Chapter 80
Trafficked.
Lily’s POV:
I could hear my voice is laced with urgency as I spoke to herself, “Come on, Lily, you need to get out of here. You can’t stay in this town anymore.” I glanced around nervously, her eyes darting back and forth.
I got off the seat and pacing through and forth, without knowing the next step to take or even where to go.
Just then, my phone rings, breaking the silence.
“Hello.” I hesitated for a moment before answering the call.
“Lily, it is Alex. I heard about Kayla’s arrest. What is going on?” The voice on the other end is laced with concern.
“Phew!” I exhaled.
Alex was my high school friend and partner in crime until we both lost connection with each other.
I wonder how he was able to get int of this arrest but that is the least of my worries now!” I thought
“Alex, I cannot talk here. I need to get out of town. The police are looking for me too.” I replied in a hush tone.
“Where are you? I can come get you,” Alex offered.
“I am at the old gas station on 5th and Main. But be careful, Alex. The police are everywhere.” My eyes scanned the entire area as I have him the address.
“I will be there in 10 minutes. Hold tight,” Alex assured me.
“Thanks, Alex. I owe you one.” I appreciate him as my voice was going extinct at that point.
A black tinted truck parked right in front of me, while I rushed to get in knowing fully well that it was Alex’s.
“What’s going on, Lily? What happened with Kayla?” Alex asks, his voice filled with curiosity.
“It is a long story, Alex. I’ll tell you when you get here. Just please hurry.” I said hesitant, unsure of how much to tell him
“Okay, okay. I am almost there. Just stay safe,” Alex says, his voice reassuring.
“I will. Thanks, Alex. I do not know what I would do without you.” I nodded even though he could not see me.
We drove throughout the night when Alex tapped me and told me that we had arrived.
“Where are we?” I asked him.
“We are in a new place and a new town!” He revealed.
“Wait… but you never told me that you were bringing me to a new place!” Alex told me.
“But you wanted somewhere safe, huh?” He asked as he got some stuff from the truck, and he led me into the house.
“This will be your new home for now… at least after the whole search will have died off!” He told me.
“I am so grateful, Alex! You have been more than a friend to me!” I said smiling.
“You are welcome, but I will leave you here because I need to make dinner!” He told me and left.
We had a lot of catching up over dinner and he told me all that happened, which made he stop communicating with me.
He was in the army but left due to the injustice.
“I know how that feels when you are been treated unfairly!” I told him.
“That is fine!” Alex replied.
“It is late, I think you should catch some sleep!” He said as I went up to the room to sleep.
The thought of the entire day ran through my head and how lucky I was to be able to get out of the city, before the police came.
I was still lost in thoughts when I slept off.
I woke up feeling a cold substance on my face.
“What is that?” I asked as my eyes went opened at once.
I could see Alex and another man, standing over my head with a bowl of water in his hands.
“What is happening here?” I asked as I sat up.
“Nothing!” Alex replied.
“Just the usual!” He said with a smirk.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked him confused.
“What is the usual?” I asked again.
“This man here owns you now, and you need to get up and follow him now!” He ordered me.
“Owns me like how?” I wondered.
“I sold you to him, so he can do whatever he wants to do with you!” Alex told me unbothered.
“Do not tell me that you are getting me trafficked?” I panicked.
“Is that why you were going eager to help me?” I asked him.
“Oh, my goodness!” I said.
“But you know what?” I asked him.
“I am not going to let this happen, I am going to call the police immediately!” I yelled at him.
“It is better that I go to jail than to be trafficked!” I said as I went around searching for my phone.
“You would not want to get tired doing that!” Alex said.
“This is your phone, and I am not going to hand it over to you… besides, it is so useless because I flushed your sim card down the toilet, so there is nothing you can do about it!” Alex said smiling wickedly.
“You son…” I said angrily as I rushed towards him.
“You need to save that energy for the chores that you have waiting for you!” The man spoke.
“You need to get going now, and do not plan to run away because no one can safe you here!” Alex said with no remorse.
“There are only two houses around here!” He added then I was led away to a vehicle that was waiting outside.
We went on a long ride, and it felt like we were traveling out the world, and I could not ask any question, because they were not looking nice either.
“Here!” The man offered me a bottle of water when we were halfway into the journey.
“Water?” I asked.
“For what?” I added.
“Can’t I get a snack or something, I am famished!” I told the man when he smacked me hard on the face.
“You should be lucky that I offered you water, when we get home, I would not be giving you water!” He said and hit me on the face again.
At this point, I knew that I had made the wrong decision of my life by conspiring against Megan and trusting Alex.
I am so lost, so alone. I feel like I’m drowning in this sea of despair, suffocating under the weight of my own helplessness. I have lost all hope, all sense of self. I am just a prisoner in my own life, a slave to Alex’s whims.
I try to hold on to memories of my past, of the life I once knew, but they’re fading fast. I’m forgetting what it’s like to be happy, to be free. I’m forgetting what it’s like to be me.
I don’t know how much longer I can keep going, how much longer I can survive this nightmare. I feel like I’m disappearing, like I’m vanishing into thin air. I’m a ghost of my former self, a mere specter of the person I once was.
Oh, God, please help me. Please rescue me from this hell. Please give me back my life, my freedom, myself. I’m begging you, please… please… please…
