Chapter 57 The Most Insidious Thing Ever

Book:The Surging Of Love Published:2024-5-1

Ewan tried to open his mouth but found his throat was unbearably hoarse. He moistened his throat and slowly bent his head down, pressing his elbows back down on his knees and sitting back into the position he had just been in. All of these were done just to avoid looking at her seductive body.
“I opened the door and walked in.” Ewan murmured in a faint tone.
“Oh.” Rachel felt somewhat silly for asking that question.
She was too nervous and forgot how to react.
Ewan’s indifferent tone was stern as he asked word by word, “Do you want to talk to me just like that, or do you want to get dressed?”
Rachel looked down at herself and immediately went to the wardrobe to find her clothes before turning to look at Ewan.
After a pause, she said nervously, “Ewan, do you mind going out while I change clothes?”
Ewan remained unmoved. His eyes stared at the ground like they were unfocused.
He was silent.
The smile on Rachel’s face slowly disappeared. She couldn’t be happy with this cold attitude of Ewan’s.
“Ewan, then I’ll go into the bathroom to change. You wait for me here, I…”
Ewan suddenly interrupted her. His attitude got a little colder, “Speak now.”
Rachel held her clothes and stood behind him, stunned after hearing that he didn’t want to wait for her for a moment.
Rachel pulled the towel. After a moment of silence, she took the original photo of her parents and said, “I was robbed, tied up and abandoned in a deserted place. All my belongings were taken.”
Suddenly, Ewan stood up and turned to her, his tall and strong body moved to her, which made her very stressed. Rachel took a step back, nervous from concealing the truth. She was too guilty to look him in the eye.
Ewan put his hands in his pockets and said sternly, “You better tell the truth and not make up stories.”
“I…” Rachel nervously covered the towel with her hands and looked up into his eyes. His deep eyes were so sharp that they were like a blade, which could make people feel deadly frightened.
She retreated even more, but he was still approaching in steps.
Rachel couldn’t retreat anymore as she felt her back pressing against the cold wall. Her skin was aching cold.
She was so nervous that she let go of the clothes in her hands and braced her hands against the man’s broad muscular chest to stop him from approaching, “Ewan, can you talk properly and stop being so scary?”
Ewan gripped her wrist and pressed it hard against the wall. The sudden pain made Rachel frown as she groaned in pain, “Ah, it hurts.”
Her wrist felt painful like it was going to break. The man’s anger was evident.
He didn’t pity her at all. He narrowed his cold eyes while pressing his head down and leaning close to ask her coldly, “Why didn’t you resist so much when you were cuddling and hugging Mason in front of so many people?”
“I …” Rachel wanted to speak. Her breathing was quick.
At this point, any explanation would simply turn into excuse.
Ewan’s face grew increasingly stern.
His breathing became deep. His heart was beating fast as he panted slightly.
His eyes were so cold that they were oozing with danger. His cold murderous aura enveloped the entire room, instantly dropping the temperature to the freezing point.
Rachel felt that her wrist was about to break. It was so painful that tears were about to spill out. She gazed up at the man’s stern face and slowly said, “Mason was worried about me. He was too excited to see me back safely, so what’s wrong with a hug?”
Ewan’s eyebrows furrowed slightly. His murderous eyes were staring at her.
Ewan bit down hard on every word, “I warned you to remember your status.”
Rachel angrily tugged at her wrist but was unable to break free. She bit her lower lip and angrily peered into his eyes. Her tone was a little more solemn, “My status was imposed by you.”
When anger reached its highest point, a person tends to explode.
Ewan slowly closed his eyes and opened his lips slightly to take deep breaths using all his willpower in restraint. One day, he would be tormented by this woman to the point of madness.
Rachel was straining to gaze at his closed eyes. His brow furrowed in a painful expression as if he was shot in the heart.
She felt like she had done nothing nor said anything outrageous. She was just truthful and yet, she managed to infuriate him to a critical point every time.
After waiting for a moment, Ewan slowed down. He said in a low voice, “Tell Mason that you’re married. I don’t want to see you acting intimately again.”
“No way.” Rachel immediately refused as she shook her head nervously. “No, I can’t say that to Mason. If he knows it, that means the whole family will know. Then, my mother will know too.”
“If you don’t want to tell him, I’ll do it.” Ewan narrowed his eyes and spoke in a cold tone.
“No.” Rachel shouted out nervously. Her lips trembled slightly in fear.
If things were exposed, she would be forced to divorce. She was already tired and sick of that kind of life. Life was great now. At least she could be comfortable being Ewan’s wife.
She was willing to do so even if she had to sneak around for the rest of her life.
If his military subordinates could address her as “Mrs. Hill”, she would already be satisfied and contented.
Ewan smiled bitterly, The smile was as cold as ice, but his tone was incomparably freezing, “You’re already my wife, but you still have a crush on Mason?”
“I don’t,” Rachel replied anxiously.
Ewan lowered his voice and murmured in a deep voice, “Prove it to me.”
“I can’t prove it. Mason and I only shared kinship. It’s not as nasty as you said, we …”
Ewan’s cold statement interrupted her, “If you can hug him in public then you can sleep with him, do you still call that kinship?”
“Smack.”
A sound of slap sounded instantly.
Rachel’s slap was sharp and heavy. Looking at Ewan’s cheek, the faint palm print was stabbing her heart like a needle.
The palm of her hand was slightly painful, her fingertips were trembling, and her eyes were full of tears. Her heart was being torn apart. The pain numbed her, and her throat was burning hot. It was like a fire that made her unable to pronounce a single word.
Ewan paused motionlessly. He was stunned for a moment. The corner of his mouth curved bitterly. It was like a smile but cold and desperate.
He touched his cheek and dropped his eyes without looking at Rachel. He asked faintly, “Does it hurt?”
As soon as the question was asked, the mist that overflowed Rachel’s eyes instantly turned into water droplets, slowly sliding down her cheeks and dripping onto her chin.
The palm of her hand hurt, but her heart hurt even more.
She tried her best to bite her lips and endure.
Ewan’s sight slowly fell on the teardrop on her chin. It was such an innocent tear, but it wasn’t for him.
Rachel’s throat was so hot and choked up that she couldn’t make a sound even if she wanted to speak.
Ewan slowly let go of one side of her wrist. His big hand was shaking slightly as he wiped away the tears on her face.
The moment he got close to Rachel, she stiffened in shock.
He didn’t hurt her but merely touched her face. His fingertips were gently wiping away her tears. His tone was weak, “I, Ewan, had done nothing more sinister than turning you into my wife. You must not know how much I hate you. I forcefully destroy your future and pushed you to hell. This is your life. I will never let you go, let alone let you get what you want.
