Which parents don’t feel sorry for their daughter? When Mrs. Protich first started working at North Bankshire, she learned that it used to be the Gentry Estate. Winifred Dawson’s father had already passed away. As for her mother, she didn’t know much about her situation. Winifred Dawson never mentioned her parents, and despite everything that had happened, her so-called mother never appeared. It was likely that they were either divorced or her mother had also passed away.
When Winifred Dawson went back in, the doctor had already received the ultrasound results.
“You’re quite healthy. Are you sure you don’t want it?”
Winifred Dawson shook her head. “I don’t want it.”
The doctor looked at Winifred Dawson’s file. She was 19 and would turn 20 in September, still very young.
The doctor didn’t try to persuade her further and said, “Think it over carefully. A three-month-old fetus might require surgery. Let me explain the procedure to you. There are risks involved with an abortion, and it will cause some damage to your body. If you’re sure, we can arrange for you to be admitted today. Here’s the surgical consent form; read it carefully and sign it if you agree.”
The doctor explained succinctly while holding the consent form, then asked if Winifred Dawson had any other symptoms.
“Doctor, I’m allergic to anesthesia. Will that be a problem?”
“Anesthesia allergies can be tricky. There are different anesthetics available on the market; we can test them slowly. We can’t perform surgery without anesthesia; that would be too painful.”
Winifred Dawson sighed in relief, worried she might have to endure the pain again like last time with just painkillers.
Seeing Winifred Dawson frowning, the doctor thought she was worried about the surgery.
In a comforting tone, the doctor said, “Don’t worry; there shouldn’t be any problems. After the surgery, make sure to rest well, avoid strenuous activities, stay in bed, eat nutritious food, and take your medication on time. Your body will gradually recover… In the future, if you get into another relationship, be more careful and use protection if you don’t plan on having children.”
“I understand. Thank you, doctor.”
“You’re welcome. Go ahead and complete the admission procedures. Eat early this afternoon and remember not to drink water after ten o’clock tonight. Got it?” The doctor patiently reminded Winifred Dawson of various precautions. “By the way, do you have someone with you?”
“Yes, she’s waiting outside.”
“Who is she?”
“My aunt.”
“What about your parents?”
“They’re both gone.”
The doctor’s expression changed slightly but showed a hint of sympathy in her eyes. What a life-parents gone, boyfriend deceased, and now pregnant.
Sensing the awkward atmosphere, Winifred Dawson stood up. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll go now.”
“Go ahead. After completing the admission procedures, go downstairs to test which anesthetic suits you.”
“Okay.”
Winifred Dawson folded the various forms and stuffed them into her bag before heading out where Mrs. Protich approached with concern.
“Did the doctor say anything else?”
“Just that I should eat dinner early this afternoon and not drink water after ten tonight. Now I need to complete the admission procedures for surgery tomorrow.”
“What about after the surgery? Are there any risks?” Mrs. Protich asked anxiously.
“It’s a minor surgery with no significant risks as long as I rest well afterward. There will be medications prescribed; I’ll need your help preparing nutritious meals.”
“Of course, I’ll make sure of that.” Mrs. Protich was still worried; she thought Winifred Dawson’s health was too poor for such a procedure without risks like heavy bleeding that could lead to infertility-a thought that made Mrs. Protich uneasy enough to consider seeking a protective charm from a temple.
Unaware of Mrs. Protich’s thoughts, Winifred Dawson completed the admission procedures and took Mrs. Protich out for breakfast.
Having spent all morning undergoing various tests without eating breakfast yet, both were hungry by ten o’clock in the morning. Fortunately, there were plenty of breakfast places near the hospital; they chose a decent-looking porridge shop.
Since she decided to stay in the hospital, they needed to prepare clothes and toiletries for her stay.
While standing by the roadside waiting for a taxi, a car suddenly pulled up.
The window rolled down to reveal Liam Burkhart’s face. She had only met him once before; their subsequent contact was through phone calls and messages.
Their first meeting had left a terrible impression on her; Liam Burkhart was far from being considered a good person in her eyes. Naturally, after their collaboration ended, she kept her distance as much as possible.
Seeing him here was unexpected for Winifred Dawson.
Liam Burkhart also looked surprised; this encounter was clearly accidental.
“Miss Dawson, long time no see. I’ve missed you.”
Ignoring him, Liam Burkhart asked with concern, “Miss Dawson, are you here for a check-up? Are you sick?”
“No illness. Can you move? I’m waiting for a taxi.”
No illness but hanging around outside a hospital drinking porridge? Bored? The more she ignored him, the more he wanted to get closer.
Besides being rejected by such a beautiful woman had its own charm.
“Where are you going? I’ll take you.”
