Mandy’s words woke the dreaming Nancy. Yeah, Zack was truthful about his true identity right from the start. So, she was the one who made too much a deal out of it.
So, why her reaction was so drastic? When she thought about how she treated Zack in the game, she realized that she was the cause of her own meltdown and cannot put the blame on Zack. It was now obvious to her that she was in the wrong.
Finally, she calmed down, took a napkin, cleared her nose, and said while sniffing, “But, they all went to the meeting and I’m the only one not involved.”
Mandy wasn’t aware of Hale’s intentions. She patted Nancy’s back with certainty, “Don’t worry, even if you’re fired from Sky Creations, I wouldn’t let you be unemployed. I’m rich, I’ll take care of you!”
Nancy was so touched by what she said, still sobbing as she wiped her tears.
“Okay, enough, stop crying. You look so ugly. He’s nothing but a guy and there’s plenty of them around.” Mandy helped to wipe her tears.
“So, if I’m fired, are you willing to leave Hale and come away with me?” As soon as Mandy heard her mentioning Hale, she laughed, what a silly girl.
“This… this… we’ll see.” Mandy slipped away immediately.
On seeing this, Nancy rolled her eyes, “Hale in eyes, friends off mind.”
But on hearing Mandy’s reasoning, Nancy came to her senses.
The co-workers who had been summoned to the conference room sat in silence waiting for Hale to speak and looked at each other wondering what’s he waiting for.
Hale was waiting for an update from Mandy and suddenly received a text.
“Nancy’s fine. Don’t forget that you agree to treat me to a month’s dinner!”
With a loud clap, Hale startled everyone who was starting to fall asleep. “Okay, thanks for coming to this meeting. You can go now. Work hard!”
Nancy’s phone vibrated. Zack messaged, “Did you have enough for lunch?”
After Hale informed Zack of the “Good news”, Zack tried to compose a few messages before sending this simple off-topic text to Nancy.
Nancy looked at her cell phone and didn’t know how to reply. Is she going to pretend that the incident didn’t happen?
But a moment later, another text came.
“Head to the basement car park after work. I’ll send you home.”
Nancy didn’t know what to do. How is she able to accept him sending her home? Although she didn’t know why she was being so stubborn, she felt very unsettled. That’s why today she would not go down to the basement car park. No matter what happened, she didn’t have the courage to face him and wanted to slip away after work.
After hesitating for a moment, Nancy decided not to return his texts. She tossed the cell phone into her bag and with a deep breath counseled herself, “Nancy, you are a professional. How can you let emotions get the better of you? You can’t live on love alone!”
It seemed that she may lose her job as well. She wasn’t part of the meeting and after the meeting, her co-workers all seem to be sullen and seemed troubled. She meekly asked, “Supervisor, what was mentioned at the meeting?”
Supervisor Tailor upset that she missed mid-day siesta, replied angrily, “Nothing, nothing was said!”
Nancy’s heart sank. On seeing the supervisor so moody and upset, she was certain that she’s going to be fired.
