“Ah… it hurts so much…” Shannon’s hair was just combed into knots, and pulling the comb through her hair tugged at her scalp, causing her to grimace in pain.
Ranita raised an eyebrow, making a sarcastic remark, “It’s bound to hurt a bit when your hair is tangled! Miss Murphy, endure it a little.”
“Better to endure a short pain than a long one. I’ll speed up!” Ranita forcefully combed Shannon’s hair, pulling out a bunch of it.
Feeling gleeful!
“Ranita… please… it really hurts… can you be gentler?” Tears were about to burst from Shannon’s eyes, her fair face slightly tilted, resembling a lamb being bullied.
“Brendon.”
This last sentence was soft and slightly breathless, with a hint of grievance.
Pathetic yet seductive.
Ranita felt nauseated, almost throwing up.
“Shannon, it’ll be over soon.” Brendon said calmly, then glanced at Ranita.
His expression remained neutral.
But having lived with Brendon for years, Ranita still noticed subtle changes in his facial expression, a slight pressure at the corner of his lips.
Was Brendon just enjoying the show? Quite happily?
Ranita couldn’t quite grasp Brendon’s attitude… Wasn’t he supposed to be on Shannon’s side?
Ranita’s mind was in disarray.
Suddenly losing interest, she dropped the comb and said flatly, “If Miss Murphy is uncomfortable, you can do it yourself!”
Ranita turned and left.
After a few steps, she suddenly remembered touching Shannon’s hair with her hands, feeling suddenly unclean. She turned into the kitchen and vigorously washed her hands with soap.
“Don’t scrub so hard, you’ll wash your skin off.” Suddenly, a deep voice came from behind.
Ranita was startled.
Her ears turned slightly red, she suppressed her pounding heart and asked, “What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be watching Miss Murphy?”
Brendon didn’t answer, but smiled slightly, “Are you feeling relieved now?”
Relieved?
Ranita looked at the man in slight confusion.
She wasn’t stupid and quickly realized the reason.
“Weren’t you supposed to be on Shannon’s side?” Ranita asked awkwardly, feeling a mix of emotions, all jumbled up.
Brendon handed her a tissue, his eyelids drooping, his voice low, “I’m not here for her, I’m here for you.”
With that sentence, Ranita’s heart jumped to her throat uncontrollably.
A heart beating wildly out of control.
“What’s it to me?” Ranita looked away, stubbornly saying, “You should go check on Miss Murphy, I’ll leave first.”
“Wait a minute.” Brendon’s Adam’s apple rolled as he was about to speak when Shannon fluttered over like a butterfly, leaning towards Brendon, “Ranita, Brendon, why are you in the kitchen?”
Ranita raised an eyebrow at Shannon, “Your hands are too dirty, go wash them.”
Shannon immediately changed her expression, biting her lip apologetically, “Ranita, I’m sorry, it’s all my fault.”
Ranita smiled without saying a word, then silently watched Shannon perform.
Shannon’s face turned pale, her distressed frown looking even more delicate and weak as if she were about to faint, “Ranita, do you want to sit down and have a cup of tea? I’ll pour you one…”
As she spoke, she began pouring tea onto Brendon.
Ranita’s heart tensed, secretly hoping Brendon wouldn’t help her and would let her fall to the ground.
The next moment, Ranita was pulled, her arm caught around Shannon’s waist, and she ended up supporting Shannon.
Not only was Ranita stunned, but Shannon was too.
