Rachel raised her head to look at him and shifted her gaze from his healthy wheat-colored skin to the light shadow of stubbles on his chin, which showed his strong and unyielding aura.
His Adam’s apple rolling up and down looked very sexy.
Looking up at his face, she had a sudden urge to touch his chin which was filled with weathered stubble.
She stared at him, a little stupefied.
Rachel was still waiting for his answer, she was really curious about who killed her aunt Eve.
Ewan knitted his eyebrows together. After some careful thinking he decided to reveal a little more to her, and said in a low voice, “It’s a family member. It’s not that we can’t catch them, it’s just that the time for it has not come.”
“Family member?” Rachel asked in horror. She propped herself up on his chest and looked at him in surprise.
Ewan slowly opened his eyes and squinted at Rachel with blurry eyes. He frowned as his tone became a little serious, “Don’t ask me anymore. Can’t you sleep?”
Rachel’s heart was already filled with curiosity. She shook her head and said, “I can’t sleep. Tell me who is that person and why did they kill Aunt Eve and blamed it on my mother? Who on earth wanted to…”
Before Rachel could finish, Ewan interrupted in a warning tone, “There’s still an hour before 7 o’clock, there’s still plenty of time. If you don’t want to sleep, we can do something else.”
Rachel looked puzzled, trying to figure out what he meant by this.
Suddenly, his hands reached into her shirt and touched her slender waist.
“No!” She was so frightened that she reflexively pushed his wrist away and begged in panic, “Ewan, Don’t! I won’t ask anymore. I’ll sleep. I’ll sleep right now.”
She pushed his wrist away and closed her eyes tightly, her eyebrows trembling in fear.
Ewan reluctantly slid his hand out and looked down at her expressions. Seeing her face flushed red and shy, a faint smile appeared on his lips.
No matter who she was thinking about, it was enough that she still blushed for a small action of his hands.

Still bewildered, Rachel fell asleep. When she woke up the sun was already up and strong in the sky.
She was still on the bed and the blankets on the ground were already cleared away. Ewan was nowhere in the room.
On the desk were her daily necessities, a set of sportswear clothes for her and a covered breakfast.
Rachel slowly got up from the bed and went to the desk. Looking at the stuff on it, she could feel the meticulous care, and her heart was then filled with sweet warmth.
She even hoped for her life to continue to be like this in the future.
Even if he treated her coldly, they were at least bound together by the law.
She wanted to be selfish once, impulsive once, crazy once.
Rachel went to the bathroom holding her clothes and toiletries. She took a shower, washed her hair, washed her dirty clothes and hung them to dry on the balcony.
After washing up, she sat in the living room and ate her breakfast.
It was already past 11 o’clock at noon.
Her mobile phone was still off and she was bored in the room so she went out to the balcony to enjoy the sun, waiting for Ewan to return.
The door of the conference hall opened.
Men in military uniforms came out one after another.
After them, several high-ranking military officials walked out side by side with Ewan.
While chatting, one of them teased, “I was shocked to hear that Ewan’s wife came. I thought you were single and I was planning to introduce my daughter to you.”
Ewan smiled faintly and chose not to respond.
Another official laughed and said, “I wanted to marry my daughter to him for a long time, but it’s a pity my daughter’s underage. It’s a pity to miss the chance.”
Ewan smiled lightly, “Thank you for your kind love.”
“I wonder what kind of amazing woman is your wife to have the ability to attract our picky Ewan’s gaze?”
Among the steady pacing high-ranking military officials, the long corridor was filled with several of their teasing and curious exclamations.
Rachel’s appearance flashed through Ewan’s mind and he did not hesitate to evaluate his wife in front of others, “She is elegant. She has her own way of thinking and a bit of a temper but she also has a very cute side.”
The immense love and contentment in Ewan’s voice made the men around him even more curious.
They continued to ask questions along the way.
Everyone reached the dining hall, but Ewan did not dine with them.
He took two meals and hurried back to the dormitory building.
His pace was as anxious as his heart, fearing that if he was too busy, she’d leave snubbed. She was not familiar with any other wives of the officials staying here and had no place to entertain herself, which worried him the most at that moment.
When he opened the door, Rachel was cleaning the furniture in the living room. She lifted her eyes to look at him walk in with lunch, and couldn’t help showing a faint smile.
“Ewan!”
Ewan looked at her blankly for two seconds, walked in and placed the food on the table. As he took off his coat he said softly, “Someone will come later to clean it, you don’t need to do all that.”
“I was bored anyway.” Rachel put down the rag in her hand and turned towards the bathroom to wash her hands.
When she came out again, Ewan walked towards her and handed her a new cellphone.
“Why?” Rachel frowned, looking at the latest model of cellphone he handed over.
“Use this one.”
“I have one but it’s out of power. Just buy me a charger.”
Ewan opened it and said lightly, “Don’t use your old SIM card for now. There is a new one in this phone. If you need, you can call me.”
Rachel took the cellphone, bowed her head and smiled bitterly. She muttered, her smile pitiful and sad, “If I call, will you pick up?”
In the past decade, she made countless phone calls and sent numerous messages but he always ignored her. She even had to travel far to international waters to find him for her mother’s case, almost getting herself killed.
Ewan gazed at her muttering with her drooping head and said gently, “Yes.”
This word felt ironic in that moment.
What made him suddenly change so that much? Was it just the marriage certificate?
Rachel turned on the new cellphone, dialed his number and pressed the call option.
She wanted to make up for the years of indifference and pain in that moment.
Even if he hated her, the two were still considered family. For ten years he completely ignored her calls and messages; he had caused her irreparable harm.
Rachel looked at the screen, listening to the faint calling tone coming from the speaker. She looked up at Ewan expectantly. Her eyes were moist, her cold tone somewhat angry, as she asked, “Didn’t you say you’d pick up?”
Ewan frowned slightly, took out his cellphone from his trouser pocket and handed it to Rachel.
The screen was black, and there was no sign of activity. Rachel looked at the number she was calling and then at the completely still black screen on Ewan’s cellphone.
Her heart exploded with a bang.
She slowly extended her hand holding Ewan’s phone towards him, astonished. Her voice was choking with endless heartbreak, “Ewan, why isn’t your phone ringing?”
“Did you dial the wrong number?” Ewan looked into her eyes in doubt and seemed to see tears. He lowered his head and asked softly, “What’s wrong?”
Rachel quickly bowed her head even lower and closed her eyes to hold back her tears. Her heard felt heavy, as if it was filled with stones, making it hard for her to breathe.
The number she dialed was not Ewan’s?
“Ewan, did you change your number?” Rachel dialed again.
