Chapter 54 Back Home

She glanced around nervously and found herself next to a river. The water shimmered in the night, which was extremely beautiful.
She checked her body nervously. It was fine.
And her bag was at her side. She opened the bag and took out her phone, pressing it hard a few times to find it was out of battery.
She stood up with her backpack, her feet still a little weak. After stumbling a few steps, she ran as fast as she could towards a light from far away.
God knows how scared she was at the moment. Her heart was palpitating and she didn’t dare to stop for a single moment.
She ran onto the highway and saw that the road was empty. There were only a few cars.
She walked forward without a sense of direction. A large truck loaded with goods passed by. She risked her life to run towards the road and waved at the truck.
The truck was quite far away, so it had enough time to brake.
The truck driver was going to get angry. But, when he saw that the person was a beauty who was alone, he immediately cooled down.
Rachel ran up to the driver and shouted at him, “Hey, where is this?”
The driver peeked out and replied with a slight smile, “Highway. Girl, why are you all alone in the middle of nowhere?”
Rachel ignored the driver’s question and asked again, “What day is today?”
“It’s twelve, and it’s five in the morning. It’s not safe for you to be here alone. My next stop is C City, do you want to go there, girl?”
Rachel’s heart skipped a beat. She was kidnapped on the evening of the tenth. Now it’s five in the morning of the twelve. She had disappeared for one day and two nights.
Rachel looked up at the driver. He looked honest. Moreover, he looked small and weak. So, she took a gamble and got into his truck, following him to the city.
They reached C City.
And it’s morning.
It took a full three hours. After thanking the driver, she took a taxi back to the Hill Manor. On the way, she kept on thinking whether or not to tell Ewan the truth.
If she told him, once he made a move, those informers around him would inform that mysterious man…
She struggled for the whole ride.
Approaching the Hill Manor, the driver suddenly stopped the car. He turned to Rachel and said nervously, “Beauty, you should get out of the car. I don’t dare to drive in.”
“Why?” Rachel was confused.
The driver pointed ahead.
Rachel looked out from the car window.
The scene in front of her stunned her. She quickly paid the driver and got out of the car.
The driver immediately backed up and left.
Rachel stood blankly by the side of the road, looking at the two-way avenue leading to the Hill Manor. There were full of military vehicles parked on both sides, and beside the vehicles were armed soldier standing solemnly. They were wearing machine guns and were in valiant military posture, majestic and terrifying.
It was still over a hundred meters to go. She walked past these soldiers, scared. Her heart was trembling a little.
Even though the army was Ewan’s, she was still afraid and panicked in this situation.
Every step was tense and careful as she was deeply afraid that those guns would go off and hurt the innocent.
Her palms kept on sweating in front of these dignified soldiers.
Halfway through, an officer suddenly ran over and said excitedly, “Missus, you’re finally back.”
Rachel was startled. After she recognized him, she gave a weak smile, “Krish, oh it’s you.”
Krish said worriedly, “You disappeared, and this had gotten General Hill so anxious. If you still don’t show up, the entire country’s military will be on the move.”
“Huh?” Rachel looked at him in confusion.
Krish suddenly reacted and said, “I will go in now to report to General Hill. He’s in a meeting with the Ministry of Transportation, the Police Department, the Military Department, and the heads of several other important departments, ready to send the armies of the whole world to find you… Our navy, army and air force are looking everywhere for you. The troops who are still waiting for orders here…”
Rachel grabbed Krish’s arm and said urgently, “I’ll go…”
Afterwards, Rachel immediately ran home.
Because Krish called her Missus, all the soldiers heard it. The moment Rachel ran, everyone marched on spot solemnly, saluting her with neat movements and military postures. She was shocked to a halt.
Their actions frightened her. She stared at them dumbfounded.
No wonder the mysterious man wanted to snatch the necklace from her, it’s not that he couldn’t snatch it from Ewan; it’s just that he didn’t dare to get close to him.
Rachel was stunned for a moment. Then she continued to run back home as fast as possible.
At the large garden in front of the Hill Manor, there was a full parade of soldiers.
Rachel dashed into the Hill Manor. Kate saw her first at the door. She was so excited that she shouted while rushing into the living room, “Miss Rachel is back… Miss Rachel is back…”
All the people sitting in the living room looked towards the doorway, Mason was the first one to stand up and rush over.
Just as Rachel ran in, she was hugged into the arms of Mason who rushed over.
“Mmm…” she felt her body locked up so tightly that she mumbled in pain.
“Ma… Mason…” Rachel felt like she was about to be strangled to death. It was so tight that she couldn’t breathe.
Mason’s voice choked in excitement, “Rachel, you scared the hell out of me. You finally came back. This is so great. Rachel, I was so scared that you would end up like Eliza… like…”
Rachel froze as she heard Mason’s choking voice and saw his body trembling slightly, which was a sign of being very scared. He wanted to say something but hesitated, hugging her so tightly as if he wanted to pull her into his bones.
Rachel breathed deeply. She tried to push him away, but the more she pushed the closer she was hugged.
Unable to push Mason, she gave up struggling and quietly let him hugged her. She looked into the living room. The entire Hill family was there. Sienna was there too.
Eliza narrowed her eyes, her hostility was obvious.
But only Ewan wasn’t in the living room.
Just as she wondered where Ewan was, the door to the study was pushed open.
She saw Ewan came out with a group of high officials of different ranks. She was slightly startled.
Their eyes met. She looked into Ewan’s ink-black eyes. The anxiousness in his dark eyes slowly turned into aloofness and coldness.
Ewan looked extremely unhappy.
Rachel felt that his anger was growing every second. She quickly reached out her hands to push Mason, murmuring, “Mason, let go of me, everyone is watching us. You’re being inappropriate.”
“You know what, Rachel? I was really afraid that you would be hurt. Eliza was kidnapped once too, and she almost died, I…” Mason sniffed.
Rachel panicked. She realized that the man hugging her was crying.
Wasn’t Eliza rescued back then? Why was he so afraid?
It was the first time that someone would cry because he was worried about her. Moreover, it was a man who always appeared to be strong. Rachel felt heartache and patted his back to comfort him, “Mason, I’m fine, back safe and sound. You don’t have to worry.”
“Ahem, Ahem…” Henry Hill coughed a few times softly, signaling Mason to let go of her.
Mason only had eyes for Rachel. Everyone else was ignored. He held Rachel’s shoulders and gently pushed her away. He looked at Rachel from tip to toe with his red eyes and he asked nervously, “Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere, are you injured? Who was the one that took you? How did you get back? You…”
