After Quentin left, the atmosphere in the villa was a little somber.
Kara felt pity for James as she sat with James. Unhappy, she ran upstairs and went back with a drawing board on her back.
“James, let’s find something interesting to draw outside.”
James glanced at her, knowing that she wanted him to go out to get some fresh air and feel better.
“Where do you want to go?”
Kara blinked. She just wanted to go out with him, and it could be anywhere.
“Let’s go to the suburbs and stop wherever we want.”
Kara pulled him up. Afraid that he would refuse, she gave him puppy dog eyes.
He stroked her head, shrugged, took her drawing board, and held her hand. They walked out.
James wanted to drive by himself, but Kara was worried about the injury on his arm, so she asked Mason to drive.
“James, sit by the window and bask in the sun,” Kara said and opened the window.
His face glowed in the sunlight, and he looked so charming at this moment. Holding her chin, Kara stared at him and swooned.
James turned around and looked at her with a straight face.
“Why should I bask in the sun?”
“I’ll warm you. You’ve been cold to everyone today. Maybe the sunlight will help!” Kara gave a mischievous smile and want to touch his face, but he took her hand.
“Sorry, did I scare you?”
James knew that she looked a little scary when he was cold with a straight face. She used to be scared of him so much that she did not dare to speak to him.
“I’m not scared. I just don’t want you to be happier.”
Kara liked to rub against him. She sat on his lap and looked at him seriously.
“James, although he is your father, he is not worthy of you torturing yourself. Forget about him. Look at me. I am so beautiful and cute. You should focus on me.”
She was acting coquettishly. James chuckled and touched her face.
“Why? You’re not different from others. One mouth and two eyes,” James said.
“No, no, I have a mouth that can produce sweet words and a pair of eyes full of affection. Look at me.”
Kara opened her eyes wide, her eyes twinkling at him.
James glanced at her funny expression and looked down. His gaze fell on her pink and moist lips. It looked soft and sweet.
James kissed her lips. Kara smiled with satisfaction.
Kara said, “Mr. James, I knew that you would be tempted, and then you could not help but desire me.”
“But we can’t do it today because we’re on an outing. You have to hold your horses.”
She talked in a sweet voice as if she was talking to a child.
But her trick worked. James was in a better mood now, thanks to her sweet voice and joke.
“What if I can’t hold my horses?”
Kara blushed. She looked at Mason who was driving and shook her head shyly.
“We’re in the car now. We can’t do it here.”
“So we can do it after we get off, right?” James asked.
James held her face with his hands and teased her with great interest.
“No, that’s not what I meant. James, you haven’t recovered, so you’re not in shape for that.” Kara hastened to explain, afraid that he would press down on her.
He touched her delicate collarbone and drooled over it.
When he had first glanced at her, her collarbone caught his attention, and he had a thought that he should not have.
Even though he had already savored it, every time he admired it, he wanted to take a nip, as if there was a sweet taste there.
“James, don’t mess around. We’re out to draw.”
Kara pushed his hand away and put on a straight face, blushing.
“What do you mean by ‘mess around’?” James said.
James lowered his head and sniffed her fair neck. He smelt milk.
“I mean … I mean you can’t do this,” Kara said.
“Do what?” James sneered and pointed at her forehead with a grimace. “How much fudge did you eat? You smell like milk.”
Kara pursed her lips with a guilty look.
She recently bought a different kind of fudge. The taste was so good that she couldn’t help but eat dozens of them. She didn’t expect the fudge to leave a smell on her body.
“Give me a kiss for every fudge you ate. Otherwise, you won’t get more fudges,” James said.
Kara did not hesitate to put her hands around his neck and kiss his thin lips.
Then she chuckled and said, “James, I kissed you. You can’t stop me from eating them.”
…
They chatted and laughed along the way, and James was in a much better mood.
Kara was happy that he felt better. She looked out of the window and saw unique scenery. She immediately asked Mason to stop the car.
“James, can you walk there with me?”
James got off the car, followed her finger, and saw a lotus pond.
It was autumn. The lotus flowers withered, and there were many lotus seedpods in the pond. Several men were standing on the shore holding tools. They seemed to be preparing to dig the lotus roots out.
James held her hand and walked to the pond. Just as he was about to ask where she was going to stop and draw, he noticed that there was a strange look in her eyes.
“Little fool, are you craving the lotus roots?”
Kara wrinkled her nose, her eyes fixed on the lotus in the pond.
The lotus seedpods were heavily laden with their seeds.
“James, do you think the lotus seeds here taste bitter?”
James knew she wanted to taste them.
He turned and said, “Mason, buy some lotus seeds from them.”
It was easy to tell that the pond had an owner and the owner planted the lotus, so others couldn’t just pluck the lotus seedpods.
A man with tanned skin heard James’ words and smiled as he plucked two lotus seedpods. The man spoke with a strong country accent, but they could understand it.
“You don’t need to pay me. This is cheap in the market. If you want to eat it, get some yourself.”
“Thank you,” Kara said.
Kara excitedly ran to the pond, wanting to pluck one herself, but it was beyond arm’s reach.
She anxiously ran back to James and pointed at a large lotus. “James, get me that one. I can’t reach it.”
James felt helpless and looked at Mason.
Mason nodded and borrowed a long stick from the man. There was a hook tied to the front of the stick. It was for cutting the lotus seedpods off.
Mason got four lotus seedpods. Kara looked at them happily. They were big and round.
She peeled off the green skin and tasted a seed. It tasted sweet and then a little bitter.
“The seeds must be very tasty. Mason, let’s bring some more back. Tonight, we can ask Libby to make dishes with them. They make my mouth water already.”
“Yes, Miss Kara.” Mason nodded.
There were a few blooming lotus flowers among the green and yellow lotus leaves. The cool breeze blew, mixed with the fragrance of lotus leaves.
It was rare to see such a beautiful scene. Kara closed her eyes and opened her arms to feel the breath of nature. She felt she was part of nature now.
James looked at Kara’s side face. Her relaxation set his mind at ease.
A sentimental poem popped into his head.
In his eyes, Kara was the most beautiful, unique, and fascinating scene.
He recited it in his heart, ‘Things change, but my love for you won’t.’
Staring at Kara, James felt that this was a moment of eternity.
It was quiet and beautiful. As she blinked, the light and shadow on her eyelashes moved. This took his breath away.
When she turned her head, their eyes met. He felt that she was his girl and they were meant for each other.
