Emerson reached to pat Edward on his head, “Edward, no matter who gave you your life, my brother would always be your father, can you remember?”
Edward nodded, “I know, dad would always be my father.”
Emerson told the housekeeper to send Edward to the kindergarten, and pulled Candice to his room. Emerson took out the divorce settlement, flipped it to the back, and passed Candice a pen.
Candice held the pen, her hand shaking like a Parkinson patient. Her tears dropped drop by drop onto Robert’s signature. The signature was vigorous, going even through the back of the paper, it could be imagined how much of strength Robert had used when he signed his name.
“Emerson, would we go to hell for being so selfish?” Candice lifted her head, her eyes moist as she asked Emerson.
Emerson took Candice’s hand, and signed her name under Robert’s signature, “Even if we are going to hell, I’ll never let you go.”
Emerson let the servant pack up Candice’s things, and insisted her to stay at the hospital and receive treatment as soon as possible. Thus, Candice knew that her insistence against being hospitalised was fruitless.
Candice had barely escaped death, and when there was no longer a huge trench across her and Emerson, she changed her mind. Candice wanted to try hard to survive, a day that she was alive would be a day more to accompany this man.
The doctor told Candice that when she was doing her pap smear in the afternoon there would also be a minor procedure to ensure the successfulness of the procedure after. It would be a very minor one, just sleep and it would be fine.
Candice nodded, since she was already in the hospital, she would follow the doctor’s every instruction.
The operation was at 3pm in the afternoon. At 2pm, Emerson was summoned by the doctor.
Candice lay on the hospital bed, feeling calm looking at the cloud outside the window. No matter what the result was, even if she was to pass away on the operating table the next second, she had no more regrets.
The door to the room opened, Candice thought it was Emerson. She turned on instinct and saw… Lily.
When Lily saw Candice, she could not contain her anger and went over to give Candice a slap, “Aren’t you supposed to be dead! Why are you back when you were supposed to be dead!”
Candice touched her burning face, she deserved Lily’s accusations and her slap.
The deal was done, and she had passed her the things, but she was still alive.
“I’m sorry, Lily.” Candice replied.
Lily was so angry that the finger pointing towards Candice was shaking, “Fake, you fake, bad woman, you conned me into dealing with you but robbed me of my groom, and let my wedding become a laughing stock. You told me that there was nothing between you and Emerson, but now you come back bearing his child again!”
Candice frowned, “I had his child again?”
“You didn’t know that you’re pregnant?” Lily’s eyes were as furious as a monster.
Candice shook her head, “I’m not pregnant.”
Lily watched Candice’s clueless face, and suddenly laughed horribly, “… you fool, did you really think Emerson loved you? He was only playing with you. Or else why would he go behind your back to get you an abortion? This is karma, karma for your cheating on me!”
Lily laughed like a mad woman, while Candice clutched her abdomen.
The door of the room was opened again, and Emerson and the doctor walked in. Emerson grabbed Lily who was laughing and threw her away, Lily’s head smashed onto the corner of the hospital bed heavily. A stream of blood dripped down from the corner of her forehead.
