Chapter 83
The plan for the escape.
Lily’s POV:
“Wait!” The detective said as soon as we sought to leave.
“What is the matter detective James?” I asked him.
“I think I have got some news for you.” He told me.
“Okay, spill it!” I told him.
“Kayla, Lily…” He called.
“I have some surprising news.” Detective James told us.
“I hope it is good news!” I thought.
“Maybe we have been granted Bail!” I thought in excitement.
“After further investigation, we have found evidence that suggests you are not just innocent bystanders. You are actually the masterminds behind the crime.” He fired.
I looked at him in shock and trying to plead to see if I can be pardoned.
“What? No, that is impossible! I am the victim here!” I tried to make him understand.
“I was trafficked before I got here!” I said.
“But you were on the run, Lily… you only called the police because you had no choice than to do that!” He told me.
“However, we have found records of your secret meetings, your coded messages, and your cleverly hidden clues… apart from which Megan revealed!” Detective James told us.
“You two are the ones who orchestrated the whole thing.” He said pointing at the both of us.
“But… why would we do that?” Kayla feigned.
“Speak for yourself, Kayla!” I said rolling my eyes.
“It seems you both had a lot to gain from the crime. You, Kayla, you and Hailey stood to inherit a large sum of money from Chris estate.” He fired.
“That was one reason she wanted Chris to accept the fake child!” He told me.
“And Lily, had a personal vendetta against the victim. You worked together to cover your tracks and frame an innocent person, but no! It could not work.” Detective James carried on.
“You went on trying to tarnish her image by the asinine post you made when she revealed her relationship with Chris!” He went on and on.
Immediately he said that I felt my facade crumbling.
“But she lied about her relationship with Chris, it is fake!” I yelled.
“O have no business with her personal life! Besides, no one is going to believe you here, since you are the culprit!” He said and tried to leave.
“That is too fast! Come back please!” Kayla called him back.
“I guess we underestimated you, detective.” Kayla told him, smiling in a wicked manner.
“Yeah… I guess we did.” I seconded.
“Well, I am glad we could finally uncover the truth. You two are going down for this.” Detective James smiled triumphantly.
“It’s time to be in your cells girls!” He said and he left us finally.
We have been led to the cells when, Kayla cleared her voice, like she wanted to say something.
“Uhm!” She said when the warden looked towards her.
“Remember, you said I could talk to you if I wanted to talk yeah?” She asked when the woman looked at her and nodded.
“I hope you can let I and my friend into to the same cell room!” Kayla begged the woman.
“Hmm!” She sighed.
“Please!” Kayla pleaded when I wondered why she was begging.
“Fine, I will do that one favor for you both!” She agreed.
“I am a big fan, so why not?” She agreed and led us on.
“What was the meaning of that?” I asked her.
“Why did you do that?” I continued.
“Lily, I know we have been through a lot, but I think it is time we put our differences aside and work together.” Kayla revealed to me.
“We are in this situation together, and we need to rely on each other if we want to get out of it.” Kayla continued.
“So, this was all what you wanted all along?” I asked her.
“The last time I tried escaping it did not end well with me, so I do not think I will be going that route with you!” I told her.
“You got in that situation because I was not with you!” Kayla told me.
“I have all of this planned out! Trust me!” She told me.
“How do we go about that?” I inquired.
“We are handcuffs, in a police station. We are not going anywhere. And even if we could escape, why would I want to go with you?” I asked.
“You are capable of pinning this on me because you have been trying to pin this on me from the start!” I revealed.
“I know I wanted hurting you after your escape, but I realize now that we need each other for this!” Kayla told me.
“But I am willing to put all that aside and work with you to escape and clear our names.” She continued.
“What makes you think we can escape? We’re in a police station, surrounded by cops. And even if we could get out of here, where would we go? We are fugitives now. Our faces are all over the news.” I told her skeptical.
“Leave that to me, Lily. I have been watching, and I know the layout of this place. I know the guards’ schedules, and I know the security cameras blind spots.” She revealed and persuaded me still.
“We can make a run for it during the shift change, when the guards are distracted. And as for where we will go… I have a plan for that too. We’ll head to the safe house, where we can lay low and figure out our next move.” Kayla explained.
“Have you been planning to get arrested your entire life?” I asked her surprised with how she was able to come up with all of these.
“You have really thought this through, haven’t you?” I told her.
“But what makes you think it is going to work out? It definitely not going to be easy even with all you have got planned out?” I made her understand.
“Lily, I know I made mistakes, but this will be different from the rest, trust me!” Kayla said.
“But then, I realize now that we are in this together. And I promise you, I will do everything in my power to make this go well.” Kayla revealed.
“We will clear our names, and we will be happy ever after.” Lily envisioned.
“I do not care about clearing my name, but I know that I will be fine once I am outside this prison doors!” Kayla said.
“That is fine, Kayla. But do not try to trick me because if you try to trick me, I swear… ” I threatened.
“I am not trying to trick you, Lily. I promise. We are in this together, now. Let’s make our escape and start fresh. Together.” Kayla said smiling.
