“That guy knows nothing; you’ve only wasted your time on him…”
The nerve of Damian….. To come in here and make him look like a complete idiot in front of all the men he controls..
Miranda… It’s all because of Miranda, it’s all because of her that he’s been putting up with Damian’s revolting attitude. If Miranda weren’t involved in all this, Damian would have been sitting right next to Raymond in that torture room.
There’s one thing though, one thing that Walden hates to admit to himself, and it’s that Damian stands a better chance of finding Miranda than he does. He overheard the phone call with his beta just now, and discovered how bent he is on finding her. He knows then that this is one more reason he has to swallow his pride and act in agreement with Damian. It will only be for a while, just until they find Miranda, and when they do, he’ll make it look as if he’s the one that did all the work, he’ll take credit for it all and make it look as if Damian did nothing, and then Miranda will realize who really has her best interest…
It will be all worth it when Miranda sees how much he really cares and will finally leave Damian for him.
He then went back to meet with Damian in the court.
“I have realized something just now, Damian.”
“What is it?” Damian asked with a raised brow.
“I have realized that you are much more capable in handling this than I am. As much as I hate to admit it, you were right. I should have made more efforts to find them other than torturing someone I wasn’t even sure of being the culprit…”
Damian nodded with full attention, wanting to see where this was going.
“I have released Raymond now and sent him to the healer’s quarters for treatment. You can stay here in the mean time while we both draft a plan to get Miranda and Samara back. From now on, I will only do as you suggest and not rely on my own incompetence.”
His words surprised Damian, so much that he didn’t even know what to say or respond with, but just went along.
“OK… Thank you for your assistance Walden. I’m sure it will go a long way in finding them both.”
No, thank YOU Damian. Thank you for the fact that Miranda will soon come back to me.
***********
Miranda had been sleeping for a long time. She was heavily dosed multiple times on the way because of the delayed journey, and it took a long time, almost three days, for the effect of the injections to wear off. Her head was so heavy when she woke up.
“Good morning, princess. Did you sleep well?”
Her eyes were still closed as her mind was gradually coming to reality, but then…. That voice… Why did it sound so familiar?
Samara.
Her snapped her eyes open, and there she was, right in front of her, chained to a chair, as was she.
Miranda struggled with the chains, “what am I doing here?”
“We’ve been kidnapped, honey, and we’re being used as bait…”
“Bait?? For what…?”
She grinned, “no one else but your true love, Walden.”
Miranda nearly threw up hearing those words. Kidnapped because of Walden? What does she have to do with him exactly?
“I don’t understand…” her voice began to get louder. “Why would I get kinapped because of Walden??? I am married to someone else, so who gave them that idea?”
Samara shrugged, feigning ignorance. They must have probably thought that you both were still in love with each other. And also with the fact that you’re married to a ruthless tiger, everyone must probably think that your marriage is one full of suffering and the real person that loves you is Walden….
“That’s a lie!!! That’s a big lie!!! Who put us here?? I want to speak to that person right now….”
“Speak dear, I’m listening….” She heard the voice in the background; the same voice she’d heard at the silver border when she’d passed out, the voice of one of the kidnappers. He didn’t come into the light for her to see, he only spoke from right where he was behind them in the dark end of the room.
“You made a mistake by bringing me here!!! I’m not the one who Walden loves!” Miranda yelled.
“That’s quite different from the statements we gathered. You were captured by the man you are currently married to, right?”
“Yes…”
“You were taken in as his prisoner, and you were also placed on execution by him.”
“Yes, but he didn’t sentence me….”
“He didn’t sentence you but he would have eventually killed you if he weren’t able to confirm your identity…”
“He would have, but he didn’t. When the time came for me to prove myself to him, I failed. I told him to give Walden the power to come and rescue me, Walden never showed up, and had it not been for the mercy that Damian showed to me then, had it not been for the fact that he felt compassion for me, I would have been dead by now.”
Silence.
The kidnapper didn’t respond with any words, he seemed astounded with what she’d just said, probably because such kindness has never been heard about the silver alpha, probably because “mercy” and “Damian” had never been used in the same sentence before. She continued.
“He not only gave me a chance to save my life, but he also gave me a chance to save my people, he married me. He showed me love, he gave me love even when he didn’t know much about it. He’s a good man, a good leader, a fighter, a I’m sure as hell he’s on his way here to rescue me.”
The kidnapper burst out into laughter then, “poor girl. She’s suffered so much in her marriage, she doesn’t even know what she’s saying anymore….”
He then came into the light so Miranda could see his masked face clearly.
“I knew you were jabbering when you mentioned that the silver alpha Damian would leave his territory to come and save you, his slave wife. Such has never happened, and it never will.”
