Harold was more than satisfied about the scene just now, and how Jenny handled it so well, but he was also worried something might happen to her. Every time she wasn’t near him, he would worry about her. He had followed her to the bathroom.
Harold was watching that little girl standing in front of the mirror, crying her eyes out, he couldn’t help but to go to her and take her into his arms.
When Jenny felt his hug, she cried even harder and louder, trying to get away from him, but Harold held her only closer to his chest. The strong heartbeat under his shirt beating in her ears.
Why would you do this to me? Isn’t it enough that I chose you? You are the person who said that I should fall in love with you only if I wanted to, now you have used my own mother against me! Are you still the man I liked? Or did I just see your true colors?
Looking at her tears, Harold’s heart skipped a beat. Why do you give me no choice but to use tricks on you to keep you with me? I don’t want this either, but I want you to see that it’s all just for you!
They loved each other, but they could not stop torturing each other either.
When the party was over, there was drizzle falling off the sky. Harold put his jacket around Jenny and wanted to take her home.
“Can I go and see Mom?” Jenny didn’t want to be with Harold for even one more second, he scared her.
“No, it’s already late.”
“But I can just sleep there.”
Harold ignored her and carried her to the car. The more you wanna get away from me, the closer I am going to keep you.
Jenny turned her head and looked out of the window, watching the rain fall on it. On the prosperous streets, neon lights were flashing, as if the lights were connected with the night. The silence mixed with her heartache. She opened the window and let the rain drizzle on her face, which felt like little needles on it. Some people cannot take to get hurt once again.
When the car stopped in front of the house, Jenny immediately got off, ran into the house, and locked her room door. She didn’t want to see him. Anything about him would only hurt her even more, as if she was in debts with him in their previous life and she needed to give it all back now.
Ever since she agreed to Torah and tried to get close to Harold, every detail in her life had his existence, the kidnapping, the blackmailing, all the misunderstandings. Anything bad happening in her life was all because of him. Jenny wanted to run away, away to a place where no one knew her, but now she was locked here.
No, she cannot just give in like this. Jenny thought about leaving in the middle of the night. It was already 2 a. m. She thought everyone was sleeping, and she tried to get to the front door, she was bare foot, her shoes in the left hand, with the right hand covering mouth and nose hoping she won’t breath too loud. Slowly she moved towards the door, her freedom was so close.
“Where are you going so late?” The voice almost scared Jenny to death, she even dropped her shoes on the floor.
Harold thought that Jenny looked like a clown, he couldn’t help but laugh about her, but quickly gained his serious face back again.
“You scared me! I… I just want to go to the bathroom, do you really need to follow me for that?”
“You look like this when you go to the bathroom? Don’t you have one in your room?”
“They all had a tiring day, I didn’t want to wake anyone. The toilet in mine is clogged.” Jenny was afraid he would catch her lying, so she went back upstairs again, closing the door behind her and leaned on it. She laid her hand on her chest, her heart pounding under it. Almost. She was almost out. Shit! How did he know she would try to get out? Was he sleepwalking? Thinking of that, she suddenly had to giggle. Then she remembered that she had mentioned the clogged toilet.
She immediately tried to look for something to clog it. Toothbrush, soap, anything she could get her hands on landed in the toilet. This should do the job.
Of course Harold knew what she was up to. Ever since the kidnapping happened, he had to know her whereabouts any minute. He even put an alarm on her door, as soon as Jenny would leave the room, he would know, no matter day or night. He just didn’t think that tonight it would actually ring. He followed her to see what she wanted to do. She was so clumsy that he had to try hard to hide his smile to himself many times. But remembering that she wanted to run away brought back his cold face again.
The next day Jenny got up as soon as the sun rise, she was up all night thinking about how she could get out of there.
“Melli, your dress looks so gorgeous today.”
“Miss, I wear the same dress everyday.”
“Oh, really? Maybe it just looks even better today. Can I also have one of those?”
“But Miss, this is for the housekeepers to wear, isn’t it inappropriate…”
Jenny quickly took her into a chamber of the house. Melli thought Jenny was being a little weird today, but she was the Lady of the house, so she needed to respect her. Melli found a gown for her, and Jenny ran happily with it upstairs.
The next time she would try to get out, she would dress as one of the housekeepers. But she was shaped like a model, even if she was in a crowd of housekeepers, she would stand out.
Jenny lowered her head so far that it was almost in the gown itself. She walked down the stairs trying to cover up herself. But the housekeepers immediately knew it was Jenny and were just about to greet her, when Harold asked them not to.
Jenny walked towards the backdoor, with the head lowered staring at the floor, and bumped into the couch.
“Ah…” Jenny rubbed her knees, when a dark shadow moved upon her. Harold again.
“What are you doing? Trying to seduce me?” When she heard Harold’s question, Jenny blushed, and ran back into her room.
In the following days, Jenny tried all the tricks she could only think of, trying to escape Harold’s fingers, but every time she would somehow get caught.
There was only one person who could help her get out. James.
But there was a big misunderstanding between them, how could she tell him about what happened? She used all her money to bribe one of the housekeepers to hand him a letter from her.
“James, when you are reading this note, please believe everything I am telling you now. Only then our misunderstanding can be cleared. That day in the hospital I was kidnapped, but it was triggered by someone else. Harold came to save me, but for that he is holding me in his house now. The night of the party, I had no other choice but to say those things… I really want to get out of here…”
Holding the letter in his hands, James felt countless thoughts and emotions flushing through him.
