Chapter 67 The first secret

Mr. Simpson smiled and glanced at his daughter, who ate quietly, thinking she was shy.
“I was also thinking that since it’s now summer vacation, why don’t we take advantage of this summer and get you guys engaged first!” Mr. Simpson nodded and said.
Twinkle raised her head suddenly and her lips paled slightly. “Get engaged? It’s too early.”
It seems that I can’t keep what happened between uncle and me a secret.
If my parents know, they would be sad and worried for sure.
If uncle’s legs can suddenly heal, he can stand in front of my parents to say, “Mr. and Mrs. Simpson, I want to marry Twinkle.”
How nice would it be if this was true?
Otherwise, my parents would definitely be heartbroken and ask whether I am insane wanting to get married with a disabled given that I am perfectly healthy.
“How is it early!” Mrs. Simpson smiled at her husband and agreed with him. “Dawn is like my own son. It would be great to have him as my son-in-law. Besides, I also heard that there are several families in City Q that went to the Meng’s family to propose marriage. Twinkle isn’t young either and I’m afraid there will be a lot of people proposing in the future. It’s better to settle down things for the children while everyone isn’t too busy and save a lot of trouble in the future!”
Mr. Simpson nodded with gratification. “Yes, I discussed with Mr. Meng yesterday that the engagement will happen next month. Afterward, they’ll be going back to school and get married once they graduate!”
Twinkle’s small hands squeezed her chopsticks tightly. Before, it was her lips that were pale, but now, it was her complexion that was pale!
Dawn glanced at Twinkle without her noticing and smiled slightly. “I think it’s better to wait for a while.”
After hearing what he said, Mr. Simpson and his wife were taken aback.
They both saw with their own eyes how anxious Dawn was in the past few days when the little girl wasn’t home.
“What’s the matter, Dawn?” Mr. Simpson asked gently.
Twinkle also looked at him in surprise with gratitude and nervousness.
Dawn glanced at her and sighed. “The engagement between Twinkle and the Lees’ has already attracted a lot of attention and everyone knows about it. It wouldn’t be very nice if she suddenly became engaged to another person, right?” He looked at Mr. Simpson and his wife and replied seriously.
Mrs. Simpson smiled. “What’s the matter? Henry was even asking about when you and Twinkle are getting married and said to not forget about him when we send out invitations.”
Twinkle’s heart tightened.
It was anger!
How could a father not care about his son’s feelings at all? She despised Henry!
“Mom, I don’t want to get engaged so early!”
Twinkle raised her face, placed down the tableware, and put her hands on her legs.
This has been her habit at home since she was a child. As long as there was something important she wanted to announce or discuss, she would sit like this and appear serious.
Mr. Simpson and his wife looked at her.
“I’m only 18 years old with many things ahead of me. No one knows what changes will happen in the future. Dawn is great and I know you guys like him. But how we are like now is the best. When he is on vacation, we can see each other. When he goes back to school, we’ll both be in school. It doesn’t matter whether we are engaged. What matters is that we don’t feel pressured and we go with the flow. If we bind each other, then in case I end up liking someone else or Dawn ends up liking someone else and we have to cancel the engagement, then that would definitely affect the relationship between the two families.” Twinkled explained.
“You, you guys…” Mrs. Simpson couldn’t understand.
Don’t Twinkle and Dawn like each other? Where did liking someone else come from?
Mr. Simpson looked at his daughter with confusion and did not speak.
“I grew up with Dawn, but love is a strange thing. It doesn’t mean being together for a long time will result in true love. Liking someone is one thing, getting married is one thing, and spending the rest of our lives together is one thing. What’s the point of being in a hurry to settle things down? If Dawn and I are meant to be together, then even if we don’t get engaged now, we’ll still be together in the future.” Twinkle continued.
Everyone was silent.
Twinkle grew tired from all that talking. She picked up the soup in front of her and summed things up. “So, it is unwise to get engaged now, I don’t approve it!”
After a bowl of soup, she licked her shiny little lips and looked to her side.
Mr. Simpson and his wife both had strange expressions on their faces. Dawn was sullen and looked down at his bowl.
The atmosphere was very depressing, completely different from the relaxed and lively mood when Mr. Simpson and his wife came back.
She quickly finished eating and put down the tableware. “I’m so tired. I’m going upstairs to take a bath and sleep! Good night in advance!”
Everyone in the room had different thoughts as they watched Twinkle pretend to be carefree while heading upstairs.
In her bedroom, Twinkle took a shower and threw herself onto her big bed.
After rolling around, she picked up the phone and looked at it.
She curled her lips out of annoyance – uncle didn’t send her a single message!
Turning around and lying on the bed, she dangled her two tender calves while typing a few words. “Have you had dinner?”
When she was about to click to send, she deleted it word by word. “Humph! You don’t talk to me, why should I talk to you?”
She jumped up and sat down on the bedside with her computer in her arms. She started to search for hospitals in this city that specialized in the treatment of spinal neurological mutations.
After studying two or three web pages, there was a sound of footsteps by the door.
She turned off the website. Just as she raised her head, she heard the sound of knocking on her door. “Twinkle.”
It is Mr. Simpson.
“Dad, come in!”
She closed the computer, put it aside, pulled up a blanket to cover it, and looked like she was about to sleep.
After Mr. Simpson came in, he glanced at her room with concern, smiled slightly, closed the room tightly behind him, and sat down on the windowsill opposite of her bed.
“Twinkle, tell the truth to your father. Do you not like Dawn anymore?”
His daughter, he knew the best.
Once she likes someone, she wasn’t the type to hide things unless there was some other reason.
Therefore, for her to refuse to be engaged to Dawn, the reason couldn’t be as simple as what she said at the dinner table.
There has never been a secret between Twinkle and her parents.
But she liking Patrick became the first secret.
She looked at him with guilt and replied. “Dad, I have been with Dawn since I was a child. There are some feelings between us, but not love.”
Mr. Simpson lowered his eyebrows lightly and smiled regretfully. “I understand. But, Twinkle, how did you discover that your feelings for Dawn are not love?”
Twinkle paused.
Mr. Simpson stared at her eyes and guided her softly. “Did someone else appear? So, you compared and came to a conclusion?”
