Chapter 44 Must You Push Me To My Limits?

Book:The Surging Of Love Published:2024-5-1

Rachel was extremely nervous and immersed herself in the food. She said guiltily, “No.”
Henry asked her sternly, “What do you think of Andrew Harris? Your sister-in-law Erica told me once that her boss Andrew likes you. His family background is rather good. Do you wish to consider him?”
Rachel placed the chopsticks down slowly and sighed. She felt nauseous when she heard this name.
Erica wasn’t someone who liked to stick her nose in other’s business. Why would she say something like that to grandpa and try to matchmake for her? The only reason was she was afraid that Rachel would compete with Sienna for the same man.
Before Rachel could speak, Henry continued, “Next week there is a family banquet. It is the centennial celebration of the Hill family. Andrew will be present, you…”
“Grandpa.” Rachel immediately interrupted Henry and said with certainty, “I won’t consider Andrew and I don’t need Erica to matchmake for me.”
Henry’s tender expression turned stern as he placed down his chopsticks deliberately. His wrinkled face couldn’t hide his severe expression.
He sat upright and calmly said, “There is no one else here besides us. Tell grandpa your thoughts.”
“Grandpa, I don’t have other thoughts about this.” Rachel retracted her hands under the table nervously.
Henry smiled calmly but wasn’t upset, “Oh Rachel, some matters must be settled as soon as possible. You can’t always have your ways. You can only take what is yours and give up what isn’t.”
Rachel’s heart skipped a beat as soon as she heard this. Her heart jumped to her throat and she nervously grabbed the edge of her clothing.
Her breathing was labored and her palms started to sweat in fear.
Henry was so calm that she couldn’t figure out what he meant from his expression.
Henry could see Rachel’s nervousness and smiled gently, “Although grandpa is old and can’t move around anymore, I’m keeping an eye on the actions of you youngsters.”
“Grandpa… I…” Rachel was so nervous that she didn’t know what to say as she stammered.
Henry laughed and said as he looked at her with his alert and discerning eyes, “Grandpa knows that you had always been an intelligent child. You have never let grandpa worry about the things that you do. I’m sure this time will be the same and you won’t disappoint me. Right?”
Rache drooped down her head and she was so ashamed that she didn’t dare to look at him directly.
She didn’t expect Henry to be so terrifyingly calm.
Up to now, the only people who knew that she had been married to Ewan was Sienna and those in Ewan’s military complex.
She didn’t know how Henry had found out.
Regardless of how he found out, Henry’s view on this matter had been very obvious.
It was impossible for her and Ewan to be together. Even if he wasn’t her brother, her background was unworthy of Ewan.
Rachel slowly stood up and drooped her head as she said, “I understand, grandfather.”
“It’s good that you understand.” Henry smiled calmly with his deep and meaningful gaze.
“I’ll go back now and will come again soon to keep you company.”
“Okay, go ahead. You must remember what grandpa said. Somethings can’t be delayed.”
“I understand.”
After Rachel finished, she respectfully bowed at Henry and turned to leave.
She wasn’t sure how she dragged her heavy ladened feet back to the south garden. Her heart was restless, aching terribly and she felt breathless.
Now even grandpa knew and her mother was suspicious. They won’t be able to keep a lid on this matter for much longer.
She didn’t have a choice.
Rachel stumbled up the staircase and towards Ewan’s room. She didn’t think twice and knocked on Ewan’s door.
The door was opened.
Ewan was wearing a light grey casual outfit.
He was grand and magnificent and a sight to behold regardless of what he wore.
Rachel’s heart would race each time she saw him. Suddenly the words that she was about to say to him were stuck in her throat. She looked at him as tears welled up in her eyes.
With a hand in his pocket and a calm expression, he said nonchalantly, “What’s the matter?”
Rachel came to her senses and said directly, “Ewan, it appears that grandpa knows our situation.”
“I see,” Ewan answered calmly.
Rachel wrung her hands nervously and begged, “This can’t be delayed any further. I beg you. Now that we can still do something about this, let’s quickly resolve this matter.”
Ewan’s face darkened as she frowned. His expression also turned for the worse. He became sullen and remained silent as he turned and walked into the room.
Rachel followed closely into the room and closed the door. She said impatiently, “The consequences would be unimaginable if we don’t resolve this fast. Now that we can still salvage the situation…”
Ewan stood at the window with both his hands in his pockets and looked at the scenery outside. His aura was cold and oppressive as he emphasized, “I don’t see how bad the consequences can be.”
Rachel clenched her fists and bit her lower lip as she endured and said angrily, “Must you push me to my limits?”
Ewan couldn’t contain his anger any further and turned to yell at her, “You want a divorce? Over my dead body.”
As soon as he said that, his furious eyes locked gaze with Rachel’s watery eyes and at that moment, his heart ached painfully.
He felt like a dagger piercing straight into his heart each time she mentioned about divorce. The pain was unbearable but no matter how painful it was he would clench his teeth and persevere.
But when he saw her tears, his determination would waiver.
He couldn’t bear to hurt her and he couldn’t bear to see her cry.
Ewan’s fingers trembled and his wrists were pulsating with pain. He clenched his fists and steeled his heart as he said coldly, “Do not cry in front of me. Those cheap tears are useless to me. You won’t become desperate for being my wife. Fame and fortune are awaiting you along with unmatched authority. It is something women can’t even dream about attaining.”
Cheap tears?
Rachel was deeply hurt by what he said. She immediately wiped her tears. Damn it. She shouldn’t have allowed her tears to flow down. She shouldn’t have let him see her weakness.
With a deep breath, Rachel braced herself and raised her head proudly as she stopped shedding tears. She retorted coldly, “I don’t care about your fame and fortune, much less your authority. You are ruining me by doing this.”
“How am I ruining you?” Ewan suddenly grabbed her shoulders firmly as if he wanted to crush her bones. His cold eyes were moist and his blue veins on his neck were protruding in anger.
Rachel was like a puppet being controlled. Her sight was blurred by her tears and her shoulders were in such pain. This man’s body exuded a chill that was enveloping her.
He was as dangerous as an out-of-control beast.
She was terrified. Hesitating, she held back her tears and choked helplessly as she replied, “My father has disowned me because of Leah. If I don’t divorce you, I will lose my remaining relatives. My mother will not want me as her daughter. The Hill family will despise me and my friends will leave me. I will have absolutely nothing.”
Ewan looked at Rachel as she cried bitterly with her tears flowing to her chin. His heart bled in step with every tear that flowed.
