Chapter 65
The police expose
Megan’s POV:
I was sitting quietly as so many thoughts ran through my mind, that I could not even notice Lily’s presence.
“Hey!” Lily said as she tapped me.
“What are you thinking about… you look so lost in thought!” Lily told me.
” I want to speak to the press about this.” I revealed.
“About what?” Lily asked me to look perplexed.
“Hailey of course!” I told her.
” We need to expose Hailey’s actions and make sure she can’t harm anyone else.” I continued the conversation.
“I am with you, Megan. Let us do it.” Lily approved of it.
“Then let us get into it!” I told her.
“Fine. I will get back to you.” Lily said and she exited the room.
Few minutes later, Lily was in my office, looking like she has gotten something positive.
“There are here… the press people!” Lily added when she saw how confused I looked.
“Then, let us be on our way!” I told her.
I and Lily walked into the conference room, where a group of reporters are waiting.
“Go on!” Lily advised me.
I took a deep breath and began to speak.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I want to tell you a story about a toxic woman, who thought she was above the law. Hailey used blackmail and manipulation to get ahead in her career, but we did not let her get away with it, this time.” I told them all.
The reporters all looked surprise with what I had said.
“But how can you say that about… Hailey… she is a well-known actress!” One of the reporters said.
“I knew that this will be a hard nut to crack, but trust me, Hailey is not what you think she is.” I explained to them.
“So, can you tell us more about what happened?” Another one said.
“Sure!” I answered nodding.
“Hailey was blackmailing Chris, our CEO!” I said when I was cut short by the reporter.
“But we all know Chris to be your writer, before he turned your boyfriend!” She revealed.
“Yeah, change happened so he is now the CEO!” I replied managing to smile.
“She was using it to further her own interests. She thinks she is untouchable, but we proved her wrong. We discovered her scheme, gathered evidence so, we want to let
“Wow, that’s quite a story. How did you manage to take her down?” I was asked.
“We worked together and gathered evidence.” Lily said smiling.
“We want to make it clear that this behavior will not be tolerated. We stand for integrity, honesty, and respect. And we’ll do whatever it takes to protect our employees and our company. We’re not just talking about Hailey’s actions, but also about the culture that allowed her to thrive. We are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.” I said firmly
“What about Chris? How is he involved in all this?” I was asked.
“Chris is a victim of Hailey’s blackmail!” I told them.
“We hope this story will serve as a warning to others who think they can get away with toxic behavior. We won’t tolerate it, and we’ll always stand up for what’s right.” I concluded.
I concluded and saw the reporters nodding with satisfaction, taking notes and snapping photos. The press conference ended as I and Lily feeling proud and empowered, knowing they’ve made a difference.
“Thanks, Lily… we make a great team.” O told her smiling.
“Sure… we do!” Lily said happily.
“Definitely. Let us keep fighting for what is right.” I added.
As I walked out of the conference room, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. We had finally taken down Hailey, the toxic woman, who was about to make our lives a living hell. But as I looked around at my colleagues, cheering and clapping, I could not shake off the feeling that something was off.
It started with little things. Chris, my fake boyfriend and now… CEO, was being overly friendly and congratulatory, almost to the point of being insincere. And then there was the way he kept glancing at me, a look in his eye that I could not quite decipher.
At first, I brushed it off as paranoia, but as the days went by, I started to notice more and more strange behavior from Chris.
‘You are getting too involved in my work!” I told him.
“But I am your new boss now. Jane left you in my care.” He would say.
He was also taking an unusual interest in my work, asking me to meet with him regularly to discuss my projects. And then there were the accidental meetings in the hallway.
“He is just my fake boyfriend… he should stop acting that way.” I will think.
I tried to avoid him as much as possible, but it was hard to do because Jane already made him boss!
I tried getting my mind off all of this, as I thought I was just over thinking.
And then, one night, I received an email from an anonymous sender. The subject line read: “Be careful around Chris.”
My heart racing, I opened the email and read the contents. It was a warning from someone who claimed to have been in a similar situation with Chris before. They told me that Chris had a history of manipulating and controlling those closest to him, including his girlfriends and employees.
I felt a chill run down my spine, but I was not taking that. Chris wasn’t just being friendly and supportive but amazing too.
There was no way he was going to manipulate me or use his power and position to make me feel vulnerable and dependent on him.
I knew I had to act fast, to gather evidence and to know the truth about Chris before it was too late. But as I looked around at my colleagues, I realized that the email could be a lie as no one saw Chris on that light.
I knew I had to tread carefully, to find allies and get to know the truth, without alerting him to my suspicions.
It’s going to be a long and difficult week, but I’m ready for the challenge. I’ll have to navigate the treacherous waters of getting evidence. And to make matters worse, I’ll have to do it all while pretending… I feel like a terrible person already.
I will have to put on a mask of innocence and loyalty.
I will have to be careful not to arouse his suspicion.
I’ll have to document every conversation, every meeting, every encounter. I’ll have to gather witness statements and find ways to expose his behavior without putting myself in harm’s way. It’s a daunting task, but I’m ready for it.
I just wish I had someone to confide in, someone who could offer me support and guidance. But for now, I’m on my own. I’ll have to rely on my own strength and determination to see this through. So, here goes nothing.
