for dear life cause I scared the shit out of him,’ Danny responded and I facepalmed.
They’re idiots, and I mean serious, in need of mental help, catastrophic idiots.
‘Why didn’t he teach him about mind-linking ? I’d shit myself too if a grown man suddenly started laughing for no apparent reason. He will officially be afraid of you for the rest of his life.’
‘Just wait until his wolf starts talking to him !’ Danny wheezed in a fit of laughter.
‘He’s not teaching him because he might not ever be able to mind-link,’ I snarled at them, interrupting their conversation and taking a deep breath before I said much crueler words, then the expected, yet dreaded, mind-link popped in my mind right after.
‘I apologize for disrupting you, Alpha, but I need to have a word with you about your Delta.’
Great…
‘Now would be best, I’m going to be talking to him if you don’t mind meeting me at my house,’ I replied, cutting off the connection just as I heard a knock on the front door.
I collected myself and left the room, quietly closing the door so her nap wouldn’t be disrupted and heading toward the front door. I opened it then stepped aside to let them in, go wait in the-
Wow ! I’ve never been in- I slapped my hand over Danny’s loud mouth, squeezing his cheeks to get a firm grip before pulling him closer with a glare.
My mate is sleeping and if you wake her up, I will end you, I growled lowly, feeling him nod beneath my hand so I released him and wiped my palm on my jeans.
I think I know why she’s sleeping, eh ? Blaine wiggled his eyebrows, taking a step back to get out of my reach when I snapped my glare onto him.
Don’t push it, I warned, hearing footsteps approaching the outside of the door so I turned and opened it, catching Ray with his hand up ready to knock.
You’re just in time, I stated, hearing Danny’s horror filled squeak behind me as he walked into view. I closed the door behind him and turned to face them, let’s take this to the back porch. I figured we would have this discussion inside, but seeing as how Danny can’t use his inside voice, we will be going out back so my mate can sleep peacefully, I shot him a look then started walking, earning another squeak before they proceeded to follow me down the hall.
What ? You’ve found your mate ? Congratulations, Alpha, Ray gave a bow, may I ask, when did this happen ?
Nearly a week ago, I shrugged, seeing his eyes bug out in shock through my peripheral vision. I then opened the door leading onto the porch and let everyone out, closing it behind me as they took seats on the chairs by the table.
Why haven’t you introduced her yet ? I’d love to meet her, and I’m sure everyone will be ecstatic that we now have a Luna, he replied, furrowing his eyebrows.
I don’t want to pressure her, I said, walking over and taking a seat as well, she’s very… I trailed off, attempting to find a word to describe her that doesn’t sound insulting, that’s until Blaine chimed in.
Fragile, skittish, sensitive, an-
I growled and he sunk in the chair with wide eyes, his face turning red as lips sealed in a thin, firm line to silence himself.
She’s human, I corrected, turning my attention back to Ray and watching his mouth fall agape, clear surprise taking over his features.
It was obvious to me that his reaction was quite bland because I was staring him down and he didn’t want to be disrespectful, but it’s also because he was once human as well.
You’re okay with that ? He asked cautiously, does this mean you’re going to turn her ?
I’m not changing her, I responded, feeling annoyance creeping up at his audacity to dare ask that, however, I kept my cool, if it’s what she wants, I’ll do it, but only if it’s her choice.
Of course, Alpha, he smiled nervously, lowering his head and readjusting himself in the seat.
And Danny, I announced, changing the topic entirely, you need to be respectful to Ray and his family. I really don’t want to have to send you to training academy.
He choked, sitting straight up in full alert as if I flipped his panic switch, hell no ! No, no, no ! I’m not going back there, bro, I completed them already ! The children in those courses are absolutely ruthless compared to when we were still going !
Then be more mindful of others, I crossed my arms and leaned back.
I can’t believe I’m talking to a grown man about mannerisms.
Unbelievable.
Yes, Alpha, he mumbled.
Before you continue, there’s actually something you need to know, Ray added, stealing my attention from the other two, I saw Calix leaving with Carly the other day.
Blaine shot up in his seat and Danny copied, their eyes widening as they instantly whipped to see my reaction to the news.
So… he hasn’t learned, has he ?
Clenching my jaw, I rubbed my chin to prevent myself from fulfilling the urge to snap his neck for even telling me such angering information.
I want him found and thrown in the cells before we carry out the attack. The hunters are too wounded to leave their current base, we have their location and status at all times. Calix’s whereabouts are unidentified, and if he’s as pissed as I remember, we need him found now, I demanded, not long after I heard sluggish footsteps from inside as her soft voice called out for me filled with sadness and slight panic.
My chest ached at her tone and I opened my mouth to excuse myself, however, the glass door slid open and everyone, including me, turned to see her wearing the shirt I recently took off with no bottoms.
My wolf didn’t like how her long, smooth legs were on display for everyone to see, but I kept him down just as I always have. He was even more on edge since her heat because he caught how Danny and Blaine reacted to it. I just can’t overwhelm her, so I need to continue to control myself.
But fuck, it’s so damn difficult.
She’s all I crave, from her delicate, pure heart to her smooth, sweet figure. I want to mend the missing pieces of her heart with pieces of my own, then I want to trace her skin with my hands and color her in with kisses.
I thought you left me, she frowned, her big, glassy hazel eyes filling with sadness.
My beautiful girl, I wish you would see just how much I adore you.
Her attention was so focused on me that it took her a moment to realize the three others, yet as her eyes landed on Ray, they locked into place. I noticed her body curl as she squeezed the hem of the shirt until her fists turned white, her bottom lip quivering and more tears filled her eyes.
