Chapter 57
My biggest fear.
Megan’s POV:
Smoky crawled quietly in my arms as I stroked her back continuously as my mind raced, leaving me wondering about my life after this charade.
It is crazy! I somehow feel that I am going to fail at this but…
“Why are you lost in your thoughts?” Lily questioned as she noticed my mood.
“What! Do not tell me you are still angry with me… but I am so sorry…” Lily was pleased as I wondered what prompted her to do so.
“Shh!” I stopped her from clamoring any further.
“I have gotten my mind off that!” I told her.
“I am about this… this… false relationship that I am putting off… I know that I am doing this for my good.” I ranted.
“But what if my fuss gets to know of this and it does not go as planned?” Lily stared quietly as she watched me rant.
Lily had so much pity on me but there was nothing she could do at that point.
“Megan… I want you to look at the brighter side of this.” Lily said as she took my hands looking at me.
“Enough of all of this.” Jane interrupted again.
“You have an interview, Meg!” Jane said.
“No, not now!” I told her.
“They are only here to get news to fuel their gossips for the blogs.” I snapped.
“That is a lot different, they want to know your thoughts on your fight with Kayla in a week’s time.” She told me.
I went muted immediately Jane explained. All my years as a boxer, I have dreaded being in the same boxing ring with Kayla.
I wish there was a way I could shy away from the fight, because I felt she had a personal problem with me.
“I am not going to be a part of that! Send them all away.” Jane and Lily wondered why I backed off before the fight even started.
“But… but why?” Lily asked with disappointment written all over her face.
“I do not think o need to explain myself to anyone.” I revealed.
“You may think that you do not want to explain yourself to me, but you definitely will explain yourself to me.” Jane told me sternly.
“Now tell us everything we need to know about the change of plans.” Jane communicated.
“There was no change of plans because I did not succumb to this on the first place.” Lily had her mouth opened wide with surprised and Jane stood looking shocked.
“What!” I asked them both.
“You should not act surprised to why I am rejecting this offer!” I tried explaining to them.
“In this industry, you all know that Kayla is my biggest competition, and this fight is coming in the right time to humiliate me.” Jane shook her head in disapproval, not aligning with every word that proceeded out of my mouth.
“If I lose this match, you know what people will be saying, yeah!” I kept on explaining as they looked at me like I was making no sense.
“All you just said is only in your head.” Jane said as she took my hands.
“We are going to get you interviewed.” I struggled with her, but she would not let go, until I was standing face to face with interviewers.
There was no way to run because I was here to face reality at the moment.
“Uh. I guess the fight…” I went muted as I cut attention of Kayla standing right behind the interviewers.
It felt like the whole interview was her making and she greeted me with a smirk, when we locked eyes.
“Yes!” I concluded the interview and rushed back on at once.
“What was that?” Jane asked.
“Why would you leave in the middle of an interview?” She queried.
“I told you this interview is only here to humiliate me.” I explained, downcast.
“Did you not see her? This is what she has been waiting for her whole life, and now it has been served to her on a platter.” I said.
“You know I wonder where you got the whole story and analogy that Kayla is going to kick your butt.” Jane fired at me.
“I have seen Kayla trained and you too train, but she is not where close to you… you are the best.” Jane motivated me.
“One of the best, you mean you say.” I disagreed.
“Besides, you only watched us train as children now she is all grown and a pro in the game.” I tried to convince her over and over again.
“That is what you want to tell yourself.” Jane said.
“No, Jane!” Kayla interrupted our conversation.
“Everything, Megan said about me a pro is true and she is only being awarded a celebrity boxer because she has not met me but now, the story is going to change.” Kayla said proudly.
“Oh, shut up!” I stood up to her.
“Do you think you can fight me and win?” I asked her.
“Kayla, all the hate you have towards me, will not help you but will further eat you up when I smashed your ass in the coming week.” Kayla watched on, surprised.
“We shall see.” Kayla stumped out in anger.
“Where did you get all that energy from? I never knew you were going to stand up to her.” Jane sat as she threw a piece of chips into her mouth.
“I do not feel any better, but I needed her understand that I am not scared of her.” I explained.
“You think you are not scared of her?” Jane chuckled as she munched on.
“I thought you wanted to see me talk this way. So why are you surprised now?” I wondered.
“Haha!” Jane laughed.
“Now, I think you are a little bit ready for that robot.” Jane told me.
“Robot?” I asked her.
“Who is that?” I questioned.
“Kayla!” Jane replied.
“She is a robot because she has been training her whole to fight you.” Jane explained.
“Now, I think this would be a tough nut to crack.” I told her.
“Nope!” Jane replied.
“You will perform just fine; you just need to practice for this.” Jane confirmed.
“You will help me practice?” I beseeched
“No, you are a big girl now! You should be able to do that by yourself.” Jane said as she got her handbag and went through the exit door.
“Phew!” I sunk into the bean chair that was sitting right to the door as I pondered on the impending doom that was visibly coming my way.
“I wish I could just run away, but I am not running away from this because Jane says so.” I concluded.
“Argh!”
