Chapter 76
Vain pursuit.
Megan’s POV:
Chris coughed uncontrollably until he was lying on the floor tired.
I was finding it hard to believe that Chris reacted to this naturally, because he probably knew that I hated this.
“Take this outside the house, else you will have me suffocate!” Chris told Lily as she stood staring at him reluctantly.
“Oh, never mind. I will help you do that!” Chris told the incense from her and discarded it.
“Chris, how are you pulling up?” I heard a voice Faraway.
“Do not tell me that there is another visitor in this house!” I said frustrated.
I wondered whom it was, but the voice got clearer and clearer and I got to realize that it was Jake.
Jake should not set his eyes on me here else I will be his next biggest story.
Jake’s has got such a loudmouth that I would not want to see him, so I need to device a way to leave.
“Jane, I think our time here is done. I should not get seen by this man; else we will get exposed!” I told Jane.
“The problem is not about leaving but how to leave without being seen by these two!” Jane told me.
“Yeah. I understand!” I said as I packed my head on what I was supposed to do at the moment.
“The fire alarm!” I said at once.
“It will get them all of the house then we can leave!” I revealed.
“Besides, we can all say that Lily incense caused it.” I told her in excitement.
“Fine… but no one is making any fire!” Jane said and went put on the fire alarm.
“Done!” Jane said as she got back when we heard Lily run out of the house.
“How funny!” Jane said as she laughed hard.
“I think we can just leave now!” She urged me.
“No, let is wait for the fire department to be here first… we do not want to be seen… remember?” I reminded Jane.
“Yeah!” Jane concurred.
“Now, when they get here… we will crawl into their truck then we can get out of her safely!” I explained to her.
Just according to how I planned, the fire department were around in few minutes, and they realized that they were no fire but just a little fire at the backyard.
But luckily for I and Jane, we were already sitting comfortably in the truck with no one seeing us.
“I can now breath properly knowing that we are out of that house!” Jane told me.
“And I am much happier that I have information to bring down Lily and her gang.” I replied.
We succeeded in finding out way back home but to our surprise, our home was where we left it.
It was on sitting on the ground, demolished!
Who must have done this… or have we been seen by those people? So many thoughts ran through my head, when I heard Asher call through the dark.
“Megan, I am here! Come!” He beckoned.
“What happened here?” I asked him.
“I do not know; I came here today, and I noticed that the entire building has been raised down!” Asher explained.
“Could it be that Kayla’s men found us?” I asked him.
“Because I have the feeling that they are the only ones who can pull this off!” I told Asher.
“Well, for now… we have no idea than to be calm!” Asher said when we saw a figure walking towards us.
It was a man.
“Now, you all hide while I know what he has gotten to say!” Asher said as he walked out the man.
He took out a badge and the conversed for something.
“Are you sure that he is safe?” I asked Jane as we both watched.
Asher was back and he was smiling when the situation clearly was not funny.
“What did he tell you?” I asked him.
“Nothing much, but I think it is high time that we stop panicking because they demolished the house! Because we were infringing!” Asher explained.
“Infringing… how?” I asked him.
“This is government property, I guess!” He said.
“Well, well, well Asher! This is not government property but my property!” Kayla said as she appeared from nowhere.
“Who are you speaking too, Asher!” Kayla said with her men all standing behind her, ready to take anyone who cares the down.
“No one, Kayla. I was only talking to my dog!” He told her as she stood unconvinced.
“Hmm, Asher!” Kayla said.
“You know you would not wanna go that route with me! Guys, search the entire place!” She ordered them.
“The entire place is clear!” They told her after some time.
“You are lucky, Asher!” She told him.
“But from now on, I have my eyes on you!” She said and took her leave.
“This place is not safe either!” I muttered as it caught the attention of Jane.
“Yes!” Jane replied.
“I am getting better now, it thinks it is time to expose them all!” I told her.
I have been hiding from Kayla for what feels like an eternity. Her grasp on my life has been suffocating, her presence looming over me like a dark cloud. I have been too afraid to face her, too afraid to confront the pain and betrayal she’s inflicted upon me.
But now, something within me has shifted. I am tired of living in here, tired of letting Kayla dictate my every move. I’m ready to stand up to her, to look her straight in the eye and tell her that I won’t be intimidated anymore.
I think back to the days when we were friends, when we shared our secrets and dreams. Kayla was always the stronger one, the one who seemed to have it all together. But behind closed doors, she was a different person – manipulative, controlling, and cruel.
I remember the day she turned on me, the day she revealed her true nature. But now I see her for what she truly is – a master manipulator who uses people for her own gain.
But I am not the same person I was back then. I have grown stronger, wiser, and more resilient. I’ve found my voice, my courage, and my determination. And I’m ready to use them to take down Kayla, to expose her for the fraud she is.
I take a deep breath, my heart pounding in my chest. I know this won’t be easy, but I’m ready for the fight. I am ready to face Kayla, to confront the pain and betrayal she’s inflicted upon me. I am ready to take back control of my life, to show Kayla that she no longer has power over me.
