Zack was equally surprised to see Nancy, and he was very excited.
Before Nancy could react, Mr. Xavier, who in the commotion saw Zack, immediately walk towards him, grabbed his hand, and said, “Hey, aren’t you the chap who sent my Nancy home last night? You came specially to buy some groceries?”
Nancy felt like it was the scene of a slow-moving accident unfolding right before her eyes. She can forget about courting her hunk. She didn’t expect Zack to reply to dad, “Sir, you have a good memory, I came with my mother to buy some vegetables.”
Mrs. Allen looked at Zack and wondered when did Zack become so courteous and thoughtful. She searched in the direction where Zack was looking and saw Nancy who was trying to hide her face behind the butcher’s knife. She thought to herself, is she who my son is fond of?
After all, Mrs. Allen was a well-socialized lady. She immediately composed herself and sat beside Nancy’s mother, “Mrs. Xavier, I didn’t expect that our children had already met, what a coincidence!”
Nancy’s mother was overjoyed, “Yes, what a coincidence! Your son even sent my daughter home. I was just wondering whose son he was to have such a good upbringing. Nancy! Hurry up and pack two pounds of the best ribs for the Madam here. We’re fated to meet!”
Nancy couldn’t hide anymore. All eyes were on her. What is there to hide from, she thought. Her image is already in tatters. There is nothing to worry about it anymore.
Nancy swiftly cut a few lengths of ribs. With a beautiful smile, she asked, “Madam, would you like the ribs in small or large pieces?”
Zack broke off from Mr. Xavier’s grip and walked towards Nancy, “Small pieces will do.”
Nancy began to feel her face burn as she blushed. She tried to look away from Zack as he continued, “Do be careful, don’t hurt yourself. Do you need my help?”
Zack’s assuring voice steadied her trembling hands.
Mr. Xavier rushed over, “Zack, go and have your breakfast. Don’t look down on my Nancy. She may be young but her knife skills surpass even me!”
Nancy’s hands started to tremble again. Clenching her teeth and said, “My dearest father, you should calm down and have your breakfast, please!”
Mr. Xavier promptly stepped back, realizing that he may have said too much. Zack couldn’t resist but laugh at Nancy’s adorable awkward look.
Nancy glared at Zack and demanded, “What’s so funny? Haven’t you seen a girl with a knife?”
Zack tried desperately to contain his laughter, “No, no, no. Not laughing at you. I just think that you’re so cute.”
“Cute? Which part of me is cute? Out with it!” Nancy waved the butcher’s knife in front of Zack’s face.
This moment, Zack’s left hand seized Nancy’s knife-wielding hand and his right hand took the butcher’s knife from her. He said solemnly, “Don’t wave the knife around, it’s dangerous, got it?”
