At the dining table, Nancy bit onto her fork while looking at the salad in silence.
Zack sat beside her and her parents were fighting each other to fill up Zack’s plate. The plate in front of Zack became increasingly full.
“Zack, come, eat, eat. Treat it like your own home. Don’t be shy.” Mom pointed to his plate and said.
Zack smiled and nodded, “Okay, okay. Sir, Madam, let’s eat. There’s so much on my plate.”
Nancy glared at Mom and Dad. Once dad noticed her glare, he dished some salad onto her plate.
“Now that my baby daughter has a boyfriend, she will soon forget her father. Eat your vegetables.”
Dad can sure hold a grudge. All she did was to shout at him. Does she deserve his sarcasm?
“Come on, dad, don’t be like that. I thought that you wanted to hit him. How can you take offense to that?”
Nancy placed her fork down as she rebuts her dad.
“Your dad was joking with you. You and your dad are a rare pair, you’re embarrassing yourselves in front of Zack.” Mom was trying to calm the atmosphere.
“It’s okay, Madam, I’m used to it.” Zack joked as he transferred a piece of meat from his plate to hers.
“That’s good, that’s good. Since young, our Nancy likes to speak her mind. She’s spoilt by her dad. Can I ask when did you both start being a couple?”
Mom very casually changed the subject.
“Today.”
“What? Today?” Mom and dad said in unison.
“Yes, what’s the matter? Dad, mom, need you be so surprised? Looks like you’ve seen a ghost.” Nancy asked defiantly.
How time has changed. During their time, when someone brings his or her significant person home to meet the parents, it is usually to discuss marriage. That’s why they were expecting…
After dinner, mom and dad insisted that Nancy walks Zack to his car.
As they exited the lift, Zack stopped at the door, looked at Nancy, and said, “Go on home. I’ll pick you up tomorrow. You don’t have to buy breakfast for me. Sleep in a little.”
Nancy pursed her lips and nodded. “Drive safely, text me when you’ve arrived.”
Zack stroked her head, “Emm, Okay. Rest early, call me if you have trouble sleeping.”
He gently kissed her forehead and left. Nancy picked up her cell phone and called Mandy.
“Mandy! I’m in love! Zack is officially my boyfriend!”
The next morning, as Nancy stepped out of her apartment, she saw that Zack was already waiting for her. She ran happily towards him.
Zack took her handbag and looked at her affectionately, “Good morning, sweetheart.”
Sweetheart? He called me sweetheart! Nancy couldn’t believe her ears. “What did you call me?”
“Sweetheart, why? Can’t I call you that? Since you liked me calling you babe in the game. If you don’t like me calling you this, I won’t.” Zack answered.
How could she not like it? The way he said it almost melt her heart, she quickly said, “I love it, why wouldn’t I? So how should I call you?”
Nancy spun around and stared into his eyes. “Can I call you Prof Zack? It fits your intelligence, abilities and status.”
Zack opened the car door and looked at the joyful Nancy, “Isn’t calling me Hubby even more befitting of my status? Girl, what do you think?”
