It was the same when it came to life. People always wanted to explore how long they could live, but no one could explore its true value.
The complicated work, the pressure of the family, and the need to consider the future for their loved ones often made people forget to enjoy life.
Jenny slowly lowered her body and lay on the vast beach.
The things that had perturbed her for the past few days suddenly didn’t matter at this moment.
Having lived for more than 20 years, she should always pursue more things. Whether it was her studies or ambitions, it was more important than the things that concerned her now.
Wendy also lay down together, looked at the blue sky, then turned her head, and asked, “Are you feeling better now?”
Jenny nodded.
Wendy and she hadn’t known each other for long, but the two always seemed to be able to figure out each other’s thoughts. As long as one of them gave a hint, the other one could gauge what she wanted to express.
It was nothing more than Harold, James, and what happened in the past. Jenny didn’t want to mention it. Wendy understood and didn’t ask her too much about it.
Even so, Jenny could still feel the fear while facing Harold.
It was already eight o’clock when they left the beach. The two had breakfast at a restaurant with local characteristics by the sea and then drove back to the hospital.
Back in the ward, Jenny lay on the bed to rest.
At this moment, the room was quiet. The caregiver simply cleaned up the room and then sat aside to rest.
Jenny felt sleepy and her eyelids began to droop, so she fell asleep within a few minutes.
At twelve o’clock, her alarm went off on time. Jenny rubbed her eyes, turned it off, and found that James was sitting next to her and looking at her.
“When did you come?” She sat up slowly and glanced at the man in front of her.
He chuckled, “Just arrived.”
Jenny got up, smoothed her hair, and adjusted her clothes. Then she lifted the quilt, got out of bed, and picked up the food she had brought on the road. “Here is breakfast. I bought it earlier.”
James reached out to take it and glanced at the cold food inside, “You went out in the morning?”
“Yeah, I know you don’t want me to go out. But Wendy came to me and took me to the beach… But you can rest assured, I was very careful and didn’t touch the wound.”
James paused as if he could see the meaning of her words and smiled lightly, “Don’t be so nervous. It’s good for you to go out and relax. Don’t bore yourself.”
“I know!” Jenny replied casually, but she still felt a little guilty, so she changed the subject, “Why did you come to see me so early today?”
“I came here to take care of you. And it’s not early now.”
Jenny realized that this question was indeed a bit silly, touching her face with embarrassment.
…
James looked at her and said, “I come here today to tell you something more important.”
“What’s the matter?”
“I want to transfer you to another hospital for treatment.”
Jenny was startled as she heard that, “Why? I’m not ready yet.”
“Don’t you want to go?” Unexpectedly, she refused so simply. The look of puzzlement flashed across James’s face.
Harold always appeared by her side and might coerce her to do things at any time. Did she still want to live here?
Jenny was a little embarrassed, “Because I was hospitalized and missed a lot of classes, I just made an appointment with the teacher to make up some lessons in the ward. I can’t stand her up for no reason.”
At this time the teacher might be on the way. Even if Jenny really needed to discharge from the hospital, she would have to wait for the course to be completed, otherwise, she would feel sorry for the teacher.
“Then you don’t want to be discharged?” James asked.
Although the appointment with the teacher was important, she had special circumstances after all. Therefore, it should be fine if they talked to the teacher.
In fact, he didn’t need to ask this question at all. Jenny wanted to leave here every day, but she was a person who always kept her promise and couldn’t ruin others’ schedules because of her.
After thinking for a while, she said, “Yes, I want to leave, but I have to wait until the course is finished.”
As James was about to continue to persuade her, Jenny’s phone suddenly rang. She took her phone and found that it was the teacher.
She put a finger on her lips, motioning for James not to speak. Then she politely said, “Hello… yes… now you can. Yes. Just come in!”
At the end of the conversation, Jenny told her the ward number and then hung up.
Jenny walked to the bathroom door and looked in the mirror. As she found that her body and complexion were good, she nodded in satisfaction and sat back on the sofa to wait.
After a short while, a familiar figure appeared in front of the ward. Jenny greeted her enthusiastically.
It wasn’t the teacher who taught them in school this time. But Jenny had listened to her open class when she just started the semester. She was a nice and competent teacher. Jenny didn’t expect that Harold could get this teacher to help her.
The teacher’s name was Selena, a middle-aged woman with long golden curly hair. She was wearing glasses. After seeing Jenny, she smiled gently, “I heard that you were injured before. Are you okay? Do you feel better now?”
“The wound has almost recovered, but I still need to be observed in the hospital.”
“You worked so hard even after you’re injured. You’re really a hardworking girl.”
Jenny flushed, feeling a little embarrassed to be praised like this.
After a brief chat, they started to having the lesson.
Since the equipment used in the course could not be moved to the hospital, Jenny had to learn the theory first during the remedial courses. Jenny hadn’t attended the course for a long time, so she was energetic as she was able to study again.
James looked at her from the side, with a slight smile on his handsome face.
He had been accustomed to watching her quietly for so many years. When she was a child, Jenny was a very obedient and timid student in the class. She didn’t dare to raise her hand even if she knew the answer.
James was quite naughty compare to her. Every time he saw her being restless in class, he would proactively say to the teacher, “Jenny knows the answer!”
In the beginning, Jenny would always ask him not to do that after class. She didn’t want to live in the strange eyes of classmates.
James shook his head firmly every time, “I’m helping you.”
As time went by, she became more and more active and optimistic with more classmates around her. James could only follow behind her and acted as her guardian angel.
In a blink of an eye, so many years had passed. He was still by her side.
Jenny listened to the lesson very attentively, not paying attention to his gaze at all. She was concentrating on the teacher, using a pen to write down the important points. She also occasionally asked questions and put down the important answers.
Time passed quickly. When it was time for lunch, James stood up and went out to help them buy some food. When he came back, he found that the class hadn’t finished yet. He glanced at the time again. It was already afternoon.
He didn’t want to disturb them, so he had to put the lunch aside and waited for them to finish.
At half past two, the lesson finally ended.
