OLIVIA’s POV
I have been looking forward to my 18th birthday since I was 15, mainly because I wanted to escape from my uncle’s house.
The thought of my 18th birthday kept me going because if I am lucky, I will meet my mate. Now that I am no longer in my uncle’s house, I do not know how I feel about it.
Today is my birthday, I am officially an adult, but it does not excite me anymore. Alpha Damon has been avoiding me too, he doesn’t want to see me, and each time I go to see him, he sends me back to my room.
I thought today would be the happiest day of my life but it’s no fun when Alpha Damon treats me with so much coldness.
I hate his attitude toward me but there is nothing I can do about it. I never knew he would have so much effect on me.
“Happy Birthday, Olivia” Zania’s voice brought me back to reality. I sighed and passed her a smile. She’d probably be the only person that would wish me a happy birthday today.
My uncle and his family have never celebrated my birthday before, Alpha Damon is also not in a great mood.
“Thank you, Zania” I appreciated. She examined me for a while before taking a seat beside me on the bed with a frown on her face.
“Are you okay? Today should be a day for you to be happy. What is wrong?” Zania asked. My life would have been boring without her in this tower.
She’s like the elder sister I never had because she takes care of me and looks after me.
“Nothing, just feeling a bit nauseous” Zania placed her hand on my head to check my temperature.
I have indeed been feeling a bit queasy, but that was not the reason for my mood swings. Alpha Damon is.
I am not even permitted to enter his room, and I barely see him outside. Thankfully, it’s a full moon. I might get lucky to find my mate tonight but, what do I tell Alpha Damon?
Will he let me go out of the tower? That thought has been lingering in my mind since he started sidestepping me.
“You don’t have a fever. Should I call the physician?” Zania asked. I shook my head in disagreement. “There is no need to call him,” I replied.
“Okay,” she paused. So, what do you want to do today? It’s a special occasion for you. Birthdays are not something that comes every day.
“I truly don’t know what I want to do aside from finding my mate,” I replied. A part of me desperately does not want to find my mate today because I want to be by Alpha Damon’s side all the time. What if he turns out to be my mate?
I absentmindedly scoffed at my impossible thoughts. There is no way she will match me, an omega with some so high above, like Alpha Damon.
I know that I do not affect him in any way, but I can’t help it. No matter how many lies I tell myself, I am attracted to Alpha Damon.
He made me attracted to him by treating me nicely, and now, he has withdrawn from me. The fact that I do not know the particular reason he is mad at me irks me even more.
“It’s a full moon, Olivia. How about going to the festive ground? You might find your mate too. It should not be hard for you to do that. It is also not something to weigh you down,” Zania assured.
“I can’t go out without Alpha Damon’s permission. He does not want to see me either,” I uttered inaudibly. Zania’s lips shaped into an ‘oh’
“I never thought of that. Does he know that you became an adult today?” she queried. I nodded my head in affirmation.
There is no way he would have possibly forgotten, right? He took me away from my uncle’s house on my birthday last year.
“I can’t stop imagining how he is feeling now. Will he let you go if you find your mate?” Zania probed. It was what we agreed on initially.
Having feelings for him was never part of the deal, but I did. No one has ever shown and treated me with so much love and care as he has until recently.
I fell in love with him because he treated me nicely. Instead of replying to Zania’s question, I stood up from the bed and made my way to the door.
It was still early hours into the afternoon. I could see the morning sun piercing through the little holes in the door.
I sighed and was about to turn the doorknob, but someone pushed it open before I could do that. I winced and took a few steps back as the door hit me on the head.
“I am so sorry. I didn’t know you were there. Are you okay?” I raised my head to look at the person with that familiar voice and it turned out to be Beta Luca.
Did I do something wrong? Why is he here? He would have been more gentlemanly if he had knocked on a lady’s door instead of barging in like that.
“I apologize for my behavior, I should have knocked,” he apologized as if he read my thoughts. I cleared my throat with a negative nod of my head.
“Good afternoon, Beta Luca,” both Zania and I greeted simultaneously. I didn’t know that she was already beside me until she spoke.
Luca nodded his head without saying anything. Is there a day that I will ever see him smile? Is he a stud? Or a tree?
“I have a message for you from Alpha Damon,” He pinpointed straightforwardly. My heart somersaulted at the mention of Alpha Damon’s name.
Did I do something wrong? Will I be forcefully removed from here? Being locked up is the last thing I want for myself right now.
“Alpha Damon has permitted you to go out of the tower. If there is anywhere you want to visit, this is a chance to do that,” Luca informed.
A sigh left my mouth, but it was not of relief. I was sad that he couldn’t come to me to deliver the news himself.
Does he truly hate the sight of me? With a nod of my head, I muttered, “Thank you” Luca bowed his head and left immediately.
The seconds he left, I staggered backward. “Are you okay?” Zania asked, supporting me with her arm. “I am fine,” I managed to reply.
“This is an opportunity for you, Olivia. You should go out and enjoy the festival. You might also find your mate there,” Zania advised.
Instead of staying here and thinking about what I did wrong or why Alpha Damon does not want to be anywhere close to me, the best I can do for myself now is to have fun.
“I am going out,” I pronounced.
Three hours later….
I looked around the empty square designated for the festival. Everyone was running to get home while I stood there, unable to move a muscle.
I barely managed to get here after stopping numerous strangers to ask for directions. Now that I am here, the cloud has become heavy, an indication that it’s going to rain in the next few minutes.
The full moon festival ended before it could start. I also did not achieve anything. I couldn’t perceive the scent of my mate, so he was nowhere around here.
Before I could gather my thoughts on what to do next, since the plan of having fun failed terribly, the rain began falling.
I raised my hands above my head and began running back to the tower with a variety of thoughts overcrowding my mind.
When I arrived, I was already drenched in the rain. Right as I was about to turn toward my room, my eyes met with that of Alpha Damon.
While I stood rooted to a spot, Alpha Damon’s gaze locked with mine for a moment, making me feel as if I was pinned and unable to move.
What baffled me more was not his icy gaze. He was with a lady. Someone I have never seen or bumped into since I stepped into this place.
The umbrella Damon was holding provided a shield for her. He paid no attention to his shoulder getting soaked in the rain.
I had the question of who she was in my head, but I knew I wouldn’t obtain an answer to that.
A feeling of jealousy crept into my heart as he slowly held her by the waist and drew her closer to himself with a smile on his face.
“Do you not know how to greet?” That was the first thing he said to me for the first time in a long time. He replaced the soft gaze he always has whenever he sees me with so much coldness that had me trembling even more.
He was not smiling at me, nor was he acting friendly. “Good afternoon Alpha,” I greeted with a shaky voice. My lips and hands were quivering from the cold.
He didn’t return my greeting. He stared at the lady with affection. The way he used to look at me until two months ago.
“You are here right on time,” he said and paused to make sure that my attention was with him.
“This is Hazel, my second chance, mate. Now that she is here, there is no need to keep you around, Olivia”
I felt a twitch in my heart after that statement came out of his mouth. Alpha Damon has found his second chance mate, and it’s not me.
