After that exchange, the tense atmosphere eased. Thereafter, Nancy relaxed and continued to eat. Zack was pleased to see that Nancy was enjoying her meal.
“Zack, do I have to call you boss? Can I ask which department are you in?” Nancy asked.
Zack didn’t raise his head, “You can call me Zack. I’m not the boss, I’m a nobody in the technical department.”
Nancy was naturally curious, “How can that be? You interviewed me together with Hale. Why would a technician be involved in recruitment?”
Zack almost couldn’t contain his laughter. He initially thought that she was a simple girl but he didn’t expect her to be so sharp. She certainly isn’t someone that you can simply lie to.
“Hale Brown is my brother,” Zack said but that’s stating the obvious. But then again, he may have a point. Looking at the dishes before her, she thought, this is their family business. Sure, they can’t fool around but they certainly can perform whatever role they want in the company.
Reincarnation is an art. He is not only smart but also born into a rich family while she has to deal with chopping meat for a living. Life is so unfair.
Nancy looked down at her tummy. She felt as though her skirt was about the burst open at any moment.
She looked at the mess on the table, scratched her head shyly, and asked, “Shall I wash the dishes?”
Zack stood up and gently wiped his mouth, “Not necessary, someone will clean up afterward.”
Nancy nodded. Looks like the life of the rich is just like on television. Her poverty has limited her imagination.
“It’s already half-past one, looks like we need to go back to work.” Zack reminded Nancy as he looked at his watch.
Nancy took out her cell phone. 13:45! Her heart sank! Her supervisor looked very strict and was not friendly towards her the entire morning.
“Zack, thanks for lunch. I’ll take my leave.” Nancy dashed out with her cell phone in hand and ran down the stairs. Zack, hearing the commotion of the footsteps running down, smiled, “What a silly girl.”
As expected, as Nancy ran back to the office, Supervisor Tailor was already at her cubicle waiting.
A cold sweat beaded across her temple. Brace up, Nancy dashed into her seat. She said apologetically, “I’m so sorry, I was held up during lunch.”
Expressionless, Supervisor Tailor pushed the gold-trimmed spectacles on the bridge of her nose, “In this company, we need to always be punctual and thorough in our work. I hope that everyone will abide by this. The details will determine your success or failure.”
Nancy turned on her computer in silence and thought, this is trivial, why is she making a big fuss over it? Her days ahead are going to be tough, oh my god.
Superiors do not like being ignored. Noticing that Nancy didn’t reply, she continued, “Your success or failure is determined by your attention to details, am I right?”
Nancy glanced over and noticing Tailor’s glare, quickly replied, “Certainly, you’re right.”
Finally, the glare of Tailor’s eyes shifted from Nancy but she continued to nag. “Young lady, you should depend on your own abilities to get by in life and not depend on connections. Don’t think that your connections will get you anywhere in life. If you don’t have real abilities, you can’t go far in this company.”
Nancy listened to Supervisor Tailor’s every word. Surely these were not meant for her. She doesn’t have any connections. Sure, she doesn’t have any real abilities yet but she certainly does not have any connections.
“You are right, Ms. Tailor!” Nancy said obediently. She didn’t take note of the supervisor’s expression. Is this person really that stupid or is she just putting up an act?
