Chapter 73
Narrow Escape.
Chris POV:
“I need you all to wait here while I go see what is going on!” Asher told us.
“But you need to hide and take Megan with you where was before now!” He said as we got all of that done.
“Why are you all coming this way?” Asher asked as soon as he got out.
“Uh! I mean… I mean… why are you all here like there is a war or something?” Asher asked laughing.
“We heard the alarm go off, so we are here to see what is happening!” They told him.
“Okay! You can do whatever you want but everything is fine around here!” Asher told them as they entered into the cell but could not find anything implicating.
“I guess the alarm was false! Let us get out of here!” The leader of the group ordered as they all retired.
“Phew!” Asher sighed as they all left.
“That was a close one you know!” He told me.
“Yeah! Now it is another thing for us to get Megan out of here!” He reminded us.
“I have an idea!” Veronica told us.
“What is it? Speak up!” Jane urged her as we were all panicking and getting impatient.
“Look there!” She said pointing at a truck.
“That is a truck filled with haystacks! Why don’t we put Megan and you both into it and Asher drive you out of here?” Veronica asked us.
“Wow! That is a brilliant idea… what do you think!” I said.
“I agree with her!” Jane said as Asher went to get the truck.
“It is here! You all better be fast about it!” He said as we got into the haystacks.
“Why are you taking the truck out?” He was asked at the entrance.
“There are important things there you know!” The man at the gate told Asher.
“There are not that important… it is just haystacks that needs to trash… and besides even Kayla and Hailey asked me to take them out.” Asher lied.
“Since Kayla and Hailey asked you too, then you can leave… safe journey!” He said and bade farewell.
“That was a nice try but I need to get out of her else I will suffocate!” I told him and got out of the haystack.
“Never mind! You all will be in a safer place now!” Asher told us.
“Where are you taking is too?” I asked him.
“I have got a safe place where Megan can stay for a while all of this dies down!” Asher revealed.
“Oh!” Jane exclaimed.
“You have been more than helpful to us! I will make sure all of the people behind this suffer.” Jane vowed.
“I will be willing to help you in every step that you take.” Asher seconded.
“But here we are!” He announced as we got to a small house sitting on the side of the beach.
“This feels like peace!” Megan muttered as we got in.
“At least, you would be resting here till you get back up on your feet and fit to fight the bad guys!” Jane replied.
“Thank you!” Megan said faintly.
Thank goodness we found her! I was so worried sick about her, that o was not thinking straight some point. We have been searching everywhere, asking everyone if they have seen her. I was starting to lose hope, but I did not give up.
But I am grateful that we met Asher, and he was able to help us.
I knew I had to keep looking, had to keep fighting to find her. And now, here she is, safe and sound. I cannot believe it, I am so relieved. I feel like I can finally breathe again.
I will make sure that she does not make such a mistake, ever again. And I will make sure she is safe, because I was definitely going to run crazy if I do not set my eyes on her on her.
I was back to the office and Lily rushed and was asking series of questions, that made me dislike her more.
“Chris, Chris… did you find her? Did you see Megan? Is she okay?” Lily asked as if she sincerely cared for Megan.
“No!” I lied.
“We only went to report to the police!” I said.
“Okay… so how about Jane… where is she?” Lily asked me.
“I do not know… she probably went shopping or maybe she is off to see a movie, since we are all saddened by this incident!” I sobbed.
“Oh. I am so sorry Chris! It is much harder for me because we have been friends for a very long time!” Lily lamented.
“Yeah. I understand!” I told her.
“Snitch!” I muttered under my breath.
“I will just get back to work!” I said as I noticed Lily reached out for her phone.
“What!” She exclaimed as her face turned red with what I could not decipher.
“Is she angry or sad?” I thought.
“What if she has gotten the news of Megan’s escape?” I wondered.
“Are you okay, Lily?” I asked her as she could barely talk.
“Yes… yes!” She told me.
“I just got some really bad need from the… from the… from my family!” Lily rephrased.
“My uncle just called in sick, and I need to go check up on him!” Lily pleaded as she got her things together to leave.
“But I can offer you a ride if you want!” I told her.
“No… no! I will be fine!” Lily said as she left.
“I do not believe an iota of any words that came out of her mouth! But I will make sure that I do my findings!” I vowed.
Immediately, I saw Helena leaning over her work desk doing nothing.
“You should be working now, why aren’t you?” I asked her casually.
“Lily just left the office to go see her uncle who needs her help!” I told her.
“Uncle?” Helena looked shocked hearing what I told her.
“Lily has no uncle!” Helena revealed.
“Oh maybe… it could be her cousin or brother!” I tried to convince her.
“Lily has no family in this town, she is probably o the journey of doing her own business which is not related to family and work either!” Helena explained.
“Wow!” I sighed quietly.
“What if she has gotten the news of Megan’s escape?” I thought when Lily came back into the office.
“Are you okay?” I asked her.
“Yes! I am fine!” Lily replied.
“And your uncle?” Helena asked her.
“You have no business with my uncle!” She yelled at her and left.
“I told you! She is just lying!” Helena said.
