Sebastian watched in amusement with his parents from the study window. None of them would have thought Lorelei and Jaylen were having a thing together. She had been acting a bit jumpy and quite happy for weeks but they just thought it was her usual mood swings.
“I think I have had just about enough. Can we go to our room now baby?” Julius said to his wife.
Hazel kept her face glued to the window pane. “Awwn aren’t they so cute to watch? I really should take a picture.” She said, bringing out her phone from her pocket.
“Hell no mom!” Sebastian protested as he snatched the phone from her. “Respect their privacy.”
Hazel snorted. “It’s not like where they are is exactly private.” She shrugged nonchalantly.
“Really baby?” Julius gave her a disapproving look.
“What? I am a mother and can’t help it. Just see how nice it is to watch. I mean…I have never seen Lorelei take interest in anyone. I should hold this memory as long as I can.” She protested.
“That’s enough mom. Dad can you go with her now, please.” Sebastian pleaded.
“Lead the way baby.” Julius said to her.
“You both are such a kill joy.” Hazel whined, leaving the study with Julius.
Sebastian stared out the window again with his face morphing into a frown. They were still kissing each other and it was beginning to irk him. He has no idea what the Damien brothers has in mind, but he wasn’t about to watch any of them mess with his only sister just to satisfy their ego. Although it had been a joyful moment for him when he discovered that Lorelei wasn’t exactly into Jayden.
As much as he might love his friends, he cherishes his sister more and would kill to protect her. Shutting the window, he walked with determined strides out of the study and he went down the stairs out to the porch.
His annoyance mounted when he heard Lorelei say something. “And you both really couldn’t keep your hands to yourselves.” Sebastian said from behind with one of his brows raised.
Jaylen and Lorelei frozen up immediately. They tore apart like they had been stricken with a rod.
With a hand on her chest, Lorelei leaned into the car. “Why would you do that Sebastian?”
With his eyes spitting fire Sebastian glared at her. “I should be asking what this is all about.”
Just as Jaylen attempted to answer, Lorelei spoke on his behalf. “Don’t start with your protective brother attitude. You don’t have to-”
Sebastian didn’t let her finish before holding his hand up. “You can go back inside.” He ordered.
“Seb-”
Lorelei tried to protest but Jaylen interrupted her “Don’t worry Lorelei. We would talk later.” He understood what was happening perfectly. He would have reacted the same way if he saw any man with Claire.
Lorelei looked disappointed as she stared at him. Jaylen nodded towards her to serve as an assurance. Lorelei nodded reluctantly before she dragged herself back into the house.
“I can explain” Jaylen stated.
Sebastian folded his arms on his chest as he also furrowed his brows. “I’m all ears.”
Jaylen couldn’t help the laughter that escaped his insides. Sebastian isn’t the type to get angry but when he does his angry face looked quite funny.
Sebastian looked offended. “What’s so funny?”
“Remember that one time you had flared up and ranted to Jayden and I about your sister getting distracted and ignoring you because of some boy she met in middle school? Your expression back then is the exact same face you are holding up right now.”
Sebastian thinned his lips. “I am really not laughing right now.”
“Come on man, the last thing I would do is play around with anyone’s emotions. I can’t seem to understand myself since I met Lorelei and she has been living rent free in my head. I really want to work things out with her. Please.”
Sebastian relaxed a bit as he watched Jaylen try hard to express himself. If there is one thing he could do well, it’s figuring out people’s true intentions through their words and expressions. He could tell right away that Jaylen meant no harm, coupled with the fact that his wolf wasn’t so guarded and he could sense the sincerity aura emitting from him.
“She means a whole lot to me Jaylen and she is completely fragile.” He said.
“I know.” Jaylen replied.
“Mom and dad might think it is cute but I am not totally comfortable with it.”
“I understand you perfectly.” Jaylen nodded as he looked everywhere but not into Sebastian’s eyes.
Sebastian tried hard to not smile. “I am not joking, Jaylen.”
Jaylen stared up at him with a boyish grin. “Me neither.”
“Why do I feel like nothing I say seems to get to you.”
Jaylen’s forehead creased. “That’s so not true, I am all ears.”
Sebastian stared at him suspiciously, tilting his head as he tried to figure out where Jaylen’s attention really was only to notice him staring behind him. Sebastian followed his gaze and his eyes trailed as he found his mother making gestures at Jaylen from the study window. Peeping next to her with a curious pair of eyes was his sister, trying hard to hide herself behind the curtain.
When Hazel realized Sebastian had caught them, she pulled the curtains in a hurry. There was no way he wouldn’t have noticed. Turning his head back, Sebastian glared at Jaylen.
Jaylen raised his hands up in surrender. “Come on, you can’t blame me for this.”
Sebastian let loose his hard expression. “It is obvious you already stole their hearts. When those two are together they can make a mountain move.”
Jaylen exhaled. “I almost thought you were about to punch me in the face.”
“Nah, I would rather poison you instead.” Sebastian joked.
Jaylen caught a hang of what he meant and laughed along with him.
“Would you like to come in?” Sebastian asked.
“No. I just wanted to drop by real quick and see Lorelei. I would just head back home now. I have some work to attend to.”
“Alright then. Is Jayden back yet?” Sebastian asked.
Jayden had been away for a few days to foresee his father’s company outside of the pack that needed to be attended to. Since Carl had been in and out of good health for a while, Jayden had been in charge of everything.
“I would only know if I get to see him. I didn’t realize he had travelled until a day ago.” Jaylen replied.
Sebastian scratched the back of his neck. “I am really sorry. I almost forgot you both aren’t actually that close.”
“It’s all good. I will take my leave now. Say me hi to your mom and dad.”
“They definitely don’t need me to deliver your message.” Sebastian noted when he felt their eyes drilling extra holes up at the back of his head.
Jaylen shook his head as he laughed. He waved at Lorelei at the window before getting into the car and he drove out of the compound.
