Nancy was stunned. His actions melt her heart.
Zack gently placed the knife on the table and picked up the nicely cut ribs. He said with a gentle smile, “Thanks for the personally cut ribs. I’ll think of you when I enjoy them later. Goodbye.”
Right before her eyes, Zack turned and strode off. Her mouth opened but no words came out.
“What are you looking at? They’re already long gone!” Nancy’s mom said as she came to her side.
Nancy collected herself and looking at mom’s gleeful expression, asked, “Mom, how did you meet Mrs. Allen?” Mom smiled and said, “You meant the lady who I just had breakfast with?”
Nancy nodded curiously but mom wouldn’t give her a direct answer, “To think that she’s the mother of my daughter’s secret crush. What a twist of fate!”
Mom still didn’t give her the answer. Nancy pressed, “So how did you two meet?” She was wondering if they happened to be good friends. What if Zack and Nancy were betrothed to each other when they were babies. Wouldn’t that be destiny?
Mom took another bite and said, “Don’t you know who your mother is? I’m the leader during the dance sessions. She is one of the dancing members in our class and a pretty humble one!”
Nancy couldn’t believe her ears. So that’s the connection. Why are all the encounters with Zack so dramatic?
Nancy was determined to change Zack’s impression of her. This week she’ll wake up early, wear makeup, and dress appropriately. She had to salvage her image. But her efforts were in vain. Zack did not come to her supermarket. Nancy thought in disappointment, he must have lost interest in her. Initially, he still thinks that she’s cute but she threatened him with the knife.
Then she thought, come Monday she’ll be working at Sky Creations. Since Zack was one of those who interviewed her, then he must be working there too. Wouldn’t she be seeing him every day?
As she pondered, her hunched posture firmed up. But, so what if they see each other every day? She imagined the mesmerizing voice saying “Babe” into her ears. This week he didn’t even log in for the game. Once again, despair came over her.

Nancy stood at the foot of the Sky Creations building. She lifted her eyes in awe of the skyscraper. Nancy, you’re now a junior executive, you go girl!
Full of enthusiasm, she walked into the lobby but there was a crowd in front of her waiting for the lift. Wow, this was a new sight for Nancy. It’s still early, she thought. Nancy calmly took out her cell phone to browse. Half an hour went by and she only moved forward several feet. Someone said that one of the lifts has malfunctioned.
Nancy’s feet in her mid-heels are starting to ache. But this wasn’t important. She’s going to be late for work in 15 minutes!
Late on the first day at work? That’s bad for first impressions. But the company is on the 21st floor. Don’t tell me I have to walk up 21 flights of stairs? I may avoid being late but at the cost of my life?
Just as Nancy was panicking, she saw the opposite of her but above were the words, “Reserved for Senior Executives.”
What privilege?! The rich think that they can have whatever they want? But of course! The rich can do whatever they want!
This moment, a man with a familiar build walked into that lift. Though wearing grey casual office attire, he walks with an air of confidence and authority.
Nancy decided to once again use her charm. She rushed to the lift, stuck her hand to stop the already closing doors. Zack was obviously startled by the strength of this office lady. Shocked, he stared at her.
Nancy immediately turned on her charm, smiled, and said, “Zack, what a coincidence, can I take a ride in your lift?”
