Chapter 12 Supper

Book:The Surging Of Love Published:2024-5-1

Erica said, “He’s just popular for the moment. He is just 20 years old and the lead actor in our new movie.”
“Do you have a picture of him? I’d like to see what kind of man sister likes.” Luke had stopped eating and playfully asked his wife. He was like a mother who was eager to see her prospective son-in-law.
Erica rolled her eyes at him and reluctantly took out her cell phone and said, “How nosey can you get?”
She then turned on the phone and showed Luke a picture.
Luke frowned and his expression took a sudden change as soon as he saw the picture. He adjusted his glasses and said in disbelief, “What kind of taste in men does Rachel have? How can she like this kind of man? He’s even skinnier than me. I bet he’ll be blown away by a gust of wind. Along with those girly facial features, he’ll easily be mistaken for a woman if he had long hair.”
Erica laughed coldly, “Ha, it’s in vogue now for women to like young and delicate men.”
Luke looked at Erica sternly and asked, “Then what about you?”
Erica said without hesitation, “Based on personality, I like you the most but if it’s regarding looks, Ewan’s type is the most manly…”
As she said this, Erica and Luke looked across the table only to see that the chair was empty and the bowl still had some soup left behind.
“Where’s Ewan?” Luke was puzzled.
Robert pointed upstairs, “He pulled a long face and left.”
Everyone looked puzzled at each other.
They didn’t have an answer.
Everyone ate and discussed the new popularity of young and delicate men.

This was the first time ever that Rachel experienced what it meant to chase after celebrities. They literally followed right behind him wherever he went. It took her some effort to get out of the taxi but was then dragged by those enthusiastic girls into David Webb’s live concert.
The ticket cost her half a month’s salary to listen to a night of wailing and howling and watch erratic dancing. She really couldn’t appreciate those crazy dancing and songs that resemble chanting.
What was unbelievable was the girls around her were totally smitten and engrossed. Her eardrums were almost ruptured by their screams.
It was very late when she returned home. She was tired and hungry. She dragged her fatigued body to the dark kitchen and opened the refrigerator.
There were all sorts of goodies in the refrigerator.
She took two slices of bread and tucked them into her mouth and then slammed shut the refrigerator.
As she turned, she walked into someone, “urgh?” she grunted in pain. Her heart raced in fear and she leaned back against the refrigerator and lifted her head to see what she had walked into.
It was a moonlit night outside and the exterior lights shone through the windows into the kitchen. However, standing in front of her was a dark shadow as the figure was backlit.
She couldn’t see the face but she could tell that the person was 1. 8m tall and there were only three persons in the family of that height. From the perfect body frame and the rock-solid muscles, that could only be one person.
That was also the person she feared the most, Ewan.
She was already extremely nervous when she saw him during the day and it was even more terrifying and dangerous at night.
Rachel’s legs were trembling from fear and her body was stiff and still. With the bread in her mouth, she looked at the dark figure with her eyes wide open. She felt like she was facing a wild cougar at night and if she were to move, her neck would be bitten by the cougar and she would become its meal.
The dark image looked at her for a while before a hand reached towards her.
Rachel was so scared that she closed her eyes and tucked in her neck as she trembled. She wanted to scream but she didn’t want to drop the bread in her mouth.
Her heart was struggling. What did he intend to do? What were his intentions? Dismember me? Or did he want to give her a good beating? Or did he find out that she was following Andrew and wanted to punish her?
The man’s hand brushed against her shoulder and she felt an electrifying shock. Before she could react, her stiffened body was pushed aside as the man coldly ordered.
“Move aside.”
Rachel was harshly pushed aside by the man, she stumbled a few steps and then slumped onto the dining table. Her abdomen hurt from the impact. It was obvious that he was unnecessarily harsh to her.
But she sighed a breath of relief.
He only wanted to open the refrigerator.
Rachel took the bread, steadied herself, and turned around. Her other hand was rubbing her tummy and she looked at Ewan who had opened the refrigerator.
The light from the refrigerator was very bright. Dressed casually, he was elegant and handsome. He was a little less stern and a little more casual but maintained that cold and lofty attitude.
“Ewan, why didn’t you turn on the light?” Rachel asked angrily.
“Why didn’t you turn on?” Ewan took something out and didn’t even look at her.
Rachel stopped rubbing her tummy. What could she expect from him even if he saw her actions? This man will never apologize. She doesn’t have to show that he had hurt her.
Though she was upset, she could only accept it and she went over to the switches and turned on the light.
The magnificent kitchen was immediately lit brightly.
Rachel knew better and turned to leave. She didn’t dare to agitate him. She couldn’t afford to.
With a tone of issuing an order, the man suddenly said, “Where’s the pot? Look for it.”
Rachel was startled. She turned and saw that Ewan had already closed the refrigerator and stood in front of the kitchen range with his back towards her.
There were only the two of them and Rachel knew that the man was asking her.
Except that, it was so obvious where the pot was, why did he ask her?
Rachel tucked the bread into her mouth again and walked over to take the pot over to him.
“Ladle.” The man continued to issue his orders coldly after taking over the pot.
Rachel turned to take the ladle.
“Knife, chopping board.”
“Oil.”
“Salt.”
“Water…”
“…”
Each time she wanted to leave he would order her back.
Rachel was so upset that she tossed the remaining half slice of bread into the bin and asked, “Why are you ordering me around when you have your own eyes and hands? How can you torment me like that? Say what you need all at once.”
Ewan totally disregarded what she had said. Her words were like a passing breeze. He calmly said, “Bowl.”
“You…”
Rachel clenched her teeth in anger, that was too much… She wouldn’t help him anymore even if he points a gun at her head. She can’t simply submit to his orders.
As the cover was lifted, the fragrance drifted towards her. Rachel had just made up her mind but her tummy started to growl uncontrollably.
She quickly took a bowl for him as she took a peek into the pot.
It was ordinary noodles in the pot but it looked enticing and smelled appetizing. There were her favorite fried eggs, at least seven to eight of them. The soup was boiled to a white broth with eggs, meat, vegetables, and instant noodles.
Her temper evaporated instantly and she started to salivate.
“Ewan, you cooked so much for night snack, can you finish them by yourself?” She was so hungry that she was physically weak. Her dignity took backstage.
“No.”
Ewan dished a bowl and took to a small table and sat down.
Before he ordered, Rachel immediately took a pair of chopsticks and politely presented them to him with both hands. Her tone was also tender and warm, “If you can’t finish them, can I have some?”
Ewan took over the chopsticks and didn’t bother with her. He remained cold and lofty as he ate the noodles.
She was already so gentle towards him and he didn’t even reciprocate.
She was extremely hurt.
Many in the Hill family cared about her while some disliked her. But only he was so heartless, cold, and distant towards her. She took a deep breath and felt disheartened but she managed to say, “If you don’t reply I’ll take it as you agreed.”
