Because of what happened last night, as soon as Katherine and Jacob met each, they ignored each other.
Jacob just casted a cold glance at Katherine and then he came downstairs, avoiding her.
Katherine ignored him as well, but she still came up to him.
Jacob sat in front of the dinner table. Seeing her standing by him, he asked without raising his head, “What’s up?”
Katherine stretched out her hand, “My phone.”
Jacob didn’t return her phone to her after they met at the airport yesterday.
Jacob’s face seemed to be colder, “On the sofa.”
Katherine came to the sofa and there was exactly a phone on the sofa in the living room.
She took her phone. And the first thing she wanted to do was to call Theo Hunter. However, she found the phone was on. Katherine turned back her head, staring at Jacob, “Have you touched my phone?”
Jacob’s hand holding the chopsticks paused and then he replied indifferently, “I just answered the phone by chance.”
Katherine got extremely irritated. She stared at him severely and checked the phone.
As she expected, the call he answered was from Theo.
What had Jacob told Theo? It must be something unpleasant.
Katherine immediately called Theo.
Theo soon answered the phone and the voice was a bit hoarse, “Kate?”
His voice sounded tired, which seemed that he didn’t have a good sleep.
Katherine tensed up and hurriedly replied, “Theo, I…”
“Are you in the Murray’s?” Theo asked before she explained.
Katherine became silent for a while and answered, “Yes.”
“Are you coming back?” Theo’s voice was as gentle as usual, “It doesn’t matter even if you don’t come back. I respect your decision.”
“I will…” Katherine quickly replied.
As soon as her words finished, she heard a big bang.
She turned around her head and saw Jacob put his chopsticks heavily on the table, take the care key and directly go toward the door without looking at her.
It only took him seconds to put on the shoes. He then slapped the door and left.
From beginning to end he didn’t look at her but he wore a very bad complexion.
“Kate?”
Katherine gathered her wits together, “Yes.”
“Does Jacob trap you in his house? Do you need me to pick you up there?”
Katherine was worried that Theo would be ranged against by Jacob and Theo was busy with his work. How could it be easy for him to come back from abroad?
Thinking for a while, she said calmly, “No, he doesn’t. But you know the family name of the kids is Murray. I hope they can stay here for more days. I’ll bring them back in several days. No worries.”
Theo kept silent for a while, “Okay. Take good care of yourself.”
“I will. Don’t worry about me.”
How could Theo believe her? She was only too anxious to get far away from Jacob, so how could it be possible for her to bring the kids to the Murray’s? It must be Jacob who compelled her to do so.
Thinking of the words Jacob Murray said to him last night that “I will definitely not let Katherine off. Drop the idea forever”, Theo seized his hands tightly. After hanging up the phone, he immediately booked the return ticket.
He had waited Katherine for so many years. He was so close to success, so how could he drop the idea?
To keep an eye on Katherine, Jacob specifically sent security guards to the old house. If Katherine wanted to leave, she had to ask for his permission.
Laura Wells took the two kids outside. Katherine wandered around the house several times and was a little worried.
The security measures were well taken in the Murray’s, so she had nowhere to escape from.
After thinking for a long time, Katherine looked for someone on the Internet to rent a car for her. She asked that person to park the car near the house. That person finished the task very quickly. In the afternoon Katherine received the car key delivered to her.
After the supper, Jacob didn’t come back. Laura was also tired after spending a whole day hanging around and she rest upstairs.
Watching the kids playing on the floor, Katherine was a bit anxious.
The longer she stayed here, the more anxious she was. She didn’t hope what happened last night would happen again.
Tomorrow was the weekend. She was afraid Jacob would stay with the kids all day long, and then she would have few chances to escape.
On a sudden inspiration, Katherine asked Merry to her. She asked in a low voice, “Merry, there is a glass greenhouse in the garden outside. There are lots of flowers inside. Do you want to have a look?”
Merry answered at once, “Yes!”
“Then ask your brother to take you there, ok?”
Merry nodded immediately. Felix had to put down the toy bricks in his hands reluctantly.
Since there were security guards outside the gate, Katherine didn’t turn on the lights in the yard purposely while taking the kids to the glass greenhouse.
“Play here. Don’t touch the flowers. Understand?”
Katherine told them. She glanced at the watch and knew it was nearly the time when Jacob arrived home.
She went back to the room. Soon the sound of the car came into her ears.
Katherine was a little nervous, but she pretended to be watching TV calmly.
Jacob might have spent some time playing with the kids. After a period of time, he went inside the room. Seeing Katherine seated on the sofa, he frowned, “Do you feel reassured with the kids playing outside alone?”
The kids were obedient and sensible and they never gave Katherine worries. What was more, security guards were outside and nothing dangerous could happen, so Katherine certainly feel reassured.
But now she behaved indifferent, “If you are worried, play with them.”
